Romney ties McCain to Democrats

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla -- Mitt Romney began his final push in Florida today by hammering John McCain, saying three of his chief rival's main legislative proposals would have set America on a "liberal Democrat course."

Romney said the 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign finance law "hit the First Amendment" by restricting spending on political advertising. He said last year’s failed McCain-Kennedy immigration bill was an "amnesty bill" because it would have opened a pathway for illegal immigrants to become citizens. And he said a 2003 McCain-Lieberman energy cap-and-trade bill would have increased energy costs for the average Florida family of four by $1,000.

"If you ask people, 'Look at the three things Senator McCain has done as a senator,' if you want that kind of a liberal Democrat course as president, then you can vote for him," Romney said at a rally. "But those three pieces of legislation, those aren't conservative, those aren't Republican, those are not the kind of leadership that we need as we go forward."

The McCain campaign responded by charging that Romney's campaign "is based on the wholesale deception of voters."

"On every one of the issues he has attacked John McCain on, Romney was for it before he was against it," McCain's camp said in a statement. “He was for campaign finance reform, and even proposed taxing political contributions. He was for cap and trade, and even supported a tax that increased the price of gasoline at the pump. He called our immigration bill 'reasonable' and 'not amnesty.' "

The former Massachusetts governor also blasted McCain for reportedly considering running for vice president with Democrat John F. Kerry in 2004.

"Had someone asked me that question, there would not have been a nanosecond of thought about it. It would’ve been an immediate laugh," Romney said. “So, we are different. I’m conservative”

Romney and McCain are in a tight battle in Tuesday's primary, whose winner will have a leg up heading into Super Tuesday a week later.

  1. I voted Rebublican all my life until 2000. Anyone who thinks Bush has done anything worthwhile won't get my vote. FWIW, should one of the candidates step up to the plate and promise to indict Bush for war crimes gets my vote.

  1. There goes McCain - Lying AGAIN.

Romney was not for any of those things in the form that McCain proposed them. Legislation changes, and when McCain dropped the final version on us, it looked like Kennedy wrote it.

    Romney attacks using specific examples.

McCain attacks with assertions that are misleading and deceptive. Not surprising from someone who learned everything he knows about the economy by being involved in a savings and loan scandal - keating five anyone?

  1. Do your own research. McCain does have a record of agreeing with democrats on key issues. I'm pretty sure the dems would love to run against McCain in the general election because it's a win-win situation for them. Our economy is going to be in bad shape in the coming years so we need somebody in there who has a good grasp of economic issues. I was disappointed to learn that Gov. Crist endorse McCain. I understood that Romney supported Crist in the past. There must be a deal between Crist and McCain. I don't know. but I'm voting for Romney because considering the current situation we're facing, he's the best man for the job.

  1. Mitt Romney can not be trusted. He will say anything and pay anything to win. Just look at the debate, Romney cheated. Do you want someone dishonest and deceptive as our president? Don't believe me? Look at these 3 videos of the Florida debate and tell me Romney did not cheat. There is no denying it.

  1. McCain is a complete criminal liar.
He has a history of lying to the American people.

McCain says he is for tax cuts, but he voted against the Bush Tax Cut.
McCain lied. He is a liar.

McCain says he does not support illegal immigrants, but voted in favor of legislations that support amnesty plans.
McCain lied. He is a liar.

McCain flip flops within a 47 second time. The fastest and world-record holder.
He earned the gold medal for lying within a 47 second time.
He is the fastest liar. http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/04/mccain-flip/

McCain says, “He Has ‘Never Asked For A Single Earmark Or Pork Barrel Project’ For His State.”
    McCain lied about that also.
    http://thinkprogress.org/2008/01/06/mcca...

McCain lied about his infidelity that occurred in 1979.
He was still married and sleeping with another woman.
    McCain lied about that also.

Do you want a President who is an aggressive and traditional liar?

McCain can not be trusted with foreign affairs.
    He will lie.

McCain can not be trusted with the national economy.
    He will lie.

We must not put a liar in the White House.
We must not let a liar become the President of the United States.

  1. McCan needs to come up with facts! not hearsay.Romney has real points when pointing to McCains record. McCain seems to be more democrat than he is a republican. I wish they would focus on records!
Notice Nothing is said about Romney when he was in the Olympics, in the public sector, and they have to really digg distort his record as a Governor.
McCain will still won't talk about the Bush's tax cuts, he keeps talking about spending, but not why he voted against the tax cuts! you see he voted against the because he lack so much in economics.

I would propose that to have a strong military and continue in the war on terror we need a STRONG economy! to sustain and support the troops in harms way. That is a big piece missing in the McCain national security pitch.
Vote for Romney to take America into the future and make us the super power we were designed to be!

  1. McCain is too old to remember his position last week, let alone last year. Give him a cane and a hearing aid. There is not a chance in hell he can beat Hillary. Even his aged mother calls him a liberal democrat. Vote for a true conservative like Mitt, who knows something about fixing broken financial structures. McCain will continue in his foolhardy opposition to tax breaks.

  1. Cutting taxes without finding ways to cut spending isn't conservative, its just fiscally stupid. The Bush tax cuts did nothing to but line the pockets of the wealthy at the expense of the middle class and explode the national deficit. If you think otherwise, you're a sap. A true conservative cuts spending while he cuts taxes. Bush cut taxes and then started the costliest war in human history and doled out government pork at a record rate, not vetoing a single congressional spending item in his entire presidency. The result is record deficit spending, the weakest American dollar since the depression and a stock market that is in worse shape than when Bush took office

McCain has always fought to cut government pork spending. His record is clear on this. He is just not irresponsible enough to vote for a tax cut when nobody has offered a way to pay for it. He doesn't explain this on the stump because he would offend "conservatives" i.e idiots who don't seem to understand that there is no such thing as a free lunch

As for Mitt. He's nothing but a head of hair. Managing money isn't the same as leading a country. Moreover he is a ridiculous panderer. I can't wait for the Democrats to run clips of his governor debates espousing his liberal views to show what a flip-flopper he is. I oughta know. I voted for the idiot..

  1. I also urge anyone not satisfied with McCain or Romney to look up Ron Paul and see if he's an alternative for you. You may think he's not electable but it's only the mass media giving you that impression. Thousands and thousands of people are passionate supporters of Paul. If you want someone who supports liberty and freedom you may like Ron Paul.

Just because most of the media does not mention him does not mean he is not a strong contender in this race. Look him up, do your research and you will see what I, and many other Americans, are talking about.
