McCain ads go after Romney

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor January 28, 2008 02:56 PM

The charges and countercharges are flying between John McCain and Mitt Romney on the final day before the crucial Florida primary.

McCain launched a web-only ad that uses the intro music from "Masterpiece Theater" to present "A Tale of Two Mitts," a compilation of video clips showing Romney's changes of position on abortion, fealty to the Republican Party, support for gun control, and other issues. The ad ends with the message within an elaborate frame that "Mitt Romney's flip flops truly are masterpieces."

McCain is also airing a radio ad criticizing Romney's healthcare reform in Massachusetts, his fiscal record in the Bay State, and his proposed bailout of the auto industry.

The Romney camp, in turn, accused McCain of following an m.o. of going negative in the final hours.

"Senator McCain has, once again, launched a last-minute, negative ambush against Governor Romney with radio ads, flyers -- you name it," Romney spokesman Kevin Madden said in a statement.

"This is just the McCain way," the statement continued. "Senator McCain always sinks to a lower level and offers distortions and flailing attacks against his opponents when a campaign is close. His agitation is always on display when a race gets close. If you ever needed proof that the Washington insider with the wrong record on Republican policies is threatened by the new ideas and strong record of Governor Romney, now you have it."

  1. I have reviewed bio info on both Romney and McCain on the internet. I think it is interesting we do not hear much about their academic histories including the fact that McCain finished at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy (and was said to have a hot temper) and Romney finished with honors at both undergrad (BYU) and with honors with dual degrees in law and business (Harvard). All around credentials prove who is the more fitted to be our president.

  1. McCain is so full of it. He was about to pop a vein when Romney ran a simple and civil comparison ad. Now he has sunken to new low even for a Washington insider. McCain is nasty and this Republican will not support him no matter what.

  1. Mitt Romney can not be trusted. He will say anything and pay anything to win. Just look at the debate, Romney cheated. Do you want someone dishonest and deceptive as our president? Don't believe me? Look at these 3 videos. Romney has someone telling him what to say. And yes, the prompts are in the original video feed. Romney's cheating tells us a lot about his character. I want a president that has integrity and Romney proves here he does not.

  1. 3/4 of the Republican base cannot stomach McCain and his so-called "straight talk." He has shown himself to be a liar over and over again, and accomplished NOTHING in 25 years as being a senator. Oh, but he did try to pass 3 pieces of liberal legislation.....McCain Feingold, McAmnesty with Kennedy, and McCain-Lieberman....that one will raise your fuel costs every year by $1000!!! Notice how NONE of these pieces of legislation were even with Republicans?????? Get smart Florida!!! Vote for the truthful one ....the one who can get things done. Mitt Romney!

  1. McCain went crying home when negative ads were aired regarding his "supposedly heroic" activities while in captivity when some of his fellow incarcerees said he did NOT have the stellar record he had claimed and that his actions hurt other prisoners of war in the camp. I do not know if those accusations were true or not, but I do know McCain's going negative on Romney in the final hours of this campaign while Romney has no opportunity to respond to them is really dirty politics. Romney is the man for the economy and he never has been soft on defense either. He is brilliant and "presidential" in his demeanor--a president we can be proud of>

    Let's compare the two:

Romney graduated top of his class in Harvard Law/MBA. He knows economics. Has a proven record turning around Mass. state budget, Olympics, Bain Capital etc.

McCain was known for boozing and womanizing at the military academy . HE GRADUATED 6TH FROM THE BOTTOM OF HIS 899 PERSON CLASS. HE'S NOT KNOWN FOR HIS SMARTS!! He has said himself that the Economny is NOT his strong suit and has said he is "reading Greenspans books" while MItt knows enough he could have written them.

Don't go for the negative ads and junk they are putting out. Vote Mitt Romney tomorrow.

    McCain

  1. With Arizona, Colorado and Oklahoma and shortly Indiana, Kansas and Missouri cracking down on illegal immigration, other states should do the same. Employers who break the law and hire illegal immigrants do not pay workman's compensation, unemployment insurance, state, federal or Social Security and Medicare taxes. Nor do they provide health insurance; instead, this burden is placed on taxpayers, forcing up insurance premiums. This situation puts employers who obey the law and pay all those expenses at a huge disadvantage.
Illegal employers also encourage identity theft and the use of fraudulent documents. All states will slowly deny social services to non-citizens. If we don't, only two things can happen. Either many poor residents get a smaller piece of the pie, or politicians will raise taxes to cover everyone.
Do we need higher health-care costs, higher taxes and larger, more crowded classrooms just so some businesses can exploit cheap foreign labor? Do you want your state to become a new border state?
    ONE LAST THOUGHT:
Vote for any presidential candidate who will propose "THE FAIR TAX". Everybody, and I mean everybody, who lives in America, will pay? The wealthy who skirts the laws to the tune of $12 trillion dollars hidden in foreign refuges, will no longer be able to cheat the middle class.
    VOTE FOR THE "FAIR TAX."

  1. We are not anti-Mormon, we are anti-Romney. We are just tired of his lies and flip flopping on the issues.

He lies about the lobbyists working for his campaign, he lies about his stance on the issues, and just lies about everything.

    Aaron Tippin song:

"He'd say you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
You've got to be your own man not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what's right and uphold your family name
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything"

    Please vote 4 Governor Huckabee
