McCain narrowly leads in Michigan, Florida
A new tracking poll released this morning shows John McCain with a narrow edge over Mitt Romney in Tuesday's Michigan primary.
The Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby survey, conducted Friday through Sunday, gave McCain 27 percent to Romney's 24 percent, within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
Mike Huckabee was third at 15 percent in Michigan, followed by Ron Paul at 8 percent, Rudy Giuliani at 6 percent, and Fred Thompson at 5 percent.
McCain, benefitting from a bounce after winning the New Hampshire primary last week, also holds a slight lead in a new poll in Florida over Giuliani, who has banked his presidential bid on a win in the Sunshine State on Jan. 29.
The Quinnipiac University poll, conducted from Wednesday through Sunday, gave McCain a 22 percent to 20 percent edge over Giuliani, within the survey's margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points. Huckabee and Romney were close behind at 19 percent, with Thompson in fifth at 7 percent.

I think Mitt Romney is honest, well educated, man excelle nt businessman. I do not know why he is always secind. John McCain is too long in the tooth for me a Veteran of WW 2. I am from MA and Roimney was a good governor. A wonderful family man. When are they going after Clinton and the Rose Law firm stuff ete etc etc.
Mitt is always second because he is a phony...he says what he thinks people want to hear rather than what he actually believes. He isn't long for this race.
Please tell me this previous post was a joke... Romney was an ineffectual, absentee governor, interested in only padding his resume for a presidential bid. McCain was a Vietman vet. Rose Law Firm? What are you....one of the Swift Boat supporters?
I think Mitt Romney is the candidate who can really win this election and bring positive change to the country. The last thing we need is a Washington insider like John McCain. Mike Huckabee is too soft on terror and more of a demoncrat as far as policies go not to mention the religion factor which should have no place in politics. Mitt Romney could actually turn this country around with good economic decisions and a tough stance on illegal immigration. Michigan should be listening to and voting for Mitt.
Given that McCain was born in 1936, I don't think he's WW2 vet. You're probably thinking Vietnam.
I agree , Mitt Romney is a great candidate. Despite some image problems, he really did get things done in Massachusetts and he's the one governor I can remember who did things that had significance to me. McCain has been a senator, and does not have the executive "get things done" experience Mitt has.
Romney was a terrible governor who cut taxes in the name of the "middle class", resulting in budget shortfalls for necessary services that affected cities and towns all over the state. He was out of the state campaigning for President more than he was in the state. McCain served in Vietnam not WWII. A wonderful family man or businessman does not necessarily make a great president.
What has Mccain done in Washington for the last 20 years? He has been there while they raided Social Security, went into Iraq without real proof, let planes hit buildings when we had the intelligence before hand and let the dependancy of oil drag our economy down. I would put my money on Romney any day!
I had the honor of meeting John McCain at a house party held for him in New Hampshire early last year. Let me start by saying that I have always been a firm Democrat did not have much interest in McCain. But after meeting him and hearing him speak, I have a whole new respect for him. He was a kind, intelligent, well spoken man. And although I may not agree with EVERY point of his campaign, he has strong well thought out arguments to support his views. I told him that evening that he may have changed my mind and I may be voting as a Republican for the first time in 20 years. He appears to truly love his country and want what is best for America. I always seem to get the feeling that Mitt has a hidden agenda and is on a power trip while McCain wants to do what is best for the USA
First, running a hedge fund, with a goal of extreme profits, has nothing in common with the qualities we need from a president. That is as relevant to good government as running a major league baseball team has been. Second, they will get to the Rose Law firm allegations after they solve the Clintons role in the Lindberg kidnapping. Close the chapter and deal with issues that actually are important.
Yeah, I agree with Bruce. Mitt's millions have done little more than convince voters he is a phony (whether he is or not) who will say anything to anyone to get elected. In Iowa he is the candidate of family values. In New Hampshire he talks mostly about his mangerial experience. In Michigan he talks mostly about how he is really from Michigan and how he would turn around the auto industry. The other candidates seem to have a more consistent message, and the nationalization of this race really exposed his strategy as flawed. He's also got to stop making stuff up off the top of his head -- like his dad marching with MLK and that his ads didn't call the McCain plan amnesty. If he doesn't turn things around, he is going to be out of the race, several millions of dollars poorer, AND have more negatives than when he started the race. What will he be left with?
I think the comment was posted by a WW2 vet and he is making the valid point that McCain would be the oldest person ever elected.
tricia, wow! you had the honor of meeting mccain?! no way! of course he's well spoken, of course he's intelligent.... he's running for president. think about it, how different would your description be had you met Romney insteaed? everyone gets that same "sucked in" first impression from anyone of them!!!!!!!! look into the issues... look deep into them and forget the image they paint with how well they speak...
i really feel and think mitt romney is the guy who is the real deal.
McCain will be so wrapped up in war( since thats his only quality for president). that sounds even more scary to me! he'll have to glorify his pride on knowing all about war only by keeping our economicly melted country drained of money and killing more people on both sides.
Romney is up 27% to 26.3% for McCan't in polls. Title of this article should be "Romney narrowly leads in Michigan, McCan't in Florida (21.8 vs. 20.3 for Rudy).
Check out realclearpolitics.com and you will see. Globe is only showing you poll in which Romney is down, reporting half the news as usual.
I'm so sick of the Romney supporters saying things like "he's the only one who can win in November." They're either blind or ignore the polls. The CNN polls released yeterday showed Mitt down 18 points to Hillary, and also showed him getting pummelled by over 20 points by Obama. McCain is within the margin of error behind both candidates. Just because you like him doesn't mean he's electable.
Mitt is the BEST man for the job. Pure and simple. McCain has had ample opportunity over manyyears to try to solve the immigration problem. He fails miserably on every count. He has failed in other areas of government, as well. Huckabee is a closet liberal waiting to happen. Mitt needs the opportunity to run our county like a corporation. We're tired of being bankrupt by socialist mentality.
McCain is actually behind in most of the Michigan polls. Even if he wins it will be because of democrats voting in the republican primary.
Romney is leading McCain in most polls and this will be a very very close race. If he wins, then Huckabee will be out of the race, having lost wyoming, new hampshire and michigan, he wont win south carolina.
I think this is a McCain-Romney race and it is sad to see them bicker so much because Romney supported McCain in 2000 if i remember correctly and McCain came to Massachusetts in 2002 to support Romney's election.

Romney should clearly be fourth in all polls. McCain, Rudy G., and Huckabee are all trouncing Romney in the polls.
Americans know a phony when they see one. McCain is the real deal.
During the Olympics, Romney showed that he is a man committed to getting the job done. Two incidents that happened during the Olympics:
1. My brother-in-law told me about seeing Romney sweating through the Atlanta airport lugging an enormous package of Olympic "stuff" to make a flight.
2. Salt Lake papers reported that Romney encountered a traffic jam on the way up Parley's Canyon, a major highway leading up to the bobsled venue...busses and cars in a snow-bound snarl. He parked his car and directed traffic and personally un-clogged the mess. Apparantly, in the heat of things, he none too gently yelled at a bus-driver, which was reported by the news.
I want someone who is going to see to it that things change!!! Romney can!
Romney looks like a slimy used car salesman. (Sorry to all the used car salesmen out there.) He's having a hard time contradicting himself. It appears as if he will say anything to win. For sure, if Romney gets the nominee then a Democrat will win. Honestly, McCain has the best chance of beating any of the Democratic Presidential Candidates.
Read the resumes ,Ron Paul is our most qualified candidate and with Clinton and Obama leading the Dems he's the only Republican that can probably pull it off. America needs someone who will rock the boat. McCains to wrapped up in his own little world to be an effective leader . ....or perhaps Romney he's actually a good man.
It's funny how all the Mccain supporters only want to talk about Mccain serving in Vietnam 40 years ago and not his attempt to give amnesty to 15 million illegal aliens a few short years ago.

Mitt's worst feature is that he's too good. Unfortunately the nation is unable to believe that he can be as good as he is so we don't believe it and dismiss him as being a phony. There's no way he can be as rich and good looking as he is without dirty laundry. I'm a father and I can only hope that I can be as good a role model for my sons as he has been for his. Thing is, he's for real. Take his "flip-flopping" for example. Real people change their minds about things, he's not perfect and makes mistakes. Here's where he gets unbelievable again. Mitt Romney owns up to his mistakes. What real politician would do that? It's political suicide. Can it be possible for a public figure to actually confess when he's made a mistake? Believe it. He's for real.
