Obama responds to Clinton criticism
Barack Obama responded to Hillary Clinton's new line of attack that she offers solutions, not speeches like Obama, by arguing that she isn't in the "solutions business," but part of "business as usual in Washington."
"Now, all of us have proposed plenty of solutions in this race," he told reporters in Wisconsin. "On some we differ. On many, we agree. The problem we have is not a lack of good ideas. It's that Washington today is a place where good ideas go to die. They're the victim of petty, partisan politics, point-scoring, and special interest influence that's out of control.
"So the real question for this campaign is, who can change that?" Obama continued, according to prepared remarks provided by his campaign. "Who can break us out of the gridlock? Who can take those good ideas that will help working families in Wisconsin and across the country, build a consensus, overcome the special interests, and actually get something done?"
He is also holding a rally this morning in Milwaukee, where he is repeating his stump speech that the nation can't wait for change. Wisconsin votes Tuesday, with 74 precious delegates at stake. Obama leads in the polls, though the size of the lead depends on the poll.
Clinton also plans a campaign event in the state on Saturday. She told a rally in Ohio on Thursday that "speeches don't put food on the table," and took a more populist economic tack.

Seems to me that Bill Clinton has been putting a whole lot more than food on the table from his speeches. How 'bout them tax returns Hill and Bill? It's disgusting that there are Americans who are really struggling and hurting, and Hillary is playing these petty "school yard" games at the possible expense of these Americans. What American isn't insulted by Hillary calling her speeches "solutions" and Obama's speeches "promises." Clinton supporters cannot possibly be that ignorant can they?
The problem Obama has that he was only elected Senator in 2004. One year since then he has spent campaigning for President. What a conceited so and so. Obama thinks he has learned all there is to learn about how to get legislation passed in those three years or less. Who is he going to ask Michelle? HRC has Bill Clinton as an adviser. Obama first days in the White House will be spent trying to find the White House men's room nver mind who he needs to speak with in the Pentagon to get the country out of Iraq. Legislation change? It takes experience to get things done which this conceted man soes not have right now. BTW He CLAIMS TO HAVE BEEN A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER? What is that a Resume filler from when he was un-employed!!!
The question democrats should be asking themselves is, "Who has a better chance of beating McCain?". Obama can better take the independent and moderate republican votes than Clinton. We've see that in state after state. It's no coincidence that concern within republican party is proportional to Obama rise as the democratic nominee. I'll be you any money if Clinton is the nominee, McCain will win in November by taking all of the south including Florida as well as Ohio with a total of 52% of the national vote.
Obama is the best!
Barack "Hussein" Obama might have more to talk about shortly. The Rezko case will be presented on March 3, 2008 and as time goes by--maybe will Barack "Hussein" Obama as well.
Great Time to get the popcorn ready for the Rezko case trial starting on March 3, 2008.

VOTE - HILLARY CLINTON - PRESIDENT!!!
American's True Presidential Leader!!
President!!
HILLARY is the about business of America and the improvement of quality of life for all people.
HILLARY is experience and she is ready to do the presidential duties on day one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
My prayers go with you, Mr. Obama. You are a breath of fresh air, a brilliant and good man, a leader. With you as President of the United States, the whole world will benefit.. As an added bonus, it will be wonderful to have such a smart, elegant and elequent woman as Michelle Obama in the White House.
I wish you a fair wind at your back.
Obama is God's Man for such a time as this John
Hillary Clinton is the best thing that can happen to this country in the next for years for the best 8 more years, her husband straightened out this country, and she can do it for a second time.
With all due respect Barack Obama is also great but he does not have the experience that the Clintons have which is what this country needs someone strong in international politics and economics.
Hillary Clinton would be the best choice to clean up the mess George Bush is leaving behind.
I saw Obama in Milwaukee one hour ago... and came away very impressed with his plans. It was not all hope and dreaming and "Yes We Can," but some very solid plans for how he can better our country.
We wouldn't have voted for Hileria for President anyhow.
Hillary Clinton is all about slicing and dicing the electorate into so many groups ripe for micro-pandering. That's not what leadership is about. I have 10 people working for me and I don't know what they do all day. Rather leadership is about inspiring people in a general direction.
Hillary is saying "elect me because I'm a woman." Margaret Thatcher never did that. She was a leader, and if Hillary were a leader like Thatcher I might be voting for Hillary.
Hillary is a political robot, not a leader. Many women support her because she is a woman, which is piss-poor reason to support anyone. Men see this and react in ways that seem mysoginistic.
Whatever the case, all of it starts with Hillary's "elect me because I'm a woman and I'm entitled" basic pitch.
Barack Obama will be a good leader. Hillary will not. That's why people respond to him.
Obama was right.You cannot solve any problems if you have insummountable impediments such as the special interest lobbist in the way.As long as Clinton gets her campaign funds from these special interest groups,she cannot claim to be the candidate for solutions.What solutions could she possibly achieve when she wines and dines with same groups that are creating the problems we are in today?I will advice fellow Americans to learn to think for themselves and analyze the positions of these candidates objectively.A lot is at stake in this election and we cannot afford to pick the wrong candidate.Clinton will suffer an easy defeat in the general election.The last thing we need in this country is to have John Mccain in the white house.
He plans to change Washington? How?
Everybody keeps talking about Obama making changes, is he really that popular in washington. Because to me to be successful you need friends in congress who back you both on the democratic side as well as on the republican side. I know Hilary has a lot of critics and naysayers, but she is a tough fighter for her beliefs. I am undecided on who I should cast my vote for,because I do not know who is the better choice, an old seasoned politician whose been scrutinized more than all travlers in an Isareli airport, or a young politician with not as much experience, but less political baggage than his opponent, and a mission of hope and change. I would like to see both thier proposed plans for our country going foward before i make my decision in the PA. Dem elections
Based on using the actual tax tables (see link below), here are some examples of what the taxes were/are on various amounts of income for both singles and married couples. So let's see if the Bush tax cuts only helped the rich.
http://www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html
Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008
Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250
If you want to know just how effective the mainstream media is, it is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever.
If any democrat is elected, ALL of them say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen.
This is like the movie The Sting with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know what happened.
But God, are the first words that came to me after thinking about what I should write as my committee. My comments are a combination of what the two presidential candidates running for the seat in the White House have already stated. Who will get the job done, who will stop the American people from suffering and stop the rich from getting richer while the poor is being murdered, while this world watches? We can go to space and we have brains enough to invent the Internet but we cannot stop crime, feed our people, provide health care and allow all people to enjoy life (as the rich does). Michigan is now the number states where the hard working people are losing their homes and self worth. Michigan has been my home all my life and now I can see what my parents were meaning when they talked about depression and people going hungry and homeless. Our young people are dying and our old people are losing everything that the young people are dying for. Someone is robbing us while we as a nation are looking right straight into his or her eyes. Eyes don’t lie, when I look into the eyes of Hilary I see a women who wants to make a difference and to make history and she WILL do her BEST to FIX this MESS. And when I look in the eyes of Obamam I see, a man of great character, hope and honesty. But when I look into the eyes of America I see selfishness, oneness (the I illness), and the bigger killer of them all JEALOUSY. Until, we a individual people put down hatred and anger and pick up love and respect for all people, it wont make a difference who’s in the calling the shots, it just wont work. I really thought I knew the best person to vote for but now I am not even sure anymore! I will vote because my ancestor fought for those rights and I will vote because it is my duty as a citizen of the United States. But God
Carolyn HHH
Yes all you doubting Thomases. Hilary has all the solution and she cannot run a campaign all by herself. She needs her husband and daughter and still she cannot outnumber the sizes of the crowds that Obama get in his gathering.
What a good strategists and leader. You see for so very long you all Americans were relying for Washington to think for you, that you really cannot come out of that bondage and start the process of thinking on your own.
Obama, has all that it takes to make America one that we would be proud of.
To JR -- by saying i dont know you to power brokers, special interest groups and lobbyist.. very simple. It takes balls.. doesnt take an einstein to figure who got that :)
Freddy giroski, so people who do social work aren't neccessary is that what you're trying to say? Besides being a total ass, you're just plain wrong. Obama went to Harvard, graduated top of his class, became the president of the harvard law review, taught constitutional law for a decade in chicago, was a state senator for 8 years before becoming a US Senator. He worked with communities on the south side and improved the lives of many of it's residents. He has way more experience than you and deserves just little credit, you don' have to vote for him, but the least you could do is not be such a jerk about it.
What are you not understanding about his level of experience, so because he's never been married to a former president that means he has no experience. He has plenty of experience and twice the intellect of Hillary Clinton.
Andrew and everyone who wants to know Obama's plans simply go to his web site. It has his agenda and how he plans to get it done on all the most important issues. If you don't like him then do not vote for him but read what he has to say about it not what Hilliary says. http://www.barackobama.com/issues/
I think and know that Barack Hussein Obama will be announced as the next Democratic party presidential nominee 2008 becouse his personnality and character cut across all racial and special interest groups in today's America rather than the power hungry and addictive Clinton who thinks giving Bill the ''best sex of a life time'' could possibly earn her the expirence in both domestic and foreign affairs. Besides why is she so much bent on her husband's prevoius victories? Do we mean to say that the people of America are so blind as to see that an individual can only run for the Oval office for two terms and Bill has already done that! So what is Hilly-Bill doing on the stage?
Desperate times calls for desperate measures on hillarys behalf. Only in America can a clinton lie and be the victim at the same time. We are starting to see what her 35 years of experience looks like and so far history sucks and only a clinton can re-write history if it sucks.
Arrogance, as if it were his alone, is one of the weakest attacks Clinton supporters hurl at Obama. Yes, because Hillary and Bill are extremely humble, right? Running for president takes a certain level of hubris. Obama's ego reads correct to me. Understand the difference between confidence and arrogance. It is a thin line and easy to miss if you are angry, scared or otherwise only wishing to see the world as your have prejudged.
As to how Barack will change Washington? If you're sincere in getting the answer to that question, there are plenty of resources that will give you that information in great detail. Start with his website, then check out his books and if that's not enough, see him in person (if you can get in).
And the experience question really goes back to something Barack said early on, "No one had more experience than the Bush cabinet back in 2001." Judgment matters. The ability to communicate and inspire matters. Working with others matters.
As an outsider, i find the democratic presidential race very, very interesting. Here is one lady, who is changing her positions just like a camelleon changes color to suit invironment. And here is a young brilliant senator, consistent in his message and inspiring, but with an uphill task of going against Washington, a group he has belonged to for some years! And today: "I am offering solutions, he is offering promises. Speeches do not put food on the table, speeches do not solve problems." Bingoo! So, there are some speeches that are solutions, and others that are only promises. A goddess has taken stage on American political scene. She only has to speak, and there come solutions! Anyone who doubted Obama's words: "Folks, they are not telling you what they mean!!" I thought, since i am an ordinary person like Obama, that both candidates were giving promises! But, one, who is a goddess, her words are solutions, the other is only making empty promises! Wooow, desperate people can say desperate things!!!
Voting for Obama is your only hope.
Don't you feel the winds of change?
Don't you understand that there are no more choices to be made?
You are for that change - are you not? Yes? Good...
Then there is no conflict here...
There is no contest here...
When the time comes for change you can move or be moved.
Whichever way - Obama's in and the old fascist ways are out...
Eureka!
"Obama continued, according to prepared remarks provided by his campaign."
I'm not from Boston and don't typically read the Globe, so I hope this post is from the OpED section, otherwise this was the most editorialized way to say (and impossible to prove-- unless the writer refers to the fact that the *transcript* of this response to Hillary's criticism was actually *provided* by Obama's campaign to the press, in which case, the way this is worded is completely misleading).
First of all I'd like to say that the following is so much hay about nothing. I mean, the indictment of a donor to a campaign--- although huge sums may be involved-- do not equal malfeasance or impropriety by the candidate. I do not believe that a candidate can be responsible for every donor's business dealings no matter how "friendly" or how much financial and political action the two parties may have had. Think of how many hundreds of thousands of people are donating in these campaigns. Are the candidates supposed to run background checks on each donor? Are they supposed to get secret service to investigate business associates? Of course not. Oh and by the way, I'm talking about Hillary's indicted donor--not Rezko. But I suppose what's good for the goose is good for the gander, no?
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/2007-12-04-hsu_N.htm
Let's cut the crap. These donors are not evidence of impropriety by either candidate. Now that you see "yours" took more money than "mine" maybe you'll be more eager to acknowledge these controversies for what many of them are: hooey.
Sad that Hillary, holding on to a straw, has to grasp at nothings except for debate threats. In the spirit of Obama, I will not say a mean thing about her but rather of her practices. Obama's strategy is to garner the support then focus on the key issues, which btw, is outlined in his book. Hillary does not stand a chance as she lacks that human connection - that 'X' factor. She uses people to get what she wants. Case in point: Patti to get the Latino vote and now that has been somewhat established - out with Patti; in with Maggie. BTW: why doesn't she pay that kid in IOWA the money her campaign owes him for cleaning their campaign head quarters. Hillary - this campaign - this election is about people not you.
"BTW He CLAIMS TO HAVE BEEN A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER? What is that a Resume filler from when he was un-employed!!!"
No editor of any law review of any acredited law school anywhere has EVER needed resume filler or been "un-employed" (unless willfully so). Certainly not anyone who went to Harvard Law and graduated magna cum laude. Only the top 1% of law students are even considered for the honor. Your ignorance is abundant Freddy.
Obama has held elected office since 1997. Clinton has held elected office since 2001. Obama has held office at state and national level. Clinton has never held office at state level. Obama attracts support from right and left, rich and poor, black and white. Clinton polarises the country; Republicans will fall over themselves to paralyse a Clinton presidency, as they did before. Obama has a better chance to get things done. What's more, Obama, and his campaign, are honest. Americans can see the difference.
ditto Robert! Very well written.
Voting Hillary is being blind!
LET 'S FACE THE FACTS, OBAMA IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN BRING THIS COUNTRY TOGETHER AND MAKE THIS COUNTRY AT PEACE WITH ONE ANOTHER!YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH THAT AND WHY TRY!!OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!! U GO BARACK....
Please vote with your head and not with your heart. Just think, we wouldn't be talking about Mr. Obama if it wasn't for that ONE great speech he gave at the democratic convention. Nations like BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India & China) are catching up or already there folks. We need someone with experience. Go HRC.
It is time for a change. A vote for Hillary Clinton gets you a package deal - Hillary AND Bill. They are power hungry and celebrities. Enough of the Clinton soap opera - same ol same. Change is needed now and for the young people to guide our country in the future. Barack Obama is the best choice for a step in the positive direction.
Yes to # 23. And remember the constituion does not require any particular set of experiences (or relationships) to be qualified for president. Yes to #1 it is semantics, 'solutions' vrs. 'promises'. Remeber also that is is congress who makes the laws, the president sets the tone. All of you who think there need to be a 'network' of those in Washington remember the power is in the hands of 'WE' the people. The presidency is a position of LEADership. Sen. Obama certainly has demonstrated leadership among the people. BIllary put the crown down! Please people vote democracy not dynasty.
When I hear Hillary Clinton speak, waht I get from her is she wants to "WIN" and she will do anything, bar nothing to "WIN". Barack Obama, on the other hand, impresses me as a person who is really tired of this political gutter that this nation has been in for the past few administrations. I believe he's sincere and I believe she is not. Hillary Clinton in the White House is the last thing Americans need. All this talk about experience...experience is important, but if your motives and ethics are questionable then where will experience get you? What we seek is a Kennedy-esque leader with fresh and new ideas who truly wants and BELIEVES that he can effect positive change. That leader is Barack Obama. I was proud to cast my primary vote in Maryland for Obama and will vote for him to beat McCain in the general election. In January, I will be in the crowd watching as President Obama is sworn in. I own a small part of this campaign as one who has supported, prayed for, contributed to and voted for the only one who can fill the Obama-shaped hole in the oval office. GO OBAMA!
The Clintons are not in the promises business because every promise they ever made they broke. Have we so soon forgotten the Clintons' years in the White House? Hillary's 1993 Universal Health Care fiasco, the Defense of Marriage Act, NAFTA, etc. Folks, if you have nostalgia for the Clintons or are somehow most comfortable with the Clinton brand name - it's time to have your head examined.
Just one question,or two, or more.
When did the popular vote of the people become so unpopular?
When did we give up the right to make decisions for ourselves and leave it up to "Party Politics".
Why is it that a true "working man or woman " can't seem to be elected in this country?
Why is it that millions of people are losing their homes, going without healthcare, losing jobs to overseas companies, dying for lack of the chance to visit a dr. and still we sit back and do nothing?
Why is it we complain about immigration yet we think the jobs they do are beneath us? How many Americans are willing to work for minimum wage?
Instead of funding elections, wars , and rebuilding foreign countries , why aren't these monies being used to help us keep our homes, keep our jobs, get healthcare for our uninsured, feed our hungry.
Didn't someone once say "Charity begins at home".
We don't want charity but please people don't you think its time we started keeping AMERICAN tax dollars in America to help Americans first.
which candidate "promises" to do that , to take care of home first?
America was once a country capable of DREAMS, how many of us get to live that dream?
Today we are unemployed, over taxed, underinsured, homeless,addicted,and hungry.
Who will come to our aide?
Finally , does our vote really count , or is an election just a front for "Party Politicians " to quibble and fight over what they want instead of what the American people need.
Lots of Americans over 65 are forced to retire every year, wanting to or not, because its said they arent effective in the workplace, why is it most Politicans are over 65? If our young people are the future (65 and under) why are so many of our leaders keeping the status quo, instead of listening and bringing about change that represent this and the next generations ideals? Why aren't monies spent on elections and overseas used here to improve their education? Make sure they are healthy and fed?
I was taught in school that we came to the New World to escape persecution for our beliefs, freedom of religion, to get away from excess taxation,and to have a better life. Our taxes go out of control every year, (if were not "big Business"), our different religions condem each other constantly(what ever happened to seperation of church and state), and way to many of us are far to concerned about what our neighbor is doing in the privacy of their own bedroom for this to be considered a better life.
I'm proud to be American, believe it or not, and i would give my life to protect Her,
your right to disagree with me, our right to vote, and your right to love whom ever you want, but don't you think its time for someone to ease the load on our backs, for the average joe to get a break on his taxes instead of the "Big Business Gets It All" attitude we seem to be dealing with these days, to make us believe tommorow is going to be a better day so we can rest tonight, for the American government to help the American people keep, rebuild or start living that dream again? Isn't it time ?
I know I'm preaching, but put yourself in my spot, yesterday I watched as a hard working family with children that has lived across the street from me for 15 years were FORCIBLY evicted from their home due to forclosure on a loan that was taken out to pay medical bills on a child with a terminal illness because an insurance maximum had been reached. Is there a maximum in premiums we pay before its free?Just one of them had lost their job a few months ago, (it was outsourced)their loan had huge Prepayment penalties , so much so that they couldnt refinance based on their income and the value of the home. Who helps rebuild their dream? Bush? McCain? Clinton?Obama?Which one of our great politicans will write them a check ? Which one will help them find housing?Which one will make sure they are fed and warm tonight? Which one will take the time to make sure their dying child is comfortable untill its over? Which one would do this if it were YOU, your SON OR DAUGHTER, MOTHER OR FATHER? I'm heartsick , angry and outraged that this is happening in AMERICA, today and everyday. I'm even more ashamed because I couldn't do a thing to stop it. . I firmly believe that United We Stand, Divided We Fall, how much more divided can we get? My grandmother once had a saying about blowing smoke with golden straws up someones nether regions, I think its time we take away politicans straws and remind them whom they are supposed to be working for . When asked if I were Rebublican or Democrate when I went to vote last week I thought a minute then replied " I'm an American", Untill yesterday I believed we all were. I firmly believe that United We Stand, Divided We Fall, how much more divided can we get? How much farther will we fall? Most importantly, who will help us up when we go down?
It's very sad to see how imdividuals are unable to separate facts from friction.
The president of the United States role is not limited to this great nation alone
but by servicing worldwide as a decision maker.Everyone can argue and be passionate about their candidates without any doubt,but one fact remains our
country is in the verge of financial collapses no matter how you look at it. If we want
to retain the title as Super Power therefore, we need to elect someone capable of dealing with challenges and incertainty.
Take a good look at our actual situation and be realistic.Stop being emotional, we are not in a good stence on social issues pertinent to our children and ourselves.
The reality of it is very simple, be careful who you vote for the presidency.
Your vote will be final,it will take you four years to do something about it.
Once you're able to separate your emotion from reality you'll make the right choice.
When Clinton left office it was indeed a budget surplus.all of a certain nothing count. It's very sad
The biggest problem with Hillary's campaign is that it's predicated on negativity and assuming Americans are morons. Her main argument is "Listen to me! I have experience! Don't be fooled by this pied-piper!" She acts like any Obama supporter is an idiot who hasn't read up on him. And she acts like Obama just says pretty words and doesn't have any ideas. Not true. He does. Not to mention, where is this so-called experience? I'm sorry, but being the President's wife doesn't amount to a hill of beans. And taking credit for things your husband did isn't very feminist, is it? Why doesn't she talk about things she did as Senator of New York? Because that involves voting for the war and selling out the left any time it was politically expedient of her. Remember, leftists. The Clintons have NEVER been on your side.
