Clinton shows emotion in final hours
By James W. Pindell, Globe correspondent
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- A day before the New Hampshire primary after a nonstop campaign schedule, Senator Hillary Clinton welled up with tears today when responding to a personal question from an undecided voter.
Marianne Pernold, 64, a freelance photographer, asked Clinton: "As a woman, I know it is hard to get out of the house. And my question is very personal. How do you keep upbeat and look so good all the time?"
Clinton paused and said that "special" days she has some "help" with her make-up. But then her voice broke and she got teary as she talked about what's at stake in the election. (Watch it here.)
"It's not easy. It's not easy," she said. "This is very personal for me. It is not just political. It is not just public. I see what's happening. We have to reverse it. And some people think elections are a game, think like who is up, who is down. It's about our country.
"Some of us are right and some of us are wrong. Some of us are ready and some of us are not. Some us know what we will do on day one and some of us haven't thought it through enough," she said.
The question took place toward the end of an hour-long conversation with 14 undecided voters at a coffee shop. Some of them responded well to Clinton's rare show of emotion.
"She definitely teared up. I believe her," said Elizabeth Holcomb, from Exeter, who sat close to Clinton. "I believe that what she says comes from her heart."

Does not sound very Presidential to me!! A public figure, especially one vying to become Commander in Chief, must be able to keep his/her emotions in check. Can you imagine the outrage if Condoleesa Rice was exhausted and welled up while on a Middle East peace-keeping mission?!! I think Hillary is frustrated by her inability to connect with people and she sees her opportunity to win the Democratic nomination slipping away. It didn't take long for her to make fun of Iowa and I am sure her campaign will have a similar excuse concerning NH once she loses tomorrow.
PS - I still haven't figured how a second term Senator can keep pointing to her vast experience over a one term Senator.
Oh Please .....
You don't think current and former presidents have become visibly emotional ? It's not a matter of keeping them in check ... it's a matter of making the best decision at the time with the information currently at hand.
PS .... The vast experience she is talking about would be the eight years she spent in the White House with Bill. If you honestly believe she didn't know what was going on and who was doing what the whole time she was there then you are completely blind. Now add two terms as Senator to those eight years and you get a VAST experience.
I am a retail shop owner in a market just over 300k from the heavily taxed Upstate NY area. The recession of the 90s saw the majority of my 10 member family move to lower taxed Portsmouth NH area due to a factory move. We all moved ahead in that time. People who enter my shop today are looking for a "silver bullet" to save them from the decision between, heat, groceries, and mortgage. The demographic of the people making the above decisions are considered the middle class. People in my and your hard-working families are struggling, while the country is being manipulated to split the Democratic vote. This is to retain a Republican President. Hillary is the only way to regain our middle class statis in our small towns, in our cities and in the global economy. To be the global economic leaders.
