Confident Romney says he's running positive campaign

Polls show him in a tight fight with Mike Huckabee in Iowa, but Mitt Romney is apparently feeling confident. Today, he boldly predicted a victory in Thursday's caucuses.

"I can tell you I feel real good about the sense I'm getting from the people here in Iowa, and you know I think I'm going to win," Romney told reporters in Bellevue. "I'm not going to forecast that necessarily, but I think I'm going to win. And that will obviously be enormously powerful for my campaign."

Romney has typically been reluctant to talk about victory in Iowa, cognizant that beating expectations is crucial to building a sense of momentum. Recently, he has quoted Yogi Berra saying, "I don't like forecasting, particularly if the future's involved."

Romney, responding to Huckabee's charges that he is being dishonest in TV ads attacking the former Arkansas governor's record, insisted he is not running a negative campaign or casting "personal aspersions" at his rival.

"He's a good man. I like him," Romney told reporters. "You know, I think any time any politician on either side of the aisle starts making personal attacks, something must have gone wrong. And so I'm running a positive campaign. Of course I'm gonna talk about differences on issues. How in the world could you have a campaign where you didn't talk about the differences between different candidates? People wouldn't know where they lined up.

"But I'm not making personal attacks," Romney continued. "I'm not calling people names or disparaging their character. I think when that happens, America loses in that process."

  1. Huckabee is a cry-baby. Huckabee DID hike taxes in Arkansas. In fact, he was worse on taxes and spending than Bill Clinton when he was Governor. Huckabee DID push for tax-payer subsidized in-state tuition and scholarships for illegal immigrants. Huckabee's repsonse? Romney's being dishonest! How is he being dishonest. Huckabee has yet to challenge the specifics of Romney's ad b/c he CAN'T respond to the specifics. Instead, aided and abetted by the liberal media (who are praying that he is the Republican nominee), he dodges his record.

  1. Huckabee has A LOT to be critical of him and his record. Immigration, taxes, foreign affairs, etc. If someone points out HIS OWN record, Huckabee cries about it and says it's negative. If pointing out his own record reflects negatively on Huckabee, well, there you have it...

  1. People forget that voters who are bought don't turn out to vote and voters who believe do. This is why polls sometimes tell false tales.

Everytime a caucus of voters has had an option of voting online or in person, Mike Huckabee has won among those voting in person because his supporters show up--and pay their own way to get there.

I support Mike Huckabee, and I'll be there to cast my vote and make a difference.

  1. Those of you who think Romney's attack-ads against Huckabee and McCain are being entirely truthful need to do a little research. They are blatently exaggerating the facts to make Mitt look better. But then dishonest and Mitt Romney seem to go together pretty well and often.

  1. I think Huckabee's honesty and ability to lead need to be questioned. What has Huckabee DONE in his political or professional career that really stands out? I think Mitt Romney is light years ahead of Huckabee as far as leadership and experience go. Mitt Romney has my vote for President of the United States of America! Go Mitt!! Go Iowa!!

  1. I think Huckabee's honesty and ability to lead needs to be questioned. He takes money from stem cell and gun control groups for speeches. He doesn't understand foreign affairs, and so on. I think Mitt Romney is light years ahead of Huckabee in experience and leadership. We need to vote for the candidate who can do the job. Mitt Romney has my vote for President of the United States of America. Go Mitt!

  1. I believe that Mitt Romney has uncovered the true Huckabee. Huckabee received from the Cato Institute, a conservative think tank, a D and an F for his tenureship as governor. I would like the Huckster explain his horrible grade.

If you like Huckabee you can have him!!!

    Go Mitt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Mitt Romney's ads have pointed out the differences between his record & views and those of the other candidates. Yes, sometimes they do slant things a little bit in his favor, but, every other candidate has done the same thing. I have not heard or read any PERSONAL attacks on anyone. Huckabee can not claim the same thing, he attacks someone and then give a "half-hearted apology". That doesn't sound like any kind of a Christian I want to know. When Huckabee first started getting a lot of national attention, I thought he might be "my man". After studing his record as governor of Arkansas, listing to the debates & news and reading everything I could find on all of the candidates, I have changed my mind. I choose Romney. I would vote for a Democrat before I would vote for Huckabee.
