McCain on the air in Virginia, next big prize

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor February 6, 2008 02:14 PM

John McCain, trying to close the deal on the Republican nomination, is already airing TV ads in Virginia, the next big prize.

Of the three ads, which have run elsewhere previously, one hits rival Mitt Romney on his lack of loyalty to Ronald Reagan during the 1990s, a second brags about McCain's time as a "foot soldier" in the Reagan revolution, and a third boasts about his military record.

Virginia votes along with the District of Columbia and Maryland next Tuesday in what has been dubbed the "Potomac Primary." It has 60 delegates, the most of any contest before March 4, and it is winner-take-all.
