McCain reaches out to conservatives
John McCain, the all-but presumptive Republican nominee, told conservative activists this afternoon that he cannot win the presidency without "dedicated conservatives."
"I know I have a responsibility to unite the party," he said.
He acknowledged that he has had differences with many conservatives but said he hopes they will see that he has the record of a true conservative. "I am proud to be a conservative," McCain said.
He was greeted with enthusiastic applause, though he had skipped the group's conference last year and has been viewed with suspicion by conservatives. "It's been a little while since I've had the honor of addressing you," McCain said. "....Maybe we should do this more often."
McCain spoke to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington just hours after Mitt Romney used the same venue to announce he is suspending his presidential bid.
McCain called Romney "a great governor" and said he ran an "energetic and dedicated campaign."
McCain said he and Romney agreed to meet and figure out how to unite the party.

McCain is a Conservative? You could have fooled me. He is the one who toyed with changing parties. He is the one who opposed the Marriage Amendment. He is the one who opposed Bush's tax cuts. He was part of the "Gang of 14" who opposed Republican initiatives. He is the one who bragged about siding with Teddy Kennedy. He is the one who opposes border fences and serious immigration reform. He is the one who authored McCain-Feingold that silences free political speech. Other than the war, just how is he a conservative? And now he wants the support of conservatives? Never!
What are the odds of a McCain/Romney VP ticket?
McCain wants to unite the party? Which one?
Anyone but Hillary!!!
No more politicdynasties!!!
