In Worcester, Clinton on Super Bowl and Super Tuesday

WORCESTER – Hillary Clinton, neither a Patriots fan nor, these days, a Barack Obama fan, had gracious words for the former and stern words for the later at her rally at Clark University.

She congratulated the Patriots for “a historic season,” and for having “redefined the definition of winning.”

“But tomorrow we have another super contest,” she continued, “and tomorrow the people of New York and Massachusetts can be on the same team. I pledge to you, whether we are a Patriots fan or a Giants fan, if you vote for me, we will be on the winning team in November.”

As for Obama, however, she pointed out that she is the only one of the four leading presidential candidates who pledges she’d provide health insurance to all Americans.

“It makes no sense to me for a Democrat to basically buy the Republican argument that we can’t cover everyone,” she said.

And then this: “I heard my opponent’s going around telling people I wouldn’t make a clean break with George Bush,” she said before listing off areas of difference with the president.

And finally, she said, “Unity is important, but unity for what is more important.”

That was a jab at Obama’s theme of overcoming the divisiveness in politics. She listed off a variety of goals worthy of unity – a strong middle class, for example, but ended with a call “to stand our ground where we must, because not every idea is a good idea.”
