Clinton's mom stars in new ad

Bill Clinton likes to tell voters that he'd be backing Hillary for president even if she wasn't his wife.

Now in a new TV ad starting to air today in Iowa, Dorothy Rodham says she would be supporting Hillary even if she wasn't her daughter.

"What I would like people to know about Hillary is what a good person she is," Rodham says in the 30-second spot. "She never was envious of anybody -- she was helpful. And she's continued that with her adult life with helping other women. She has empathy for other people’s unfortunate circumstances. I've always admired that because it isn't always true of people."

The ad features a family snapshot showing Hillary as a baby, points out that Rodham lives with Clinton, and shows Rodham on the campaign trail with her and former first daughter Chelsea. The plug from Rodham could help humanize Clinton, whose critics call her cold and calculating.

  1. Oh Brother! Who thought that dragging out the old lady would in ANY way make Hilda look warmer? Are you kidding? Jeffrey Dahmer's Mom said he was a good boy.

  1. You know, Barack Obama's grandmother is alive in Honolulu. Since she (and her husband, who did a lot of the raising of young Obama) look like most of the pensioners in Iowa, I often thought it would be useful for his campaign to show their faces more often. But in keeping with the good taste of the campaign he has run, he has kept her out of it. She tells the press in Honolulu, "I am not well" and they leave her alone, respecting her privacy. My mother is old and not well, too. I am certain if I were campaigning, even for Life-Long President of the Universe, I would not be dragging my poor mother through the ice storms and gas station bathrooms. I don't mean to sound critical -- it's just my thought. Maybe the Rodham women are tougher and more adventurous.

  1. Yeah, even if my opponent had alleged that I'd been hatched from an Easter Egg, I think I'd leave my old mom alone, and not subject her to this kind of stress.
