Clinton, McCain lead in national poll

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor February 1, 2008 04:36 PM

With the usual big caveat that national polls are far less meaningful than surveys in individual states, Hillary Clinton holds a lead over Barack Obama, while John McCain has a far bigger lead over Mitt Romney.

According to the Fox News poll out today, Clinton has a 47 percent to 37 percent lead over Obama and McCain has a 48 percent to 20 percent gap over Romney.

In hypothetical head-to-head matchups, McCain is statistically tied with Clinton, 45 percent to 44 percent, and with Obama, with the Illinois Democrat at 44 percent and the Arizona Republican at 43 percent.

Both Clinton and Obama would handily beat Romney, according to the poll, with Clinton holding a 50 percent to 36 percent lead and Obama a 51 percent to 33 percent lead.

  1. How is McCain handling his severe mental illness issues these days? is he under psychiatric care? Do we have any assurance that he will stay on his medication if he wins the Presidency of the US? It would be pretty horrifying if he just went postal one day or something.

"Most Americans need a president—not everybody, probably not the two of you," she said to me and her press secretary. “So you are free to vote on a feeling, on a speech, on a debate, you can vote any way you want. But if you’re on the brink of falling out of the middle class, if you’re worried about health care, home foreclosures, and all these other problems, you need a president that you really can believe in and count on to deliver." - Hillary Clinton

  1. John McCain would be an excellent President, unfortunately he his trying to win the presidency following the worst President in American in history, and he is a Republican. We will not see another Republican president for many years to come. The present administration has hurt more Americans and has destoyed the Republican party in the USA.

  1. Hillary Clinton is clearly the best candidate to lead this country.

It is very upsetting to see the media promote Obama.

They promoted George Bush too, and kept putting Al Gore down.

    Shame on the media.

  1. McCain is an angry war monger. All he knows is war. He fights his party, he fights his colleagues, he has a deep personal hatred born of years as a prisoner. He sings "bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran" like its a joke, but it reveals who he is, a man forever at war. Reagan and Bush 41 were hawks, but they didn''t joke about war. They were statesmen who understood their place in the world. They spoke softly and carried a big stick. McCain is forever looking for some kind of revenge or payback for what he suffered. That''s not leadership. It''s an obstinant sense of entitlement. He believes America owes him the Presidency. Well Senator, America doesn''t owe you more than it owes any other veteran.

  1. True conservative thinkers all support Governor Romney. For a small sampling, consider the following sources:

    - Laura Ingraham: "All right, I'm going to see your endorsement and raise you an announcement: February 12th is the big D.C. primary, I'm pulling the lever for Mitt Romney. No doubt about it. No hesitation." ("The Laura Ingraham Show," 2/1/08)

    - Lars Larson: "It's time for the GOP to pick a real Republican standard bearer. I've been keeping my powder dry on this question for months till I had the chance to talk to all of the potential nominees. I've done that now, and I'm left with only one conclusion. Governor Mitt Romney is the best choice for 2008." ("The Lars Larson Show," 2/1/08)

  1. The polls have meant nothing in this race, so why do you continue to cite them...?
Nobody is believing the media. We all think your behavior has been loathsome and treasonous during the campaign.

  1. Why don't you Boston paper does not want your former governer Romney be our president???
How could any moderates and liberals backs war monger McCain. McCain wants to bomb Iran and stay in Iraq for 100 years and promised for more wars. McCain says he wants interest rates to be ZERO out of complete ignorance for how interest rates affect the economy. I'd like to see him say that to retirees on a fixed income. McCain want 10 million illegal immigrants to stay permanently and legal immigrants who can vote do not support it. How could this country be secure if he is in power??? Mitt Romney is an expert in economics and finance and is the man we need as president.
If anyone can rescue the economy at this point, it would have to be Mitt. The US is $53 trillion in debt, that is $400K per household. The dollar is becoming useless and the Euro is now becoming the credible currency. Along with the national debt, most citizens are also deeply in debt. Tommorow the market is likely going to take a dump. If we don't have a good economy you can forget foreign policy, fighting wars, or healthcare, funding for top education. The economy needs to be front and center, not religion, steriotypes and other trivial things.
Mitt Romney's successful business experience, successful Olympic experience, and successful state governing success
set him above all other candidates. His vision of using economic strength to combat terrorist and his Apollo plan for energy independence are also set him above all other candidates.
He is a real leader who can lead American to build a strong economic and therefore a strong nation!
Hope American people will elect Mitt Romney, the only competent candidate, to be our president.

  1. John McCain grew up with the privilege of an admiral father and grandfather on navy bases. He graduated 894th out of 899 at the Naval Academy and lost five jets! Is he careless or what?

John McCain is one of the Charles Keating 5. Charles cost you and me, the taxpayer, $30 billion dollars and the subsequent failure of the savings and loan business.

You feel he is for the troops? He wants us to "let them win" with no time-lines.

Here is the same man in 1993 & 1994:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPyKpcivQYQ

He is all about the politics, not about America.

Wants to be in Iraq for a hundred years.

Has been heard rewriting (and singing) the lyrics to the Beach Boys tune Barbara Ann to "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" (YUP! - Youtube it).

Adamantly believes that General Petraeus roams around Baghdad in an unarmed Humvee (of course those who know first hand called this ridiculous and ignorant).

Admittedly knows nothing about the economy (YES, IN HIS OWN WORDS).

Has no problem infringing upon our right to privacy.

Thinks that Vladimir Putin is the president of Germany (IT'S TRUE - Youtube it).
