McCain goes "Cougar" hunting

Posted by Sasha Issenberg February 2, 2008 11:49 AM

NASHVILLE -- Is John McCain making a Music City bid for John Edwards supporter John Mellencamp?

As McCain pulled up to a rally in a high-school gym here, an unlikely, new tune was pulsing out of speakers: “Our Country” -- Mellencamp’s 2006 nouveau-Guthrie single that received most of its play in Chevrolet ads and Edwards rallies.

Also in the McCain rotation today, along with the senator’s beloved Abba and Johnny Cash's "Get Rhythm": “Pink Houses,” from Mellencamp’s Cougar era.
