Two young actresses join Clinton team

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor January 14, 2008 02:14 PM

Hunting for young voters, Hillary Clinton's campaign announced today that two young stars of "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" has joined her sisterhood.

Actresses America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn will serve as national co-chairs of "HillBlazers," the campaign's youth outreach program and are both expected to campaign in Las Vegas this week, in advance of Saturday's caucuses in Nevada.

"This election is too important to stand on the sidelines, especially for my generation. I look forward to rallying young people to use their voices and get involved. I believe that Hillary Clinton can turn this country around," Ferrera said in a statement issued by the Clinton campaign. "I am confident she will be a champion for young women and men across the country."

Ferrera is best known as Betty Suarez on the ABC series "Ugly Betty," while Tamblyn is perhaps best known for the title role in CBS's "Joan of Arcadia."

According to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, the youth voter turnout rate in New Hampshire last week set a record, rising to 43 percent from 18 percent in 2004 and 28 percent in 2000. But Clinton's main rival, Barack Obama, won the lion's share of those votes.

  1. Good for Hillary. I'm tired of seeing Hillary get blasted on all sides. I do believe she is the best candidate at this time and hope she wins.

  1. This is great! I watched Tamblyn when she was Emily on GH! This is a wonderful thing she is doing to help Hillary! We can win this, and really "change" things!

  1. I'm so happy that these two actresses used their minds and hearts in endorsing Hillary Clinton for president. I hope and pray that more people will do the same thing. I believe that experience is the best key for change. When you go to a doctor to consult for every pain you have you always thought of the best one and the best one are those with length of experience and that's same thing in choosing our president. Aside from experience Hillary is combined with enormous intelligence.
All that she's saying has facts. And if I vote for Hillary It's like two birds in one stone.
Combining two intelligent minds is something. I'm so concerned about our economy and during the time of president Clinton our country is in surplus. Hillary is also a tough. If you really want a real change let's first of all start electing woman president womanwoman president

  1. I fought for the ERA - Equal Rights Amendment) in Indiana in 1972 and watched it go down even after we had gotten the super majority of the Congress and more than half of the states to ratify it..I am begging the younger women of America not to drop this ball until it has been caught. This ceiling HAS to be broken so we can all find our way...

Make History by working and voting for Hillary!!

  1. I second Ginny's message. I, too, worked hard to try to get the Equal Rights Amendment passed. In fact, I was one of four founding women of Mormons for ERA. We worked very hard to counteract the Mormon Church's strong fight against the Amendment. More than 10,000 names were on our membership rolls. We earned a lot of money and we managed to help pass the three-year extension; however, we lost in the end.

I believe the best thing that could happen to bring women into the mainstream of American politics would be to see Hillary in the Whitehouse. So many, many yourng girls and young women would acquired the self confidence it takes to
battle the status quo. Hillary can and will win if we support her. Thanks to America and Amber for participating in Hillary's campaign. They will make a difference.
