Clinton backers question Obama's credentials
By Bryan Bender, Globe Staff
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- A key message of Hillary Clinton's top supporters in New Hampshire today was not about the New York senator but her main rival for the Democratic nomination, Barack Obama.
"He never had to fight," Emily Malcolm, founder of EMILY's List -- a fund-raising network that supports abortion rights female candidates -- told a wavering Clinton supporter in the Toadstool Bookshop.
Malcolm, campaigning for Clinton across the Granite State along with Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, reminded the young woman that Obama "only beat Alan Keyes" for US Senate in Illinois in 2004 to highlight his lack of experience in facing the kind of determined Republican campaign the Democratic nominee is likely to confront in the general election.
When asked by a reporter to outline her main message to voters, Mikulski also responded by talking about Obama, saying that Thursday's Iowa caucuses, in which Obama beat both Clinton and former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina, "was a great victory for democracy."
But while she said Obama "won round one," she insisted that Clinton has the "vision, direction, and know-how" to go 50 rounds, a reference to the multiple primaries that will follow New Hampshire.
"She is ready for change but she is also ready to lead," Mikulski said.
But Mikulski, who endorsed her Senate colleague the day she announced her candidacy, acknowledged that tonight's Democratic debate will be crucial in determining Tuesday's outcome. Clinton and Obama, she said, need to "really duke it out."

Umm, who did Hillary beat for the New York Senate? One mediocre candidate (2000) and one virtually non-existent candidate (2004). Besides that, she held ceremonial posts (first lady) in state and national government. What her so-called "fight" has gotten her is an unhealthy dose of cynicism, paranoia, secrecy, and winner-takes-all mentality. Sounds a lot like our leader for the past 7 years. GO OBAMA!
umm, didn't he just fight and beat hillary in iowa? does emily even get the irony of saying he's never beaten anyone as she campaigns for HRC?
Hillary reminds me of Governor Tracy in the movie Black Sheep -- very devious and crooked. I'll be honest, I am a Republican through and through. I want Romney to win. However, I do not think a Republican will win this election. Having said that, I have no problem with Obama being our next president. So long as Hillary is not in the Oval Office I'm ok. She is just a horrible socialist pig . .

We have had enough of the Bush's and the Clinton's. It's time for a change.
Go Obama
All indicators show that Clinton will navigate this country towards safety from terrorists, economic stability, a reliable social security for retirement, and affordable healthcare. As a woman president she would be a great role model for women and girls of every race, ethnicity, and religion. I feel calm and hope when I think about a safe future with President Hillary Clinton guiding our great country.
Anyone can have hope in something but if you dont have experience how can you carry out the dream. You cant! Because you have no where to start. We hear 'change' but change isnt always good.."Improvement" now thats good! and that is what Hillary R Clinton will prodce for this country. Obamas two years in the senate is nothing compared to 8 years in the senate, 8 years of being a first lady which included traveling to over 60 countries and meeting with various diplomats. A healthcare program that only benefits children can not compare to a healthcare that benefits all Americans. This country needs a president who is ready lead this nation from the get go and has time to wait for the person learn how to do a job
Hey #3 and #4 above, nice level of maturity calling a presidential candidate a "social pig" and maybe anyway you should check your facts. Obama is far more liberal than Clinton. He even wants to do away with minimum mandatory sentences. And check out his church at www.tucc.org.
Huh?
I'm glad to see some ppl on here for Hillary..but some ppl will be voting for Obama..thats your choice..I know I wont be voting for him..I dont like nor trust him, he hasnt shown me anything *magical* to change my vote towards him. I have always like Hillary and I think that she would be a great president. And for #3 and #4 (same person) how can you call her devious and crooked, everyone is one way or another..Do you think that Obama is squeeky clean? Umm look in his past..he is far from being clean..What I want in a president..is someone who has Experience..and Hillary has a lot more then Obama..GO HILLARY R CLINTON!! I'm behind you 100%..
now everybody look at what Clinton is doing? blaming her failures on Obama's credientials? This lady has got to be joking... The people of America have had enough of her, is time for change in America and that change is Obama. I don't think she speaks from the heart, she only says what her advisors tell her to say, Obama speaks from the heart, a reflection of truth and honesty and that is the kind of leader we what, that kind of leader who speaks from the heart not from the book!. Is time she understands that is people she is dealing with not puppets. I am a republican but i will be with Obama all the way. Go Obama, we want and need change in America now!. The new Martin King is in town!
Derririck,
No one can read what is in people's hearts even when they speak. Just listening to Obama's rhetoric, doesn't mean he's completely honest. Like every politician, he has a speech writer who travels with him. Personally, I use the brain in my head like my creator wants me to, and I am not being led by my heart. You cannot compare Obama to Martin Luther King. Martin was a gifted person and he wrote his own speeches. Obama cannot even take up Dr. King's mantle, because there was only one Dr. King and there has been no other since him. It is okay to state whatever differences in policy or agenda with her opponents. When Obama was mocking her experience, it was fine with the media and Obama supporters. Now Clinton is highlighting their differences, Obamians are crying foul. It's part of the process. Iowans may have voted for change, and that's including Republicans who voted for Obama, like Lieberman in Connecticut. Don't imagine that all of the other 49 States are just going to follow blindly, like the pied piper. Who is Obama? How is he going to implement change? By getting rid of lobbyist and corporatist? He should look at Deval who rode into the Mass statehouse on the wave of change. How far has he gotten? Obama will find that it is hard to get rid of ways that have been entrenced for hundreds of years.
people wanted a changes when they voted for bush a big mistake
go hillary
an experienced woman
a good woman
not a cocaine/pot head/muslim with the middle name of hussein
please
Obama is a wasted vote
he will not beat the republicans in the presedential elections
let us think of the whole picture
No one can deny the dedication, experience and intelligence of Hillary Clinton. She doesn't just talk about change, her record has proven she's brought change. Regarding her health care plan: Dr. Timothy Johnson--a nonpartial consultant/reporter/medical doctor--said on Good Morning American that Hillary health care program is solid, and doable. And I believe we can't afford not to have health care for all our citizens. There's no denying the statistics: Our mortality rate is higher than Cuba's, higher than France's, higher than Canada's and higher than England's. Why? These countries provide national health care for their citizens. Regarding Obama: He's a nice, goodlooking, intelligent guy, but he doesn't have the experience needed to lead this country, and we can't afford to let him learn on the job.
Who needs Hillary's experience of corruption and establishment pandering, her loyalties to corporations and special interests who finance her campaign? God forbid we get those two aging horses in the White House again. We don't need divisiveness, deviousness and nastiness again. The Clinton's are political grifters. Obama is a capable and true gentleman who can bring us together.
The media made Hillary the front runner before anybody voted in the primary. Now the media is making this nomination process “Change versus Experience”. We buy into this media game without asking ourselves what really do these candidates stand for, what have they accomplished, and where do they want to see us go.
In my rational way of looking at things and perhaps in my reality world, this contest is about change and the agents of change.
On the one hand, we have change, idealistic and theoretical, driven by empty words (false hope) and strong emotions but only temporary because it cannot stand the test of time. A change that will require four years on the job training to clean the mess of the current administration. A change that will take a second term in office before the agents can even begin implementing their ideas which has been lost in this discussion perhaps because they really don’t have one.
On the other hand, we have change that can be put into effect right away. A change based on logical and rational thoughts and grounded on experience. A change that does not require on the job training. A change that can stand the test of time. A change you can feel, hear, see, smell, taste, and touch.
President Bush was an outsider, an agent of change. He was elected 8 years ago with the help of the Supreme Court and re-elected 4 years ago. Exit polls showed that he was well liked, most people consider him to be their next door neighbor, he was the type they could hang out with, etc. With only the concept of change and no experience on foreign affairs amongst others, he surrounded himself with the best experienced advisers money can buy. What do we have today in return? A broken system: FBI/CIA abuses, Iraq war, Effects of Hurricane Katrina, Economic woes, Recession, etc.
I know Obama and Edwards are not President Bush. I am sure they have different set of ideas and values. But I think it will be wrong to put the future of our country in the hands of someone without the first hand experience involved in the concept of change especially in today’s global dynamics of powers.
I don't trust Hillary and would never vote for her. If she gets the nomination, I will switch and vote Republican. If Hillary is riding on Bill's experience she should be remembered for his failures. The man looked the American people in the eye and lied to them. If Hillary didn't know what was going on in the White House under her nose how will she know what is going on in America. Also as she showed in last nights debates she can't handle the pressure. If she gets that upset over Obama's credentials what will she do when world leaders really turn on the heat. She attacked Obama then got upset because he defended himself. If Hillary is running on 35 years of experience, she should have something more to show then the things she is saying she did.
I don't like Hillary's Health Care Plan. I don't want the government telling me I have to have health care or pay a penalty. I think that it giving them too much control. What is next will she tell us we have to buy healthy food and join a health club or pay a fine.

While Mr. Obama sounds good he has little or no experience or he would know that just because you say you're going to do something doesn't mean it will happen. Like past Presidents he won't be able to accomplish a thing with a republican congress and senate. He may be an above average orator with a nice guy persona, but I don't know if Mr. Nice Guy is the person I want to have dealing with Sadaam and his fellow terrorists. I prefer someone tougher and more experienced. Mr. Obama while very likeable is too young and too inexperienced.
I still can not find a complete history of Obama. What the heck has this guy ever done except be a average senator for 3 years? why is it so hard to get any facts about the guy? I want his complete resume before I even consider any kind of vote for this guy? Frankly he seems like light weight to me. The republicans will pour millions and millions into crushing the candidate of the democrats. We need a person of substance.
