Poll says Huckabee has jumped to second nationally

By Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor December 5, 2007 03:33 PM

A passel of new polls out today provide further proof of the presidential landscape:

It's a dead heat in Iowa for both Democrats (a three-way race) and Republicans (a two-man contest). Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney are holding on to leads in New Hampshire. And Mike Huckabee's surge in Iowa is now translating to Republicans nationally.

A Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll shows that Huckabee's support nationally has more than doubled from 7 percent in October to 17 percent. He trails only long-time front-runner Rudy Giuliani, who has 23 percent, and has jumped ahead of Fred Thompson, John McCain, and Mitt Romney.

Among Democrats, Clinton maintains a large lead over Barack Obama, and Democrats continue to view her as the candidate most likely to beat a Republican.

In Iowa, Zogby International's new survey shows Clinton at 27 percent, Obama at 24 percent, and John Edwards at 21 percent among Democrats. On the Republican side, Romney at 26 percent and Huckabee at 25 percent are statistically tied.

In New Hampshire, Zogby says that Clinton leads Obama by 32 percent to 21 percent, with Edwards in third at 16 percent. Romney leads among Republicans with 35 percent, with McCain now in second with 17 percent, Giuliani in third with 15 percent, and Huckabee in double digits with 10 percent.

An ABC News/Washington Post poll released this afternoon has Clinton's edge in New Hampshire shrinking to the single digits, at 35 percent to 29 percent over Obama. But a Marist poll released this afternoon put her lead at a more comfortable 37 percent to 23 percent over Obama.

  1. According to Rasmussen's daily tracking poll, Huckabee is now 1st nationally. Likely, this rise in the polls is going to continue. I'm a Huckabee supporter, I admit, but I believe it's becoming obvious to more and more that this guy has what it takes to assume political celebrity status.

  1. Huckabee is what we've been looking for. He's another Ronald Reagan only more articulate and more brilliant., but still charming and warm.

  1. In 25+ years of voting, we have never contributed to a Presidential campaign; however, we have now contributed three times to Mike Huckabee. He is a man of integrity and vision. Mike Huckabee is AUTHENTIC!!!

  1. Regardless of what the national polls are reporting, Ron Paul is a clearly “top tier” candidate. He absolutely dominates in the Straw Polls, Debate Polls, Fund Raising, Web Traffic and Grass Roots Networking. I have gathered theevidence and created a website to support this statement.

  1. I hope people will do their research on Huckabee. I was concerned about his record on taxes and immigration (he's solid gold on abortion and marriage) till I looked past the attacks and found out for myself.

It turns out that Huckabee's tax record is even better than Mitt Romney's and on immigration he is against amnesty, against drivers licenses for illegals, against sanctuary cities, and for securing the border and going after employers.

Huckabee's real record is good enough for me.

  1. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Mike Huckabee's message resonates with the people because his voice is their voice. Get behind the movement and take my challenge by visiting:

  1. I like Huckabee, and I like McCain. Both are men of integrity, and both are real conservatives (unlike Rudy and Mitt). At this point, I believe McCain is the better fiscal conservative, and therefore he'll be getting my vote. But Huckabee is running a close second.

  1. I've lived in Iowa all my life and I saw his ad here in Iowa, he's prolife and opposes gay marriage, and has experience as a govenor. I'm a Christian, and I've seen several of my Christian brothers and sisters have "huckabee" bumper stickers. I'd rather have him as President than Romney.

  1. The most important aspect of Mike Huckabee is that he is a UNITER, just what this country needs. He wont go negative in his campaigning... even against his Democratic rival... sure, he'll make AWFUL jokes, but they are all in jest and are usually true, or jsut plain, well, awful...

But the point is that he is genuine, intelligent, and a man of reason. His ability to pick up endoresments from teh Teachers and Labor unions are not black marks, rather a sign that he is the ONLY candidate able and willing to FINALLY heal this national political divide.

Mike Huckabee believes in Vertical Politics... That is thinking in terms of right and wrong, not right and left. It is clear when he speaks that he honestly believes this!

  1. Cleaner 44 either doesn't understand polls or is deliberately ignoring the facts. Indeed, telephone polls have their flaws, but they are not nearly as frivilous as self-decided polls that come after debates and such. Being organized to flood bank with emails or phone calls (in which you can vote more than once, for example) is not the same thing as get-out-the-vote. The Ames straw poll showed Paul's weakness. He easily had the most people there (from out of state) and the most signs. But when the final tally came out he was far behind.

    Don't be deceived.

  1. Huckabee has a spiritual side to him that is the engine that makes him go. I think he also alligns himself well with the national Republican Party Platform. Huckabee has my vote and my prayers. Sincerely in Christ, Kenny Merriken

  1. In a general election, Huckabee is weak because Americans do not want an ordained Christian minister assuming the office of President of the United States. Ministers should stick to their flock. On the democratic side, Hillary Clinton is weak because Americans do not want another Family Dynasty in the White House. The Bush Dynasty has shown America how absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I'd like to see Obama as President and Ron Paul as his VP. That would be revolutionary!
