Huckabee goes warm and fuzzy in new ad

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor December 17, 2007 04:05 PM

His foes are running hard-hitting TV ads, but Mike Huckabee is going against the grain.

In a new spot, Huckabee banks on the likability factor that has helped fuel his surge in the Republican presidential race, offering wishes for a "magnificent Christmas."

Wearing a red holiday sweater and sitting in front of a twinkling Christmas tree as holiday music plays, the former Arkansas governor tells viewers they're probably tired of political ads, so he just wants to remind them of what's important during the holiday: friends, family, and "the birth of Christ."

The latter serves as a reminder to evangelical voters whose support the ordained Baptist preacher is seeking.

  1. Anyone interested in what Huckabee is really like face to face should try this funny (but it actually happened) column:

Actually the latter serves as a reminder to EVERYONE what the holiday is really all about. We live in such a sad society that people can't even wish others Merry Christmas without being hen-pecked. I thought the ad was refreshing, warm and I received it with the intent which I believe it was given. Not to get my vote, but one fellow American wishing another fellow American: Merry Christmas.

  1. Criticize, complain, groan. Moan when he's kind and you'd moan if he was mean and harsh. No pleasing some of you.

If you don't like the Christmas holiday - which of course IS the celebration of SOMEONE'S Birthday - then don't come to His party and go to work!!! or are you one of those that just like to have it all your way?

  1. HaHa I see the Club For Greed (Club For Growth) has posted their propaganda website taxhikemike here. These guys are really pathetic, they spend $80,000 to produce an ad to discredit Governor Huckabee and run it in Iowa and it has no effect. So now the Club For Greeders have resorted to posting comments on local newspaper boards..Sad Guys really sad..

Great ad by Governor Huckabee, this guy has my vote.....

  1. A refreshing ad from a refreshing candidate! Only democrats could believe that Christmas is not about Christ, that evolution is not a faith based theory or that our country was not founded upon Biblical Christianity. To help you think through a couple of those topics, try:

If we are to consider ourselves truly intelligent and scientific, we must be willing to consider all history and truth, know the difference between theory and science and be able to back up our faith with facts.

    God bless and Merry Christmas!

  1. Being Jewish, I should probably be offended by this ad. But really, I'm glad not to be included in the group to which this dim-witted and ignorant man is pandering. If Gov. Huckabee is elected president we will be the laughingstock of the world.

  1. Huckabee's ad is another attempt to distract voters from the issues and his record. A thousand "merry christmases" is not going to change the fact that you look like Gomer Pyle, are weak on crime, raised taxes, stole tax payer money to furnish your house, flip flopped on immigration, and stonewalled the prosecution of your son for hanging a dog at Boy Scout camp.

If Huckabee is the nominee, I am moving to Brazil.

  1. To Don,
Your comment, "Only democrats could believe that Christmas is not about Christ..." is truly ignorant. I'm sick of Republicans saying they are the only ones who believe in God and have morals and ethics. Have you even heard of Scooter Libby and Dick Cheney? Ever noticed the Bush family is getting filthy rich over the crazy oil prices while millions of regular folks struggle to fill their gas tanks and heat their homes?

  1. To Mark: Moving to Brazil if Huck is nominated? In that happy event, all I would say to you is ... Write if you get work!

  1. Finally someone who will stand up for GOD in this country and not scared to show it. My view is that this country started having trouble when it turned it's back on GOD. This is why I will vote for MIKE HUCABEE he is honest, faithful, ran a state goverment for over 10 years, don't flip flop like some, does not change the writings of the bible to fit his life style. So unless you are a millionaire already you should vote for MIKE HUCKABEE he knows where the poor and middles class is. Vote for someone who drives there self around and mows there own yard and don't have there own airplane . Won't it be nice to have a President who knows how it feels when you have to decide to either let some bills go for the month just so you can afford to buy presents for you kids or have enough money for gas to get to work. I believe Mike has seen this and his years as a preacher has helped him identify with the poor/middle class. So this said don't let big money buy your vote.

    Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!

P.S. Let us know how the weather is in Brazil when you get there.
