Mitt Romney claimed the endorsement today of a veteran US senator from the Deep South, Thad Cochran of Mississippi.
"At this moment our nation faces unprecedented challenges, and Governor Romney has the experience, vision and values needed to strengthen our country for future generations," Cochran said in a statement issued by the Romney campaign. "Governor Romney is a man of outstanding judgment and strong character."
Cochran had initally endorsed Fred Thompson, but the former Tennessee senator withdrew from the race on Tuesday.
The backing from Cochran, the sixth sitting Republican senator to join Romney's team, should help Romney build his case that he has national appeal in the GOP.

we need fresh ideas in gov't . Romney has a history of improving situations where he goes. somebody this smart doesn't come around too often to run for President. he has my vote.
The media are really trying to push McCain down our throats. Not because McCain is someone they like, but because he will be beaten by either Obama or Clinton. Romney, as I have maintained all along, has the midas touch. They know they can't stop him if he gets the nomination. The Mormon thing is a non-issue. My very Southern somewhat anti-semitic relative insisted on a Jewish lawyer when he was falsely accused of a crime. When he felt threatened, he happily paid tens of thousands of dollars to a Jewish man because that man was a great lawyer. Same with Romney: anti-Mormons will happily vote for Romney regardless of their personal views of Mormonism because they recognize that he can get the job done.
Smart man
Romney is the clear choice for President!!! He has a great track record for turning around economic diasters at Bain, Staples, Massachussetts state gov. (from $3B debt to a surplus), and the Olympics. Folks thought there would be no Olympics when corruption took almost all the funding but, Mitt got creative and brought off arguably the best Olympics ever--even with the added burden of full scale security as it was the first really major event after 9/11.
Won't it be great to have a brilliant, articulate President to represent us to the world and use his creativity on internal and external economics but also who will stand strong on issues of immigration, defense and of course he is a fiscal conservative with a capital C.
He is electable: Currently has 66 delegate votes to McCain's 38 and Huckabee's 20 (Not that you'll hear that in the news from libs who want McCain).
He is right that Washington is broken! The economy is broken!! The moral fiber of our nation is wavering!!! Fix it Mitt!!! Fix it Mitt!!! Fix it Mitt!!!!
This contest between Romney and McCain is only a contest due to the liberal and moderate votes that McCain has, and will always have. Romney has major appeal among the GOP and it's obvious with endorsements like this one.
Romney is THE ONLY candidate that has any experience with major corporate turn-arounds and political overhauling -- AND he can actually speak and debate. Look at Mass... $3 billion deficit when Romney started and a $700+ million surplus that continues to climb -- win for Romney. Look at Staples, Brookstone, Domino's, Sealy and Sports Authority... all companies that are major national franchises due to Romney and Bain Capital -- wins for Romney. Look at the Salt Lake City Olympics... $379 million short of its revenue benchmarks until Romney was hired -- the olympics cleared a $100 million dollarprofit.
WAKE UP AMERICA, VOTE ROMNEY!!!
Those who know Romney best trust him the most to lead this country!
Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts is really not that stellar. Northeastern University economist Andrew Sum, who has researched Romney's record, said the state lagged the U.S. average during that period in job creation, economic growth and wage increases.
"As a strict labor market economist looking at the record, Massachusetts did very poorly during the Romney years, he said. "On every measure you've got, the state was a substantial under-performer."
Romney sugar-coats his record, and cherry-picks his facts and figures to paint a very rosy picture of his accomplishments. The Fact Checker has given him multiple Three Pinocchio ratings and even a Four Pinocchio rating (the worst) for some of his claims.
I would encourage people to take a closer look at Huckabee. Huckabee is the only other governor in this race, and he has a record in Arkansas more than twice as long as Romney's. Allies of Romney funded the Club for Growth's early attacks on Huckabee, which curiously started running ads against Huckabee far before he was much of a blip on the national radar.
Yet many Arkansas businessmen, who know Huck's record, came out recently in support of Huckabee and stated that the Club for Growth's ad was misleading. A closer look at the facts on Romney's own record, on the Club for Growth's own website (stripped of editorializing), shows his record was at least as questionable as Huckabee's.
The fact is that Huckabee governed extremely well, raising Arkansas education standards from well below average nationwide to 8th in the nation, and repairing one of the nation's worst road systems. He cut spending to the bone before being forced to raise taxes to cover a budget shortfall.
On the social issues, Huckabee has a proven record of supporting life and marriage whereas all Romney offers are flip-flops and promises. Huckabee can DEFINITELY be trusted on these issues but Romney not at all.
ONE THING MITT ROMNEY CAN DO FOR THE DEMOCRATS IS TO BE DIFFERENT FROM THEM.
FIRST, HE IS NOT BILL CLINTON, OR HILLARY CLINTON, NO WHITEWATER, NO FILEGATE, NO "THAT DEPENDS ON YOUR DEFINITION OF THE WORD IS" LIES AND LACK OF INTEGRITY. AT LEAST WITH MITT ROMNEY WE WON'T HAVE TO WORRY WHAT BILL IS DOING IN THE OVAL OFFICE. WE WILL HAVE A MAN OF INTEGRITY AND HONOR TO REPRESENT THE COUNTRY WITH HONOR AGAIN LIKE HE DID WHEN HE REPRESENTED THE COUNTRY AS CHAIRMAN OF OUR SALT LAKE OLYMPICS.
SECOND, AS CALIFORNIA IS PROBABLY IN A RECESSION, HE IS "BY FAR" THE MOST EXPERIENCED ONE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT TO HANDLE THE ECONOMY. NO ONE ELSE FROM EITHER PARTY HAS EVER RUN A CORNER STORE, LET ALONE THE LARGEST ECONOMY IN THE WORLD.
THIRD, YOU KNOW, YOU REALLY KNOW IF YOU ARE HONEST, THAT ALL PREDJUDICE ASIDE, FROM SOMEWHERE DEEP INSIDE YOUR HEART THAT MITT ROMNEY IS "BY FAR" THE MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE TO BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT. HE IS NOT A WASHINGTON INSIDER-NOT A SENATOR WITH LOTS OF FAVORS TO REPAY, HE TURNS AROUND U.S. BUSINESSES FOR A LIVING AND IS CONSIDERED THE "BEST" AT IT. HE IS A FAITHFUL HUSBAND OF 37 YEARS TO HIS FIRST LOVE ANN ROMNEY. HE IS THE PROUD FATHER OF 5 GREAT ALL AMERICAN SONS WHO ARE ALL MARRIED AND ARE FATHERS OF THEIR OWN. THEY ALL LOVE AND SUPPORT THEIR DAD. THERE IS NO "DISFUNTION" IN THIS FAMILY. YOU CAN'T GET THAT WITH CLINTON,GULIANI. LET'S SAVE THE COUNTRY, MITT ROMNEY WILL NOT ONLY BE A GOOD PRESIDENT, HE WILL BE A GREAT PRESIDENT. I KNOW THIS MAN'S FAMILY PERSONALLY AND I CERTIFY THIS IS TRUE.
Maine caucus showed us the way. They buried McCain!!! Two Senators tried to gloss over his record, temper, etc., and they got mud all over their face. Lets vote then out of office also. Let's face it, McCain is a time bomb waiting to explode. Can you emagine him shouting and cursing the head of another country like he has done to other Senators who dare disagree with him. I don't want a WAR LORD as my president. Vote Romney, he has a cool temper and is a rock hard REPUBLICAN.
