Paul supporters claim fund-raising record

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor December 17, 2007 10:04 AM

The Ron Paul Revolution can apparently claim another record.

The Republican candidate's vociferous backers said this morning that a Boston-centered fund-raising event brought in more than $6 million from more than 59,000 online donors on Sunday.

That smashes the $4.2 million they raised on Nov. 5 to set the one-day record for a Republican candidate during the primaries. The total also surpasses the $5.7 million that Senator John F. Kerry raised online the day he accepted the Democratic nomination in 2004 and is behind only the $6.2 million that Hillary Clinton raised on June 30 as the highest total for one day during a primary season.

Paul's fund-raising haul during the fourth quarter -- more than $18 million and counting, according to his website -- is far more than other candidates who are polling in the single digits as he is. It should be enough to keep him in the race until Feb. 5, when more than 20 states vote, no matter how he does in the early-voting state of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

  1. Huckabee is surging, huh? With an unmet goal of 1.5 million for december, he is the new up and coming GOP contender? HA! The Mainstream media should be able to realize the true GOP underdog contender...RON PAUL. (Doubtful, seeing as how none of the major media networks are on Dr. Paul's payroll.) Will this half-baked coverage be enough to wake the american sheeple? God Willing.

  1. This article is slightly inaccurate. Hillary Clinton doesn't hold a single-day fundraising record of 6.2 million. Hillary's "best day" was 6.2 million in campaign PLEDGES, not actual money recieved. In point of fact, out of the 6.2 million in pledges she recieved, she collected around 50% of that amount. Ron Paul's haul was cash recieved in a single day, and did not include any pledges (which might be honored or not).

  1. hey mike...you can't actually believe this means anything...HE BROKE THE RECORD OF ALL TIME....no other politician in the history of this country has had this amount of money and donators in a 24 hour period.

And while you're over there pointing our 'bitch fest', do me a favor and go to every major news site (cnn, fox, abc, nbc, ny times, etc) and tell me the percentage of them who have this as one of their top 3 stories!!!

so mike...do us all a favor and WAKE THE %#*# UP!!

    thanx :)

  1. Count on a lib reporter to perpetuate the myth of Hillary's $6.2 million. Like so much in the former First Lady's campaign that claim fails the truth test.

  1. In this article it claims that Hillary Clinton’s record stands over Ron Paul's. However the total was 6.4 million, 6 million online (confirmed by credit card receipts) and .4 million offline. Which in a 24 hour period in now the top holder. To complicate things even more other news sources hold john Kerry's 5.7 million as the official record to beat, as Hillary’s was never confirmed to one day.

Please contact the Ron Paul headquarters for the FACTS.
