Senate intelligence panel head backs Obama
Barack Obama, fighting back against a new TV ad that questions his standing as commander in chief, announced this afternoon that he has the endorsement of Senator Jay Rockefeller, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Rockefeller, of West Virginia, cited Obama's opposition to the Iraq war and warnings about how it would distract the country from the war on terror in Afghanistan. Like Hillary Clinton, Rockefeller voted in 2002 to authorize the war and has since said he regrets it.
"As Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I am all too aware that the threats we face are unconventional. They are sophisticated. They are constantly changing and adapting. And they are very serious," Rockefeller said in a statement issued by the Obama campaign. "What matters most in the Oval Office is sound judgment and decisive action. It's about getting it right on crucial national security questions the first time -- and every time.
"The indisputable fact is Barack Obama was right about Iraq when many of us were wrong," added Rockefeller. "It was a tough call and the single greatest national security question, and mistake, of our time. Today, we remain a country at war, and countless mistakes over the last six-and-a-half years have made us less safe. The stakes have never been higher, and that is why we must take a stand."

Senator Rockefeller's strong statement of support for Barack Obama. underlines the enormous error HRC made in supporting the war and voting to allow the bombing of Iran. She has also made self-defeating decisions in her failing campaign. Her votes have put heavy tarnish on the hopes and dreams of the American People, with George Bush, burdening the young for decades to come with the economic burden they have wrought..
Why does it seem that Obama's support comes from politicians, business leaders, artists, social commentators, feminists, women and men on the right side of the belll curve, people that one would aspire to be like, and Hillary's support comes largely from those on the left side of the bell curve and political hacks?
Thank you so much Senator Rockefeller for taking a stand for truth and recognizing that Senator Obama would be the best leader among the presidential candidates to secure our safety and moral leadership in the world.
I believe Obama is trying to collect (and so far, it looks like he's succeeding) way to much credit for his stance on the war. He is claiming "the right judgment" for something he didn't have any responsibility for. It's one thing to be working in the senate, be presented with intelligence, debating with fellow senators and having to actually cast a vote during uncertain times, and it's a totally another to present an inconsequential argument. None of the arguments he has made against Irak were foreign to the senate at the time. And this issue was both subtle and of enormous importance at the time.
Now, he's arguing for a preset withdrawal date because one "needs to send a clear message to the Irak government". Well, the senate's approval to go in was following the exact same logic - a clear commitment that unfortunately had to be followed with action.
Obama is a very skilled politician and he's managed to convince many people of a supposed sense of fairness and honesty, but at the end he's playing the exact same game as everybody else, in a very hypocritical way at that.
John McCain is becoming a figure of ridicule before our eyes. As gaffe prone as Romney. This whole thing is a joke. A man who is 'tongue-tied' and can't think on the spot. I wonder who that remind me of???
Watch him singing Bomb Bomb Iran.

Early in the cycle was a HRC supporter, but as Barack came on realized he is the superior candidate. At one point vowed that I would support either democrat winning the primary. But now, after observing HRC reincarnate the three faces of EVE and Sybil and then culminate in the "kitchen sink" tactics, I certainly would not want her as Commander-in-Chief. McCain is looking better as an alternative. Hope the super delegates step in soon to halt this silliness.
The Democratic Party's establishment is lining up behind Obama.
As Dandy Don Meredith used to sing on Monday Night Football, "Turn out the lights; the party's over...."
Hindsight, Insight and Foresight. Senator Obama has demonstrated that he has superb Insight and superb Foresight to be able to make wise intelligent decisions regarding important leadership issues affecting today's world. Senator Clinton, Senator McCain, and President Bush have clearly demonstrated that they only possess Hindsight. They all made the critical mistake of invading a sovereign country based on lies, not facts. That lack of Insight and Foresight has cost this country dearly. Hindsight is the ability to look back , only after realizing that you have made a huge mistake. That's why Obama is our best choice as Commander and Chief at this critical time in the history of the United States of America.
how can HRC voted WRONG on the war... and yet expect us to vote for her? that part of this whole thing just never makes sense to me. how can you be WRONG about a 2+ TRILLION dollar war that has KILLED 4000 OF OUR MILITARY people... and still say "vote for me, i know what i am doing..." ?
she got it wrong... and now she should concentrate on not getting it wrong again, and support someone who didn't get it wrong. i think we all know who that is.
What amazes me is the constant mention of BO's speech he gave opposing the war. For Goodness sakes...in his IL. district, it would have taken more "guts" to be "for" the war. He was being and saying what he needed to to win in that district. That particular district was very "anti-war", so why all the praise.....
BO is very gifted in oratorical skills for sure. His campaign style is much like that of Ma. Gov. Duvall's style. Gov. Duvall also based his Senatorial campaign on "hope". It played very well, and he won. He has since been very ineffective, and he's working with a Democratic House.
Too bad HRC isn't as new, shiny, and flashy as BO.
BO has paid the superdelegates considerably more money than HRC. Check out one of the links on opensecrets.com
BO has lobbyists working on his campaign just as the other candidates do.
BO takes money from other employees/friends of lobbying firms, although not from "registered" lobbyists....same difference.(influence)
BO has actually taken more money from the drug companies than HRC. John
Edwards pointed this one out to us.
So tell me....What makes BO "Not" Washington as usual???
I notice at the end of some of BO's speeches, he does say "God Bless America", but on others, he doesn't. hmmmm....
Once he gets to Washington, the great speeches will cease, the Republicans will not agree to any of his ideas. What will he do? Try to charm them as he did his sycophantic followers???
Since Minister Wright calls Farrakhan(supports BO) one of the greatest leaders, and Farrakhan believes in reparation pay for African Americans, do you think BO believes there should be reparation pay?? I know...it's hard to tell. ...the press rarely asks him tough questions. We just don't know, do we???
I am a college educated HRC supporter, but I can honestly say, I'm not proud of every nuance surrounding her campaign(BO's campaign has used fear tactics as well), but I also must keep HRC in perspective. The press has crucified her for years, BC was crucified for years, and after all the investigations, etc. in the 1990's, the final conclusion stated: No other President has been investigated so thoroughly, with so little wrongdoing found. I figure if you put any person/couple through the microscopic view the Clintons have endured, most would show many more foibles than those two. I think HRC is extremely knowledgeable on policy, and I think she would work her heart out to see some of her passions come to
fruition. I'm stickin' with her.
What I'm disturbed by is that Obama stands on - his amazing rhetoric and his non-vote for the Iraq war. Not sure who I support, but I don't think Clinton or McCain should have to apologize for the Iraq vote. Based on the intelligence presented to her AND other Members of the Senate (including many of Sen. Obama's endorsers), THEY voted to authorize the war. Somehow, the Senators felt there was credible intelligence at that time. If the facts have changed since then, I don't believing in praising Sen. Obama's clairvoyance that the facts have changed. Hindsight is 20-20 and I don't for one second believe clairvoyance is a trait that would win the election.
Senator Clinton has run her course and it is time to fold the tent and go back to Little Rock and repent.
It is time to send a post card congratulating Mr. Raul Castro, our neighbor niety miles away, bring our troops home and let the French and United Nations rebuild Iraq.
This is a new era, with new and fluid problems facing our nation. This country needs thoughtful, reflective and deep thinkers that can articulate the innermost drives of our citizens.
Barack Obama, is that unique individual with generous intellect and compassion. He energizes, teachs and helps us understand our tremendous potential. He is a new era global leader that can find a way to connect with all citizens of the word.
America should be very grateful to have such a healer and and great leader. He will help us dig out of the mess, emotional and financial drain that we have been subjected to during the last twelve years of Clinton and Bush era. Change is good, the time is now and the man is Obama.
Obama's good judgement consisted of making one speech when he was a state senator. That's it. He didn't vote for the war, and he didn't vote against it. Since then, he and Clinton have voted identically regarding Iraq.
Now, I'm voting Obama because I think his unity argument is our best bet. But this thing about his great judgement is a fairy tale. There's no clear reason to believe his judgement is any better than Hillary's.
please remember this from man that voted for the military commission act of 2006 stripping habeas corpus and most recently fighting tooth and nail to give the telecoms a blank check to spy on us. yeah, jay is the only man i can honestly say i trust less than bush these days... well okay rove maybe?
Thank you, Senator Rockefeller, for endorsing Barack Obama. He is, indeed, the one to lead our country in this new century. I have not seen a candidate in many years who has been for "A GOVERNMENT BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE, AND OF THE PEOPLE". I am looking forward to a brighter and more prosperous America with President Obama as our leader and Commander-in-Chief!
The combined weight of Senator Dodd's and Senator Rockefeller's experience and perspective should provide more than enough force to counter Hillary's desperate "Daisy" ad. Once again, in her quest to win she's employing negative energy over against Mr. Obama's positive message of hope.
I wish the Clintons would just go away..
Sen. Rockefeller is the co-sponsor of the senate version of FISA bill, the one that gives IMMUNITY TO TELECOMS. He has agressively pushed this bill on behalf of Bush and the telcos.
I am not impressed..Jay Rockefeller is about as crooked as a dogs hind leg..a "blue dog Dem" who votes to feather his own nest first
I`m sick and tired o the Clintons. BO is something fresh and different. It puzzles me that people like HRC and her supporters despises hope.Isn`t she running with the hope that she`ll be the nominee. Enough already. Thanks Mr Rockefeller for your guts to endorse BO.
This is shocking indeed. Very flawed thinking on the part of the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. First off Barack Obama was not in the Senate when he stood in a favorable Illinois rally. He did not stand in the United States and make that rally. Huge difference. Mr. Rockefeller doesn't explain why he had flawed judgement in retrospect. Since Mr. Obama has been in the Senate his voting record on Iraq is identical to Senator Clintons. Perhaps Mr. Rockefeller prefers a man in the White House at any cost.
I find Senator Byrd and Senator Rockefeller's committment to Senator Obaha to be offending as a West Virginia democrat. West Virginia showed support for Senator Clinton and I stronly feel our Senators should include their residents voice in their decision. Senator Clinton was not alone when she voted to support the war, and has since declared her misgivings on that action. Senator Obama was too busy gearing up for Senator McClain to even campaign in West Virginia, which may have swayed my vote to support him.
