Rollins signs on to run Huckabee campaign
Mike Huckabee, whose rise in the polls hadn't been matched by a surge in his staffing, is getting a veteran Republican strategist to run his campaign.
At a press conference in Concord, N.H., he announced that Ed Rollins, the mastermind of Ronald Reagan's 1984 landslide re-election and of Ross Perot's independent bid in 1992, will be his national campaign chairman.
Huckabee said the addition of Rollins should answer questions about whether his campaign has the necessary infrastructure to continue what he called his "extraordinary momentum."
"Ed Rollins is a name very familiar in American politics," Huckabee said. "We're quite pleased...It will be a tremendous benefit to us."
Rollins said of the Republican presidential hopefuls, he knew the least about Huckabee, but became more and more impressed with him as he watched him build his campaign over the past six months.
"I'm very excited about this campaign," Rollins said.
Huckabee has overtaken Mitt Romney in the polls in Iowa and has surged to second in national polls behind Rudy Giuliani, but is still in fourth place in New Hampshire, whose Jan. 8 primary comes five days after the Iowa caucuses. In one indication of Huckabee's standing, CNN covered the press conference live.

Thank God!
The grassroots efforts by us regular folk could really use the help ! The Huckaboom has really gotten so big - much more than we could contain.
Great news!
Thanks for the story.
Mike Huckabee is the best hope for America and Israel and I really believe that the Nation will begin to rise up to support him. He's really a man that we can trust.
Just another GW Bush in the White House. Come on guys.. why aren't you supporting this Huckabee guy already!
Just heard about Huck's website and took a gander. I didn't know anything about him until tonight. At first look...so far, his stance on issues are closer to my own than any of the other republicans. I will keep my eyes and ears open for a well-informed decision come V-Day.
"...Joe Biden is now the third best bet for the nomination. I'm hearing a lot of buzz about him from people who pay attention."
