Huckabee: Washington vote like Soviet Union
Mike Huckabee is pressing his case that he might have been robbed in the Washington state caucuses on Saturday, comparing it to the bad, old days of communism.
"This is not what we do in American elections," he said on CNN this morning. "Maybe that's how they used to conduct it in the old Soviet Union, but you don't just throw people's votes out and say, 'Well, we're not going to bother counting them because we kind of think we know where this was going.' "
Republican Party officials in Washington declared John McCain the winner with about 13 percent of precincts still out, even though McCain held only a 26 percent to 24 percent lead. Huckabee's campaign says it will explore all possible legal options.
"I was just stunned," Huckabee continued. "It's the kind of thing that Republicans across America, not just in Washington state, ought to be outraged over."
Huckabee won the other two GOP contests on Saturday, overwhelming McCain in Kansas and squeaking by in Louisiana, to keep his slim hopes alive.
McCain is trying to sweep the so-called Potomac Primary on Tuesday -- contests in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia -- to reassert control over the nomination.

If John McCain wins the Republican Nomination, I, who have been a right wing supporter for over 30 years will throw my support to whoever wins the Democratic Nomination. I will not support a liberal Republican for the Presidency of the United States of America. I believe he will ultimately allow terriorists to enter out borders by his relaxed postion on imigration. Nuf said!
I agree with Huckabee!
I watched the CNN and Fox reports all night and Washington just stalled out at 87%. I stayed up to the early hours and saw no change. The next morning, I still see no change except that everyones calling McCain the winner?
So McCain, with a lead of only 200 or so votes and and close to 2000 left to count they just stopped? Are you kidding me?
As a NY Giants fan, I can really feel for the Huckabee campaign on this one!
Thats like the refs picking up the ball with 3 minutes left and saying: "Ok, well the Pats are winning now, so lets just say they win and we can all go home." Meanwhile the Giants pull it out.
GO MIKE GO!!!!
Governor Huckabee continues to surprise!!! everone (except for those who have given him a fair hearing who are not surprised at all!
How hard is it to count 2,000 more votes! Finish the job and give the vote count.
Norm,
You won't vote for a liberal Republican but have no problem voting for a more liberal Democrat????? Give me a break, that's just what they want you to do!!! I am not a supporter of John McCain, I support Huckabee but if John McCain would get the nomination he would have my vote, not because I agree with him on all the issues but because he is still more conservative then the democrats!!! You'll be hurting our country by your vote because of your pride. Think about it.
I was outraged by the wreckless and unfair way Washington state handled the Republican votes. I was anxious to see if Huckabee won and they just stopped counting and left everyone hanging. I could not believe it.
How can they get by with that?
Why isn't the media hot on this? Had they stopped counting and said Huckabee won......the media would have been falling over each other.
DISGUSTED doesn't even touch how I feel about Washington state.
Mr. Wood, you're cutting your nose to spite your face. Read this article by Bill Bennett. I think you might be persuaded: http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YmI2YjE1Y2QxODI1ZGI1ZGNhNmQwOThlNWVlMmNlMTc=&w=MA==
There is something fishy going on in Washington state, to stop counting at 87% is ludicrous. I could see if John McCain was ahead by thousands and thousands of votes but he was only ahead by 200. This does seem like something that they would do in a communist country, voter suppression. Everyone should be upset about this not matter which candidate you support, this could happen to you..
I also heard that many unauthorized things took place during the caucuses, Huckabee supporters were refused the opportunity to speak about their candidate. This is not the first time Washington state has been involved with vote fraud..

I agree lets just declair mcain the winner of republican nomination... while were at it Obama seem to have the momentum on the democratic side we'll call him the dem candidate and since we all know the Dems will win the Whit House this time we dont even need to waste the time and money on a National election.. glad thats settled .
Oh now Huckabee gets it. How about Louisiana changing its registration deadline AFTER the final date had already passed and Ron Paul had the ONLY full slate of delegates? They extended the date and 3 candidates combined their delegates so they could beat out Paul. (all against the party's own rules!)
How about not getting invited to the FNC New Hampshire Debates even when others who polled lower in NH were invited?
How about getting less than 1/3 of the time of the other candidates in each and every debate?
Take a deep breath my fellow Americans, WE ARE NOT IN CHARGE anymore.
I AM A U.S. MARINE WHO JUST RECENTLY GOT OUT AFTER SERVING FOR OVER 13 YEARS.
THIS IS MORE THAN AN OUTRAGE!!!! WHAT WERE WE FIGHTING FOR? FREEDOM OR COMMUNISIM !!!!!
WHEN IS THE GOP PARTY LEADERS GOING TO STEP IN AND SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH?
ROMNEY ROBO CALLED BY THE MILLIONS TELLING AMERICANS THAT IT WAS A 2 PERSON RACE IMPLYING HUCKABEE AND PAUL DROPPED OUT, CHEATING AMERICA OUT OF THEIR CHOICES.
NOW OFFICIALS ARE SWAYING ELECTION BY NOT COUNTING THE VOTES!!!!!!
WE DO NOT WANT MCCAIN.
WE WANT HUCKABEE!!!
Nonsense. There aren't any votes to count. You guys have no idea what you are talking about. There's nothing 'fishy' going on. Slandering Washington State because of your ignorance just makes you look silly.
As a Washington State Republican delegate I must say Huck & Co have blown it entirely on Washington State. Nobody "won" anything. Any reports to the contrary are spin. You can't protest non-results. the so-called results are nothing more than a badly-done exit poll based on speeches within the caucuses. People who sign in and list their preference are NOT OBLIGATED to vote their preference. Most of them will go no further than the caucus level, and their preference does not count as a vote. In other words, their 'vote' (non-obligatory preference) goes no further than the caucus and does nothing to promote any candidate. I was selected as a delegate because the precinct captain (no preference) was busy and the other voter (a Ron Paul supporter) did not drive. the next level is the County Convention in April. Even here the County selects delegates to the State Convention. It is at the State Convention that pledged delegates are chosen to attend the National Convention.
So at the caucus level there are no votes to count. This is not something you can argue about. It's not a political point; it is a fact about the nature of the caucus organization in Washington. There is nothing to protest, and it looks very naive to do so. Huckabee remains clueless about the process, kind of like his campaign in general.
So get over it. Huckabee 'sending his lawyers to Washington' will be really funny when the Republican Party here finally manages to get it through their thick skulls that there is not a vote and Huckabee has nothing to protest.

As to Norm up there who is going to "throw his support to the Democrats" how ludicrous is that? You're a Suicide Conservative. What do you think Obama or Clinton will do about our borders and amnesty? Let me get this straight: You don't like McCain's stance on immigration, so you're going to elect a Democrat??? You don't think John McCain, with a lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union of 82.3, is conservative enough, therefore you will vote for Obama with a rating of 8, the most liberal senator of them all? Huh?!? Yeah, that makes sense!
Washington gets 49% of its delegates from the caucus last Saturday and 51% from the primary on Feb 19........does this mean almost all of the mail-in ballots are in (if 93% of the returns are in)? So does this total include both the Caucus and the Primary results? Just trying to figure it out.
It doesn't matter whether you are a Democrat or a Republican. The important issue at stake is: not counting 13% of the people's votes is NOT A DEMOCRACY. And the question is: are we going to do anything about it?
I didn't, and wouldn't, vote for Huckabee. But I am so glad he's not conceding WA. We MUST ensure accurate elections! Our Constitution has already been raped by the exec branch, but if we let them keep getting away with this, we're 100% screwed come November. I want good candidates, whatever their party, on that ticket. I want the candidates that my fellow citizens voted for on that ticket. Can you bridge the party affiliation divide, and stand up for health of our country's democracy?
Michael Schuyler: you are wrong, according to Chairman Esser's our account. http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/02/wash_gop_its_complicated.php
And "suicide conservative"? Hate to tell you, but your Conservative Party hasn't been very conservative lately. Government is enormous under Bush, our democracy all but totally dismantled, and $275 million per day on a bogus war--doesn't seem very fiscally conservative to me.

Michael..I have to disagree with you that "Mike Huckabee is clueless" about anything... . He's honest, doesn't cater to polls or the Washington politicians ..and he is winning.... Why: ? Because many Americans see him for what he is and not what people want him to be... or haven't you noticed. He means what he says and says what he means. In my opinion, he should be the one riding the "straight talk express." I still maintain that: If all the candidates started on the same level (money, etc.) Huckabee would have already wrapped up the nomination.. He presents a fresh face with new ideas and I welcome that. I am a military dependent and certainly have a place in my "being" for all the soldiers who have served our country...That includes John McCain. However, i believe that we need a leader in Washington who will actually lead the country and not be swayed by the whims of anyone. He's proven to be strong willed, yet tactful. We need that in our leadership. Go Gov Huckabee!!!!!!!
