Dodd withdraws from Democratic field

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor January 3, 2008 10:41 PM

Democrat Chris Dodd, who moved his entire family to Iowa for the last weeks of the campaign, dropped out tonight after his poor showing in the caucuses, CNN and the Associated Press reported.

The Connecticut senator had hoped to finish at least fourth, but was seventh with almost all precincts reporting.

He played up his experience in the US Senate and strongly criticized the Bush administration over what he called an assault on civil liberties during the war on terror, but his campaign never caught fire, overshadowed by the better-financed campaigns of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in particular.

  1. Dodd is a class act. Let's hope he has a place in Obama's administration.

  1. We need a new Majority Leader in the Senate. Dodd would be perfect.

I hope he knows the outpouring of support he got from his efforts to block telcom immunity was genuine and lasting. Even if he isn't destined to be president he showed himself be be a great leader.

  1. Chris Dodd is an embarrasment to the state of CT. He has spent the last year running around the country in a futile effort to be become President when he had no chance. He even moved his family from the state. He lived off the CT tax payers money while not doing his job, missing votes and delivering on nothing for the state. Over 30 years in public office and his only claim to fame is a Family Leave Act which few folks can afford to use and costs business millions of dollars and jobs in paperwork.

All this effort and money spent results in 0% support. We now refer to him as Senator Zero in CT. Pee Wee Herman could have beaten him

Whoever runs against him in CT in the next Senate race needs to use this ego trip he took against him. He should resign. He is no leader
