Huckabee surges way ahead in Iowa, poll says
It seems hard to believe, since other recent polls show a tight race between Republicans Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney in Iowa.
But a new Newsweek poll out this afternoon says that Huckabee has surged into a more than 2-1 lead over Romney. The survey, conducted Wednesday and Thursday, shows Huckabee with 39 percent and Romney with 17 percent support among likely Republicans likely to attend the Jan. 3 caucuses.
In its last survey, in September, Huckabee only had 6 percent compared to Romney's 25 percent, Newsweek reported on its website. Its report quoted Larry Hugick, who directed the polling for Princeton Survey Research Associates saying that Huckabee's huge rise is rare.
"He's filling a vacuum," Hugick said. "Nobody on the Republican side was getting strong support."
Support for the other Republicans is also dropping: Fred Thompson is now at 10 percent, Rudy Giuliani is at 9 percent, and John McCain at 6 percent, according to the poll. The poll of 275 likely Republican caucus-goers has a margin of error of plus or minus 7 percentage points.
On the Democratic side, the poll found similar results to other recent surveys. Barack Obama leads Hillary Clinton 35 percent to 29 percent among likely caucus-goers, while John Edwards is in third with 18 percent. The margin of error among 395 likely Democratic caucus-goers is plus or minus 6 percentage points.

Huckabee is not perfect but he does not come across as waffling or slick. Pundits are thinking like pundits instead of like American people who are looking for someone they can trust, who admits his mistakes, and seems genuine.
Great article. Now that people are starting to get a better look at Gov. Huckabee they see a man that they can trust even if they don't agree with him on everything. Many people are giving the excuse for his sudden rise to him being a Christian. That can't be farther from the truth. I am a Christian and I am from Arkansas and 3 months ago I was not even considering Gov. Huckabee as a person that I would vote for but the more I studied him and the other canidates the more I realized that he was exactly what I was looking for. There are going to be a few attacks on him but I have went over his record and believe that there is a real truthful answer for every one of them.

Polls have a way of being manipulated so I don't belive them anymore. Just like I don't watch TV news anymore.
Mike Huckabee is great model for society. He is so humble and trustworthy, I totally support Mike 100%. And Mike has so much charisma, he's always upbeat, positive and truly cares about all Americans.
Case in point, during 10 years as Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee would always have a picture of an ordinary Arkansas citizen in the picture from in the State house. He never wanted his picture on that frame, he always told his staff that we need to always remember who the boss really is. Mike is a really down to earth person, someone everybody would like to have as a neighbor.
And Mike is very determined. Mike has already run 4 Marathon's (26.2 miles) in a short period of time to trim down his weight and he has kept it off. How many times do you gain just a few pounds and find is very difficult to keep it off? Just think of his hectic schedule as Governor and yet he is very determined and focused with a lot of willpower.
Even Time Magazine voted Mike Huckabee one of the Best Governor's in America! This guy is not only one of us, he is very talented. Mike wants to help everyone on Main Street, not just those on Wall Street. Mike can associated how difficult it is for the average American. That's why his poll numbers are skyrocketing.
Mike Huckabee is the only canidadate out there talking about really changes, and he wants to lead everyone up, not just to the hard right or hard left. Mike wants you to bring home 100% of your paycheck from now on by eliminating the complicated tax structures. Just imagine driving back home with 100% of your paycheck from now on!!! Plus this will bring $50 trillion dollars parked off shore because now companies do not have to imbed taxes in the cost of their products. Now they can compete international. This will spark a boom in jobs in America!
And Mike wants to eliminate our need for oil not in 30 years, but in 10 years. This effect will cause oil prices to drop like a rock. Gas prices will go back to the old days. And in 10 years America doesnt have to depend on foreign oil anymore. This will also cause the middle east to crack down hard on the terrorist like they should because they know in one part we are going away from oil due to the terrorists. They will realize they are going to lose trillions of dollars of revenue and you are going to see them really coming down hard on those doing evil.
If you havent had the chance to meet Mike in person, I encourage you to do so. I had the chance to meet and talk to him in person. He really is the kind of person you see on TV, very humble and positive. He remembers your name, makes you laugh and is an overall great person to spend time chatting with.
If you want to see great changes in America, vote for Mike Huckabee. But if you want to have the same things we have over and over with more and more bickering between both sides then choose somebody else. When you get a chance please take a look at MikeHuckabee dot com web's page and watch his video's.
Fred Thompson is now at 10 percent, Rudy Giuliani is at 9 percent, and John McCain at 6 percent, according to the poll.
Ron Paul was at 8 percent in the above poll, but Newsweek refuses to acknowledge it.
Why are they not reporting the facts? Are they that scared that the American people may elect a President who was not force fed to them?
Um wait.
Time Magazine writes an article called "Why America Loves Mike Huckabee" yesterday, then their sister magazine, Newsweek does a poll with just 275 people (that's not a scientific sample people) today to support their Time article yesterday?
I mean, every other poll by LEGITIMATE POLLSTERS (Rasmussen, Zogby) show this as a dead heat, then Newsweek comes along with a TINY sample and calls it a blow-out? Add to that that Huckabee has had a VERY rough week in the press.
Ok, are Time and Newsweek "Right Wing" mags? Lol. No, they are uber-left wing. So why would uber-left wing publicatiosn want to get Huckabee nominated?
Because he is George Bush. Both are religious, southern baptists, socially conservative populalists. They believe they can beat that.
If Huck manages to get the nomination, I can promise you, Time Magazine won't be writing "Why America Loves Huckabee", they will be writing "Why Huckabee Frees Rapists and Murderers.
We are being had folks. Don't say I didnt warn you.
Huckabee does not believe in evolution.
He was a Southern Baptist TV evangelist prior to being Governor of Arkansas.
He has no foreign policy experience.
He is not a fiscal conservative.
He disagrees very little with Bush's current policies.
I bet Romney is a little bitter.
Are you ready for a repeat?

Mike Huckabee supports raising taxes 28.5 %
The consumption tax will increase the tax on people about 28.5 %. Instead of individuals paying 60 % of taxes, they will pay 100% of the budget. In FY 2006, corporation income tax was 13.8 % of the federal budget and corporate employment taxes were 14.7 %. Under the “Fairtax plan,” businesses do not pay taxes.
This poll is complete garbage. If anyone has taken a statistics course, they should know that you need about 1200 random people to get anywhere close to an accurate estimate of an outcome, if my memory serves me well. This is why there is a 7% margin of error. I wish all the candidates well but it is a waste of time to read these ridiculous polls. Also, the Iowa caucuses really don't mean that much even if these predictions are true. I like both Huckabee and Obama but I would be really surprised if either is the next president.
Take a GOOD look at Huckabee and the FairTax - why is the FairTax studies only evaluate incomes up to $200,000? Because the effective tax rate for millionaires and billionaires under the FairTax is less than 1%. You can buy things of great value all day long without ever buying a new one. Think mansions, land, yachts, valuable coins, stamps, bullion, stocks and bonds - all of which increase his wealth and none of which is taxed. The things that are NEW that the super rich require will be provided them as perquisites by the businesses they control. Think company car, company house, company jet - all of which use our infrastructure and none of which is paid for by the entity using them. Why should Walmart pay for roads and bridges when they can get you to pay for free?
This is another attempt by the liberal media to help hand the nomination to ANYONE but Dr. Ron Paul. Much as we'd like politics to be positive, it is in fact ruled almost entirely by negatives. For instance, what's the biggest negative the Republican Party is facing in 2008? Iraq - a staggering 70% of people favor IMMEDIATE withdrawl from Iraq. Who is the only candidate that doesn't have that negative? Dr. Paul, who advocates using those trillions of dollars to secure our border (perhaps against Saudis who were 20 of the 24 terrorists in 9/11) and rebuild our crumbling infrastructure which is far more worrying than the loss of Social Security. Hm, full employment, withdrawl from Iraq and a huge boost to our economy from rebuilding our infrastructure - what Democrat wants to run against that. Hence the behavior of known liberal biased network CNN, who wants us to nominate either Guiliani or Romney - both of whose negatives are so high the copy practically writes itself!
In 1972, I was selected to attend the American Legion sponsored Arkansas Boy's State. I remember very little of the experience, EXCEPT a speech given by the Governor of Boys State, Mike Huckabee. Even then, he was a charismatic speaker. At 16 years old, I suspected then that this guy was destined to go far in politics.
Flash forward. In 2007 I still like listening to Mike Huckabee. However, as much as I'd like to be able to vote for a fellow Arkansan, I am too wary of his religious background leading to a repeat of the mess we've had the last 7 years. While I fully support his right to personal religious beliefs, America is a very diverse country with a diversity of beliefs. Mr. Huckabee, for the most part, has been living a sheltered life primarily in Arkansas deeply involved in his Baptist belief system . I'm terribly concerned about his uber-conservative stands on abortion, gay rights, taxes, etc. I don't want another conservative President that's going to pander to his 'base', who would rather see America as a theocracy instead of a democracy. I came from a small town in Arkansas that was primarily Baptist. I couldn't get away from there soon enough when I turned 18 and could head off to college. I knew there had to be places in this country that weren't so narrow in their viewpoints and that tried to push those viewpoints onto anyone else in the community that might view things differently. I don't want to see that happen to the rest of America.
As a fellow Arkansas with ties to Hope mysef, I wish Mr. Huckabee good luck on the campaign, I truly do. But unless I hear thing from him that suggest he can be a leader for ALL Americans, I will have to cast my vote with the Democrats.
I BELIEVE THAT MIKE HUCKABEE IS A TRUE AMERICAN, AND I TRUST HIM, THE MORE I HEAR HIM SPEAK THE MORE IF FEEL HE WILL MAKE A GREAT PRESIDENT. HE FOLLOWS THE CONSTITUTION AND THAT IS WHAT AMERICA NEEDS. OUR COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON THE BIBLE AND WE NEED TO GET BACK TO BASICS, WHERE ALL PEOPLE ARE CREATED EQUAL, NO MATTER WHAT COLOR, CREED, OR RELIGION. MIKE H. WILL BE A GOOD PRESIDENT, MY HUSBAND AND I WILL VOTE FOR HIM. WE FEAR FOR OUR COUNTRY IF ANOTHER CLINTON GETS IN THE WHITE HOUSE.
