McCain ad hits Romney on fealty to Reagan

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor February 4, 2008 08:27 PM

After Mitt Romney launched an ad trying to link John McCain to Democrat Hillary Clinton, McCain retaliated tonight with a new national cable TV spot trying to de-link Romney from Ronald Reagan.

Romney has sought to convince Republican voters that he is a worthy heir to Reagan, but the McCain spot uses Romney's quote while running for US Senate in 1994 that he wasn't keen on Reagan to charge that the former Massachusetts governor was against Reagan before he was for him.

"If we can't trust Mitt Romney on Ronald Reagan, how can we trust him to lead America?" the announcer asks.

  1. Mc Cain 101 - Try to get people to look at other issues than his liberal ways. What about the Amnesty bill would you still vote for it. If you became President would you sign it? No thanks John why don't you just be a democrat since you champion their causes! Go MITT

  1. JOHN MC CAIN lost the debate as he first opened his mouth, the way he fumbled his words from the start till the end fighting and petty arguing thinking it was his way or the highway was totally wrong,he even appeared he may have been drinking? this should just go to show if he was involved with all the conflicts we have had how did Iraq or why so many troubles with this conflict?and to this end if Ronald Regan was alive he would by no means support him for president other then maybe a rumsfield type for Secretary of defense and nothing more? for the mere fact he supports part time Americans picking lettuce than the unemployed full time American? for the mere fact he used his power in the senate to delay the investigation that cost not only Americans but Californians and cost these citizens money for his sick and twisted benefit? I am sorry but Ronald Regan is spinning in his grave for him ever thinking he would support him?

    GO MIKE ,the best choice

  1. first off this ad is taken out of context and it's the same personal negative ads Mcamnesty would use, and to make it even more dirty this ad is released just a couple hours before the campaign tomorrow with not time for Romney to rebut. DIRTY TRICKS FROM A DIRTY POLITICIAN. Romney has never used such personal attacks, only attacking others on issues and yet McCain is desperate to garner support by releasing this on primetime right before super tuesday, WHAT KIND OF PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE WOULD DO SUCH A THING?
