As Obama builds lead in S.C., Clinton shifts focus to Super Tuesday states

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor January 23, 2008 10:08 AM

Barack Obama holds an 18-percentage-point lead over Hillary Clinton among likely voters in Saturday's Democratic primary in South Carolina, according to a new poll out today.

That helps explain why Clinton is already campaigning in delegate-rich states that are part of Super Tuesday on Feb. 5, while relying on former President Bill Clinton to show the flag in South Carolina.

According to the Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby tracking poll released this morning, Obama leads Clinton 43 percent to 25 percent, while John Edwards is a distant third at 15 percent. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

Obama holds a commanding lead -- 65 percent to 16 percent -- among black voters, who are expected to make up at least half of primary voters. Clinton and Edwards are even among white voters, while Obama is a distant third, according to the poll.

Clinton has campaign events scheduled today in Pennsylvania and in New Jersey. The latter holds one of 22 Democratic contests on Feb. 5. She is also airing three TV ads in several of the Feb. 5 states; one ad touts her clean energy proposals, while the other two are about her plans to revive the economy and aid working-class and middle-class families.

"These ads are classic Clinton spin: Blame Republicans, distort facts, and propose more taxes and spending," Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant said in a statement.

  1. Vote China! Vote for a Clinton!

Bill Clinton's U.S. China Relations Act of 2000 and Walmart are a match made in heaven--for the Waltons and the Chinese! Of course, it's no accident that the Clintons secretly made use of their Arkansas and Chinese allies to gain the presidency. With USCRA, the Clintons set our country up for a trade imbalance that made the Waltons even richer. Bottom line: a vote for Clinton is a vote for the People's Republic of China.

  1. Superdelegates are going to agree that Hillary stands the best chance against the GOP regardless of what SC thinks. I think Barack is a good candidate, but voting on the most inexperienced guy just because he is black is not good for America.

  1. I love how stupid people are as SHE marches Bill around like he was so great. 8 years and people forget. I appreciate the work on the deficit he did but he was so busy in the oval office that terrorist networks were built up to the boiling points. Experience she says ? Experience buying a house in NY and then buying her seat in the Senate. Obama, Romney or McCain, anybody but the good ol boy Democratic network. They're scared of everyone else because they might actually say NO.

  1. Hillary bought her seat? Huh? So Romney DIDN'T buy the MA governorship when he wasn't even a state resident? Then he presided over the biggest tax and murder rate increases in the history of the state. Oh boy, let's bring that "experience" to the white House!

  1. I think that the American people will realize before it is too late that we cannot return these two sociopaths to power. The Clintons have left a trail of broken lives and, yes, personal destruction in their messy wake as they have relentlessy pursued power and wealth. Just think of how many people -- not just the women, but reporters, state troopers, White House employees -- have to be lying in order for Bill and Hillary to be telling the truth about their sordid lives. "I didn't inhale." "I don't know how those records got here." "I made $100,000 in nine months by myself, by reading the Wall Street Journal." "I never had sexual realtionswiht that woman." "It's all a vast right-wing conspiracy." Etc. etc. Now we have the spectacle of Hillary Clinton finding fault with the public service record of Barack Obama, when the stench of her own dishonesty corruption hangs around her like a five-day old haddock in the sun.

  1. The RW nutbags are scared, the dems are going to win no matter who is the nominee. The repugs are leaderless, cluesless, nitwits lead by Chimphead.

It's bye bye repugs, into the dustbin of history.
