Kennedy backs Obama for president
A lion of the Democratic Party formally endorsed Barack Obama today -- a huge boost heading into Super Tuesday.
Representative Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island offered his support, then introduced Caroline Kennedy, who said her children were the first to help convince her that Obama was the president the country needed.
She, in turn, introduced Senator Edward M. Kennedy, as an enthusiastic crowd at American University chanted, "Teddy, Teddy."
"I feel change in the air," said Kennedy, who called Obama a "leader who truly has the power to inspire and make America good again from sea to shining sea."
Kennedy said he respects the work and principles of Hillary Clinton and John Edwards. "They are my friends," Kennedy said.
But Obama, Kennedy said, possesses "extraordinary gifts" of leadership and character. "He is a leader who sees the world clearly, without cynicism," Kennedy said, who "appeals to the better angels of our nature."

Forget about Ted's nomination. It's Carolyn's that resonates with me. Her endorsement in the Times entitled "A President Like My Father" sent chills up my spine. As a person who lived through the Kennedy era and his assination, I can tell you that since that day, there hasn't been a politician who hasn't sought to draw a comparison between him/herself and JFK. (remember Berentson telling Quayle "you're no Jack Kennedy") To get that coveted endorssement with so direct an allusion to her dead father is more than an honor. It is a major achievement, accomplished by someone nobody knew a few short years ago. And with that endorsement will come a flood of others. Toni Morrison just got on board that train. I guess she got new glasses since referring to Bill Clinton ad the first black president. Around the corner, I predict Al Gore and other powerful luminaries who could just push Obama to a win in November. Obama has a unique skill set that sets him apart from the pack. What he lacks in experience, he more than makes up for in "wisdom" as Ms. Morrison so eloquently stated, and wisdom, that rare combination of exceptional intelligence, creativity and drive doesn't come along that often. We have been so numbed by the Bush presidency; leadership from the bottom (the very bottom) up. We are desperately in need of wisdom and top-down leadership.
Please .... Ted's impact will be nominal and a wash... the overstuffed buffoon had his day.... to think he has any national impact is nothing more than self wishing
Obama may be the President some day... and I may vote for him at the appropriate time... But 2 years in the Senate does not qualify him for the role...
As much as I admire Senator Kennedy and Caroline- and as a liberal in Connecticut- I think Senator 'Ted' has little in common with bread and butter Democrats- neither does Caroline. Mr. Obama may be inspirational- but his resume is thin- and in these dire times he would be a disaster for this nation.
And likely would loose in November anyway- the republicans are licking their chops -he is the weakest possible candidate. I will sit out November if Obama is the nominee- and vote the Democratic slate for congress.
When Hillary wins Massachusetts next Tuesday we will witness the waning influence of Ted and the Globe...
There will be a time and place I will be proud to elect Obama President... but not after 2 years in Washington...
omfg it was amazing being on campus today. I really REALLY wish that Bender was larger, I almost got in! I was about 100 people from getting in! The speeches were amazing, and the atmosphere was so charged up and ready to go!
WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!
So what. We should pay attention to a man who feels above the law? Frankly, my attention was diverted from the Kennedys a long time ago. Old news.
Bull , any edorsement by Ted Kennedy leads nowhere. The only thing Ted has proven is that he is a good swimmer
I find Barack Obama to be an extremely pleasant person. He's nice to listen to, too. I have always voted Republican, but honestly, it would be much easier to listen to a President Obama for eight years than a President Romney. Romney comes across like the goofy brother who serves as emcee at your parents' 50th anniversary party and keeps trying to entertain everybody with what he thinks is sparkling repartee, when everybody is just dying for him to get off the floor.
But back to Obama.... My problem with him is that, other than the qualities of pleasantness mentioned above, I really can't see what he's about apart from being a fresh face, a promoter of "change" (whatever that means, and he'd have to make up what that meant as he went along) and presenting an opportunity to many inwardly conflicted Americans to finally prove to themselves they're not racists by voting for a black man. That may be comforting to them, but in its own way it's a kind of racism - one hardly complimentary to African-Americans. Fact is, if Obama were a white man saying and doing and being everything he's saying and being and doing now - which isn't, to be honest, all that much - he'd be nowhere on the political radar screen. He'd be just a nice guy from Illinois serving his second year as senator.
All the same, if he does win it - thanks to whatever factors play a role - I can only wish the nice guy luck. And, for the sake of our country, speedy learning on the job.
Obama is a man of character, well educated and qualified, having ideas to
change the goals of the nation and will certainly take the nation out of the present
crises. It is my earnest desire to take active part in his election campaign.
Well, I used to think highly of the Kennedys. Past tense, thank you.
ALL HE NEEDS NOW IS THE ENDORSEMENT OF HUGO CHAVEZ AND FIDEL CASTRO AND THE TROIKA WILL BE COMPLETE.
Yaaaaa Barack! Booooo Hillary!
Elect Obama!!
Whether liberal, conservative, or anything in between, the concept of people who care not one bit for the borders of the U.S. and call themselves Americans, is a puzzle to me. I don't understand it, and I never will. For one thing, what did all of the young and other Americans, down through the years, die for. Some kind of utopian vision. I don't think so. They never had the chance to share in the blessings or again see the "place" they fought for. It makes me sad, very sad, that politicians and others want to throw it all away and make their sacrifice meaningless.
Right on Kennedy's
Ted Kennedy can't tell heaven from hell or blue skys from pain.
Oprah, Kerry, now the Kennedy's. Three inflential names that define powerful liberals endorsing Obama. One might ask, "What do they know about the Clintons that America knows, but seem to be in "denial" of?
Vote for those who will continue to allow foreign nationals to strip mine Americans taxes. Peace. Actually, I think that IS the Democratic Platform.
Hurrah for Caroline Kennedy. that is a woman with flaming balls.I used to know her mother, Jacqueline. I always referred to her as Her Elegance. I meant it in the ancient Roman sense of Dignitas. In some ways, Jacqueline Kennedy has always reminded me of Cornelia, the mother of the Gracchi during the Roman Republic.
Senator Kennedy and his son Patrick are both brave to go contre courant. The Senator has been called a lion n the Senate. Lions get old and toothless. I much prefer to define him a Leopard. They are one of the most adaptable of living creatures, contrary to that old aphorism that a leopard never changes his spots.
I am going to write an essay about Barack Obama on my blog.

Whats so great about a Kennedy endorsement? Kennedy talks about time for truth, that Bill Clinton fabricates the truth about Obama? That is like the Skillet calling the Kettle black. Have we forgot about Chappaquaddick and Marilyn Monroe? It's hard to believe a word Kennedy says.
It is obvious that Kennedy, Leahy, Kerry, congressmen of high stature in the Democratic Party, are all part of the old boys network. Kennedy is using the so called Clinton campaigning against Obama as an excuse for the fact that they do not want a Woman to be President. How can Obama be ready from Day One? I suppose Kennedy will be running the show in the background. He will at least be the President (in the background) that he never became. Caroline is 50 years old, and Hillary is 60. All these years what has been Caroline's contribution to society aside from awarding medals at the Profile in Courage award cereonies each year? In contrast, Hillary Clinton has spent her life from college to now fighting for children, women and men so that they can be uplifted. Ms. kennedy-Schlossberg should have taken the mantle of her father and even if she didn't run for President could have been more visible in her support for the common people.
You Americans don't know when you have a good thing going for you....Obama may be young and fresh...but isn't that better than old and stale ? and when old and stale Kennedy endorses young and fresh Obama then you have the best of both the old and young worlds....I only wish we'd had someone young and fresh and motivated for change in France for the last election then maybe we wouldn't have fallen for Sarkozys lies and self glorifying nonsense. If you don't want change or Obama then send him to us and we can vote him into our french government.
Don't throw away a good chance when you see it...vote for your coffee coloured
senator and let him have a go at changing what others have failed to change in the past. I just hope that if he gets in nobody shoots him...that would be like shooting both Kennedy and King at the same time.
I think there are many countries in the world that envy you Americans the chance to vote for change...elsewhere it's just politics business as usual no matter who you vote for.
Ms. Kennedy was a young girl with very little idea of what was going on in politics when her father was the president. She was a part of a family involved with the Kennedy dynasty family issues. I doubt very strongly that she should rely on what her children are inclined to do in politics. All of us come through the political door at approximately 17-30 years of age. At that young age we know nothing, like new faces, tend to disagree with the status quo without knowing why, and don't do the research on our political problems and candidates. Americans are inclined to choose whatever is sold to them: the marketing effort establishes what is to be bought next. Ms. Kennedy should be asking her children upon what information, and/or facts they base their Obama preferences. Her father was really good looking and had lots of charisma, but he was not the Presidential God that he has been made out to be. The tragedy of his, Martin Luther King's, and Robert's assassination was truly horrible for all of us: it ruined trust among Americans. We believed that politicians were supposed to be honest, ethical leaders: can anyone point to the Kennedy's as that? To which politician would you point your finger and say : "there goes the person what is truly honest, ethical, and a brilliant leader? Truth and facts speak loudly these days: unfortunately it happens far too long after the fact. Children should not be making decisions about our political future. Grow up Ms. Kennedy: you're no longer a child.
And Ten Kennedy has given way too much to public service: time for him to move on.
I think US have some leadership problems right now there is like a empty place to be cover for someone URGENT. It's like an emergency for leadership and the confusion is huge. Obama's times with Kennedy's times are so different. The youth in the 60's were so different than this new century young people. Now this generation have a different characteristics, I do not try to minimize the young people of this times, but 60's were so different in ideas, convictions, etc. At this times the new youth is helping Obama to get the power, but this people are correct, prepared enough to give the power to someone correctly? I doubt it but democracy it's not for perfect decisions and in democracy people could make huge mistakes. I hope I make a mistake saying this.
It is Bill Clinton that eliminated the National Debt, Not J.F.K. , Ted Kennedy, or even John Kerry especially after the Clintons campaigned for him. All are double dealers!
I am very very disappointed in you for supporting Obama...You know very well that he does not have the experience that Hillary . He may have some day, but not today. I hope that you rethink this, and decide that in fact you were mistaken. I am your age, and I have always admired you, and have been a loyal Democrat for many years. Shame On YOu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shame on you both,Ted you say you are friends with the clinton frienda do not stab each other in the back. Caroline ,you were just a littlegirl when your dad was in office. You are talking the 60 and the whole world was high . This is 2008 i thought I wish it was 1960 again at least dad had a job ,home and medical ins.,Obama seems like a nice man but he needs some time in the .senate. and he is no jfk m king and i heard them both and they were leaders . AND TO BE FIRST LADY OBAMA WIFE BETTER GET SOME LESSONS FROM THE FORMER 1ST LADY MY VOTE IS FOR THE BEST HILLARY GO HILLARY
I am so dismayed, and shocked, by your endorsement of Obama. Far from resembling John F. Kennedy under pressure, Obama blurts out some undecorous and strangely inarticulate remarks. He is a junior senator, and sounds like an undergraduate-- not at all "presidential." Pretty speeches read off a page from a podium won't do the job.
