Obama completes sweep, projections say

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor February 12, 2008 09:23 PM

Barack Obama apparently completed his sweep of the Potomac primaries, with projections that he won in Maryland.

He is handily defeating Hillary Clinton in Virginia and is projected the winner by NBC in the District of Columbia. Obama also swept five nomination contests over the weekend, also by wide margins.

In the Republican contest, John McCain was projected the winner in Maryland, adding to his victory in Virginia.

The polls in Maryland were scheduled to close at 8 p.m., but were kept open until 9:30 p.m. due to icy conditions.
