Huckabee leads in S.C., poll says

By Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor December 6, 2007 04:47 PM

It looks like Mike Huckabee's surge has reached South Carolina.

A new Insider Advantage poll out today shows the former Arkansas governor in the lead, with 23 percent, more than doubling his 11 percent support in October.

Former Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee, the other Southerner in the race, had been leading, but is now tied for second at 17 percent with former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, according to the poll. Mitt Romney is in fourth with 14 percent and John McCain has 10 percent, the poll found.

South Carolina occupies a key perch in the Republican nomination calendar on Jan. 19, the first big test after the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses and Jan. 8 New Hampshire primary. Huckabee, according to most polls, now leads in Iowa, while Romney leads in New Hampshire.

  1. Glad to see that main stream media doesn't have a clue again about what American's want to see happen in this county. If you actually listened to the media our only option was Romney and Obama.

  1. Looks like Main Stream Media is wrong again, pushing Romney / Gulianie as our choice, it just shows that they don't have a clue what the American public are interested.

  1. Even Mr Ailes at Fox cant prop up his long time buddy Guiliani against the Huckabee steam roller. ( although he seems to be using the network as best he can to do just that.)

  1. What would be interesting would be to have Huckabee win the republican nomination and loose the general election by 9 votes - Utah 5, Idaho 4. Would the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints vote for Hillary (whom most despise) or someone who has been "Un-Christian" about their religion?
