Clinton plays up populism, hits Obama
A day after Barack Obama toured a General Motors plant in Wisconsin, Hillary Clinton held a rally this morning at a GM plant in Ohio and brought a sharper, more economic populist message.
"Some days, it must feel like a perfect storm," she said in Warren, citing rising prices for gas, milk, and prescription drugs. She said hard-working families are like "a human ATM," but all the money is going out.
Clinton, who badly needs to win the March 4 primary in Ohio, also excoriated the Bush administration's economic policies as the country nears a recession, if it isn't already there.
"President Bush has signed a subprime mortgage on America's economy," she charged. Bush handed perks to special interests on a "silver platter," she added, "probably one made in China."
While China manipulates its currency and racks up huge trade surpluses, it sends tainted products to the United States, she said. "Our government doesn't do a thing to stop it," she said.
Clinton is outlining a plan to reign in special interests, taking back at least $55 billion per year from drug companies, oil companies, and firms that ship jobs overseas, and investing the money to lower the cost of college, reducing healthcare costs, and creating jobs.
She also stepped up her attacks on Obama -- and whether his inspiring rhetoric can deliver real help to struggling Americans.
"Now, over the years, you’ve heard plenty of promises from plenty of people in plenty of speeches," she said. "And some of those speeches were probably pretty good. But speeches don’t put food on the table. Speeches don’t fill up your tank, speeches don't fill your prescription, or do anything about that stack of bills that keeps you up at night.
"That’s the difference between me and my Democratic opponent," Clinton continued. "My opponent makes speeches, I offer solutions. It’s one thing to get people excited, I want to empower you."
Clinton also charged Obama with watering down a bill to please the nuclear industry and voting for an energy bill loaded with tax breaks for the oil industry.
That prompted a heated response from the Obama campaign.
"Barack Obama doesn’t need any lectures on special interests from the candidate who’s taken more money from Washington lobbyists than any Republican running for President. Hillary Clinton should tell the people of Ohio the truth -- she once bragged about helping to pass the nuclear bill she’s now criticizing Obama for, she came out with her plan for green jobs one month after Obama did, and she’s said she’d 'go after' people's wages if they couldn’t afford health insurance under her plan," Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement. "Senator Clinton may have said that attacks and distortions are the 'fun' and 'exciting' part of the campaign, but they’re exactly what everyone else in America is tired of.”
She just wants to win at any cost, doesn't she? If Clinton is the nominee as a result of superdelegates voting, I'm packin up and leavin this country. It'll mean McCain wins, and we get more of the same.

Hillary is talking. Obama is talking. They are using different rhetoric. One could make the argument that Hillary's "solutions" may not materialize, whereas, Obama - being the candidate of "promises" and coming across with great sincerity - will work for the American people until those promises are fulfilled.
It's the tone of a desperate campaign.

Go Hillary. Barack Obama has been given a free ride by the press and is marching on to glory with his charm and oratory. I not only want to feel good, I want results. How about a good paying job so that I can repay my fat student loan debt? Obama can knock the 1990's but I can remember when I had a choice to pick more than 1 job offer. Now companies have downsized, corporations have gone to India and China. I have confidence that Hillary Clinton can restore America's standing in the world and guide us in the road to prosperity again. Listening to Obama is like being in church at a revival. It only lasts for so long. Where's the beef?

At least we could have had some fees paid on duty free Imports to make up the losses in our SS and Medicare systems , but I guess that was not acceptable by the Multi-National lobbyists , hum ???

What will Obama do about this new issue in Kosovo? Talk the problem off? Hillary may know since Bill helped Kosovo from Serb atrocities. Vote for Hillary - she "knows" - she has been at it longer.
