In 2003 speech, video of which is re-emerging on the internet today, Barack Obama called Ted Kennedy "a little old" and that he should "get some spine" and challenge Republicans more on healthcare.
The video, obtained by the liberal blog Huffington Post, was taken at a time Obama was still a state senator running for the US Senate.
"We've got to call up not just Republicans, but we got to call up Ted Kennedy and say, Ted, you're getting a little old now, and you've been a fighter for us before I don't know what's happening now, Ted get some spine and stand up to the Republicans," said Obama.
Asked about the video, Kennedy spokeswoman Melissa Wagoner said, "Senator Kennedy is glad Senator Obama tells people to give him a call when itís time to fight. Heís always more than happy to stand up and fight for the American people.
