Romney goes Reagan-esque

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor January 5, 2008 12:36 PM

Trying to buttress his case that he will bring conservative change to Washington, Mitt Romney launched a new TV ad today that his campaign is closing his closing message before Tuesday's New Hampshire primary.

"This isn't the time for us to shrink from conservative principles," Romney says in a speech shown in the ad. "It's a time for us to stand in strength. America must remain the world's superpower. If we will simply march forward, we can propel America's growth and prosperity to lead the world. Now is the time for us to lead a great coalition of strength for our families, for our future, for America."

The ad also has some of the sweeping rhetoric of Republican icon Ronald Reagan, whom Romney often cities as a model, and seeks to rebut rival John McCain's argument that he is far more experienced and knowledgeable on world affairs.

  1. Romney has so much experience and talent that he can talk about all issues with knowlege and hands on experience. He can reach into every issue and make sense of the challenge and the remedy. He is the whole package. He doesn't have to talk JUST about foreign affairs, or immigration, or economics. He can talk about all of them and has experience in all areas. Some candidates run on "a" strength (McCain foreign affairs, Huckabee religion) but Mitt Romney runs on many strengths. He has been in the race and at the top the entire year. There is a reason for that. He attracts the interests and knows the needs of the masses not just a specialize group. He will be the strongest, most effective leaders of all. His capacity for bringing change is real not just talk.

He has a record as a great leader in business.
He has a record as a great leader for the Olympics.
He has a record of bringing about positive change as a Govenor
He is a great example in the home as husband and father.
He is a caring leader in his faith.

Romney is the candidate fought against the most by other GOP candidates because of the record he holds as a leader. He has been a lead GOP candidate the entire year. McCain was in then out then in again, Huckabee was out and then in, Guiliani was in and now out. Fred was out, in and out. Romney is the real deal. Talk about being consistant....this year shows who has remained consistent in the minds of the voters. The other candidates are good in one way or another, but they lack the "depth" needed to run a nation. Even the media has tried their best to remove the truth from Romney's outstanding record and accomplishments. One man against them all.....such a battle to win.

  1. IT has been a facinating process watching how (unfortunately) name recognition seems to drive our political system. McCain and Guiliani got the early attention, but still show little substantial issue addressing. If you go to Mitt Romney's site, he has his 10 issues laid out (and has since the beginning of the campaign, unaltered). He simply stands for something and wants the country to be better.
I think that as his name become more and more familiar to those that haven't been following as closely as you and I, his strong leadership, ability to get something done, (as in the olympics or getting rid of the deficit in Massachusetts) will show. As a trump card he hasn't even played yet, he happens to have very strong family values.
He has taught his family to have values and respect of all, despite their wealth. Just meet some of his children to know how he and his wife have been committed to family while being successful in the business world (a difficult task in todays world)
