Bloomberg backers not giving up

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor February 8, 2008 11:53 AM

The Republicans have a presumptive presidential nominee, the Democrats are down to the final two, but fans of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg are still hoping he jumps in as an independent alternative.

A draft Bloomberg committee urged supporters today to sign an online petition urging him to run. Bloomberg, however, has sounded less interested in getting in the race and spending some of his billions, particulary after former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani endorsed John McCain.

"Bloomberg has about ten days left to make a decision whether to run or not – the people have about ten days left to encourage him to run," said Doug Bailey, a committee leader and Republican.

Deadlines are fast approaching to get on the ballot in key states.

"Mike Bloomberg represents an option outside of the broken two-party system in Washington. That option may be more important than ever -- but time might be running out. The American public needs to ask themselves if they want a candidate who has proven he understands both how the economy works and how a government can be run successfully. Bloomberg alone meets both tests," said Gerald Rafshoon, a Democrat and the other committee leader.

  1. i would like him to run so as to take some votes from hillary clinton. she will be the democratic nominee, as she gets everything she wants as did her husband. let us keep this vile, power-obsessed woman from winning the white house.

  1. McCain is obviously weak about the economy. He thinks you can spend on a war for another 100 years and still give tax cuts. He adds a new twist to the "tax and spend" liberals. He would spend without taxing. Figure that one out. Mike Bloomberg executive savvy is what we need. Visit www.uniteformike.com and sign the petition to draft Mike Bloomberg.

  1. A open statement to Mike Bloomberg

If you care about the country you must run. If you want the world's economy to stay afloat you must run and win. You earned your position in the only system in the world that would allow you to do so. It is time for you to get up off your ambivalence and serve your country.

  1. I believe the opportunity for Bloomberg has FINALLY shown itself. The Republican party is in disarray and the Democratic party is imploding. Polls have finally showed that the Democratic voters do not support the alternative candidate.

It has been shown that the kool-aid drinkers and latte drinkers can be overcome with some money in the state.

Obama comes across as weak and McCain comes across as a bully. They are both incredibly lacking on so many issues. There are now many demographics that can be grabbed. Now is the time. Run Mike Run.
