Wall Street Journal rips Romney
A major voice of conservatives declares today that Mitt Romney is "the last Republican with a chance to stop John McCain."
But then The Wall Street Journal unloads a withering critique, saying that while McCain's stands on many issues troubles many Republican voters, Romney's problem is that he has been unable to convince voters that he has any convictions at all.
"We haven't been able to discern from his campaign, or his record in Massachusetts, what his core political principles are," the Journal said in its lead editorial today.
"The problem is not that Mr. Romney is willing to reconsider his former thinking," the editorial continues. "Nor is it so much that his apparent convictions always seem in sync with the audience to which he is speaking at the moment....The larger danger is that Mr. Romney's conversions are not motivated by expediency or mere pandering but may represent his real governing philosophy."

How could any moderates and liberals backs war monger McCain. McCain wants to bomb Iran and stay in Iraq for 100 years and promised for more wars. McCain says he wants interest rates to be ZERO out of complete ignorance for how interest rates affect the economy. I'd like to see him say that to retirees on a fixed income. McCain want 10 million illegal immigrants to stay permanently and legal immigrants who can vote do not support it. How could this country be secure if he is in power??? If McCain is nominee, as a republican I would rather vote Clinton than McCain. As least we know Clinton has some intelligence and lead the booming economic. McCain will lead this country to a total ruin with his lack of intelligence and no executive experience. Mitt Romney is an expert in economics and finance and is the man we need as president.
I SURE DON'T THINK THE WALL STREET JOURNAL IS "CONSERVATIVE" IN ANY POSITION. PLEASE DON'T CONSIDER YOUR PAPER AS SUCH WHEN THE FACTS OF HISTORY DO NOT SUPPORT SUCH. BY THE WAY, IF MITT ROMNEY WINS THE GOP CANDIDATE ARE YOU GOING TO CONTINUE TO BASH HIM FOR HIS REAL CONSERVATIVE VIEWS, LEADERSHIP, KNOWLEDGE AND GENUINE BEING? DON'T INSULT YOURSELVES WITH YOUR ANSWER.
Romney actually did for MA what he set out to do... how many years have we heard Washington discuss the need for health care reform, with no results? Romney ACTUALLY took steps to fix the problem. VOTE FOR ROMNEY.
Of course the Globe would highlight this story... When will the Globe stop blasting Romney? The Globe is an embarassment to the citizens of MA.

Abe lincoln said to truly judge a mans character, you must give him power and see what he does with it! Romney has shown his true character when he was govenor!! Mccain lies and people don't check for themselves his background!! He is NOT a conservative!!
In my strong opinion, we don't want a President that cannot think? We don't want a stubborn President that can't deal with "our times". Real Men do not change their principles but they better know how to think and change policy to match principle. As good as people think McCain is on war issues....we have to be careful that he does not go over the top to become a war monger. War is sometimes the answer, but certainly is not the answer all of the time. McCain has run on his ability to make war and I hope he knows how to make peace too.
Between Romney and McCain, Romney has stronger ethics.
I believe mitt is on the right path. a person can have a change of heart and in thoughts with experiencing issues in time. Mitt is the only candidate who stands for integrity and hard work and his record stands by him. Just look at Mccain taking shaep shots at Romeney in the debate which really has no relevance to merits of a person to lead a country. He prides himself with his mocking smile and cheap shots which other endorsers with no moral values take to lead the country for theier own benefits. It's about time for america to wake up and stand for what really matters and not let theit political hangups, gossip etc ruin the country with wrong people at the helm.a person's success within his career and home should be a perfect example to look at in order to fix our own home "America". Go Romeny !!!
I can't believe the double standard with McCain and Romney. The liberal media constantly promotes McCain saying "Don't look at what he did as Senator, look at what he says now". On the other hand, putting down Romney they say "Don't look at what he did as Governor, look at what he said 10 years ago." I believe that we need to look at the way someone governors, not what they said before they actually got power. When given power, Romney governed as a conservative and McCain governed as a liberal. Who would you trust going forward?
Couldn't have said it better myself. Romney is a fraud and thank goodness those that have already voted haven't been hoodwinked by this charlatan.
He'll be finished after Super Tuesday
Right on WSJ. We here in Mass know this weasel up close and impersonal.
Wall Street Journal is a joke when it comes to politics. Romney is a good man with solid credentials to be the next president. I will be voting for Romney and I will not listen to what the media has to say, Romney for president.
Poor, rich, Mitt! His mantra: "What do you want me to say? -- I'll say it!"
I never lie - I only "misspeak". A big phony!
Mitt Romney does have conviction! It is the ECONOMY.
Mitt wants to fix the economy, restore jobs, reduce the trade imbalance, increase our competitiveness, lower taxes, and balance the budget.
The liberal media and religious right keeps trying to sidetrack him on social issues. As Reagan put it a long time ago, a Strong America is the best defense against other countries. Look at Michigan. They overwhelming voted for Mitt Romney. If we keep going down our path, we will all be in the same shape as Michigan.
When you lose your home, lose your job, lose your health benefits, you will naturally want to turn to the government for help. With the liberals, the government won't have any money either. It will be like the Great Depression.
The liberal rich may think it won't affect them, however, it will. When poverty strikes, crime goes up as people fight for survival.
Strong Economy, Strong America, Strong Families, Strong Military. Mitt Romney 08
Writing about Romney's changing stances and saying what pleases the audience at the moment, you wrote "his conversions"....did you mean "his conversations?"
Personally, what draws me to McCain is his consistiency. He may not always be correct in my estimation, but at least he is forthright asnd consistient no matter whom he is speaking to.
Gov. Romney is the only republican that I am willing to vote for in this election. If he should happen to not get the nomination I will vote for the democrat who comes out on top. I would not have said this a week ago but Sen. McCain has shown his true colors and I do not like them one iota.
Give me a break. McCain has refashioned himself three times during this campaign for political expediency - his turnaround during the campaign on the Bush tax cuts, his turnaround now on his immigration bill (he won't push it he said during the debate because the people don't want it - a flip flop of major proportions). McCain lies about why he was against tax cuts saying he was concerned about spending when on record it was because he was against giving them to the "rich" (a Clinton line). McCain has been negative and sarcastic in every debate and his ads in New Hampshire. He claims Romney pointing out in his ads McCain's opposition to the Bush tax cuts started the "smear and character assassination campaign" Before the New Hampshire primary McCain sits by his aging mother while she goes on a tirade against Mormons and says nothing. Says he didn't know she would say this (LIE). Should we mention the Keating Five? It is a shame that in an election where racism is being put behind us with Obama that we still have the religious bigotry in this campaign. Where is the Boston Globe on this? Romney has presented a detailed specific economic plan and health care plan while McCain has presented nothing except to keep us in Iraq for 100 years. McCain talks about how he is opposed to earmarks. Where is the objective press in investigating and reporting the earmarks McCain has put in legislation? I was an Olympic volunteer . At a volunteer training session at Cottonwood High School with several hundred volunteers with Mitt Romney we had a gridlock getting out of the high school parking lot. There was Mitt Romney sleeves rolled up out directing traffic out of the parking lot. He will likewise go to Washington and end the gridlock McCain is part off. I am a military veteran having served my country for 20 years. McCain talks of honor. He has none by the way he conducts himself . I was appalled to learn of his temper and lack of decorum and explicit tirade swearing against fellow Senators. Seems something suitable for ethics hearing where he can say it was a lack of judgment. McCain touts his foreign policy. Foreign policy is more than being a missile head it is diplomacy which McCain is seriously lacking in. Rambo endorsed him. Anyone who has been overseas knows that most countries in the world are offended by the Rambo mentality of some American politicians. By the way where is McCain's conservative values on the new Rambo movie with its obscene graphic violence. With shootings in our schools and shopping malls doesn't McCain find it disburbing to be supported by a Hollywood actor like Rambo?
Here is the dirty BIG secret that Dick Morris, the Democtrats and libereal media don't want McCain and Huckabee supporters to understand:
1. a vote for Huckabee at this point in the race is a vote for McCain. Huckabee CANNOT win the primary and is almost out of money.
2. a vote for McCain in the Primary is a vote for Obama or Clinton in the general election. McCain CANNOT win the general election and he knows that without the base of the party he like Dole before him will loose. The base will never support liberal McCain. Independants will flock to Obama.
For the reasons previuosly stated in this post, McCain who is hated by the Republican base will go down in flames in the general election. Anyone voting on super Tuesday and beyond who is considering McCain or Huckabee needs to think long and hard about who they are rally voting for. Do these folks prefer Obama or Clinton over Romney. If so my friends, you are playing right into the Democrat playbook to win the Whitehouse in '08.
ALL REPUBLICANS NEED TO FLOOD THE INTERNET WITH THIS MESSAGE, SAHRE AND DEBATE IT WITH MCCAIN AND HUCKABEE SUPPORTERS AND TAKE BACK OUR PARTY.........IT IS NOT TOO LATE.....AND WE CAN WIN THE WHITEHOUSE IN '08
I read a comment from a Republican voter that stated that Mitt Romney is a business man who knows how to get America moving, his past experience in the private sector proves this. The only problem is that Mitt's business was to buy companies and then dismantle them. Selling of the parts that were profitable and laying the rest to waste. At this time, when our economy is on such shaky ground, is this type of policy right for America. I think not. I agree with the article in the Wall Street Journal, Mitt Romney is a political chameleon. He will change his spots to appeal to whomever he is speaking to at the time.

All I would like to add is that the American people, (all of us) had better think
twice before entering the voting booth. Think about what this country has gone
through with MR. BUSH, THE REPUBLICAN, IN OFFICE .Think about all our
men and women who have given up their lives. Think about all those men and
women who came home with many handicaps. Think about how AMERICA
HAS SUFFERED UNDER BUSH. Do you really think it will be different with
a McCain or Romney in office? Answer that truthfully and I'm positive you will
come up voting the Democrat.
Mitt Romney is the Republican Hilary Clinton. Say anything. Do anything. It's all about him. I mean, why shouldn't he just buy himself the presidency the way he did the governor's office, shoving a sitting gov from his own party out of the way? Who cares if it's his turn? It's ALWAYS his turn! Hell, it's his birthright!
Here's what a Romney presidency would mean: four more disastrous years of watching our schools crumble while China and India turn out more high-skilled labor that works cheap; four more years of watching our roads turn into craters and bridges fall into rivers; four more years of rudderlessness in Iraq and Pakistan; four more years of sucking up to petro-fascist pushers in the Middle East; four more years of a failing healthcare system so that big pharma can leech off the rest of the country; four more years of turning the treasury into a credit card for Best Buy and Wal-Mart; and ABOVE ALL, four more years of private equity managers taking home eight or nine figure salaries and LAUGHING about how they pay lower taxes than the lady who cleans their toilets.
Romney '08: Because You Exist to Make Him Money
McCain - war monger. Romney - flipflopper. Huckabee - christians-only need apply. What a disgraceful group. As a 40 year Republican, I cannot vote for any of them. I am voting for the politics of "inclusion". I'm now Independent and I'm for Obama! Too bad the Republicans have such a collection of shallow, bitter old men.
There is a gentle, slender man on the Republican side that speaks power to truth, honesty, peace, and compassion for humanity. Those that encourage war, death, torture and darkness have suppressed his voice until now.
This is changing. The candidate of Light is emerging.

Haven't heard anything about the Mormons here yet. If Romney wants to be Chief Kahuna, shouldn't he explain to the other 99% of us what the implications of his cult membership will be? (Of course while at the same time not asking him what his personal religious convictions are, because that would be undemocratic.)
2 years ago, the company I was working for decided to let go a large number of productive employees who had contributed to 20 consecutive quarters of record growth to please the stock analysts once things had cooled off a bit. I was one of those employees, let go by a mediocre manager who protected only the team that had been with him for the past 10 years.
This is the mindset that Mitt Romney brings to the leadership of the nation. It's not right for business, and it's certainly not right for government -- whose purpose, no matter how narrowly you define it, is so much more important than the manufacture of widgets and the payment of quarterly dividends.
So I deny the premise, we do not need a "successful" businessman, and we certianly do not need Mitt Romney...
During the 4 years Mitt Rommey was Governor of Massachusetts, the price of my monthly commuter rail pass skyrocketed, my property taxes went up three times, and the cost of parking at ANY mbta parking lot tripled. I could go on. And this man has the audacity to claim he never raised taxes? Even worse, the audacity to go around telling everyone he balanced the budget every year he was Governor. That's because BY LAW, AS GOVERNOR OF MASSACHUSETTS, you must balance the budget. This wasn't some ingenious, miraculous accomplishment. He had to do it. If you had to do something in your job or risk being fire -- you'd do it too. And his gift to his CEO friends in the Healthcare Industry in Massachusetts --- t's far too soon to tell how that will all pan out Yet, according to Mitt, it's already a complete success -- nothing short of miracle.
Great point Larry. Everyone should go back and read #8 for there is truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go read it!
"CNN has the exit-poll numbers, and they reveal some surprising things:
• Romney won pro-lifers.
• Romney won the mainstream religious. (Huckabee won the very religious ¬ less than one-fifth of the pool.)
• Romney won the Protestants.
• Romney tied Huckabee with Evangelicals.
• Romney won the pro-GWB voters.
• Romney is the primary second choice of Giuliani voters, Thompson voters …. and McCain voters.
• Romney won the immigration hard-liners.
• Romney won the upper-middle class, earning between $100,000 and $200,000 annually.
• Romney won the terrorism-oriented voters.
• Romney won the self-identified conservatives and the self-identified very conservative.
• Romney won the values-oriented voters.
• Romney won the white voters.
• Romney won the tax-cutting voters.
In short, Mitt Romney won the Republican Party’s idea of itself ¬ and that, too, is a big deal. If you’re white, Protestant, anti-abortion, go to church on Sundays, think well of the President, want lower taxes, hate terrorists, make a good living, want to do something about immigration, and live in Florida, chances are you voted Romney. The question before Florida was whether McCain could win a closed Republican race, and now we know he can. The question now is whether he can win conservatives ¬ and in Florida, he did not. "
This was shoddy journalism. The Wall Street Journal usually gives Romney positive reviews. They took this article out of context. Oh well, only suckers will fall for it.
Listening to the Republican debate last night (I'm Democrat) I was amazed at the inability of Romney or McCain to really speak the truth to the audience.
When asked if the country was better or worse off after 8 yrs of Bush, neither would admit (not that's it's their fault - directly) that it's worse. Only Mike Huckabee would. Incredible to think they feel they have to defend Bush on anything!
Then, R&M offer only doubletalk. McCain has the courage to say that Bush's spending is part of the cause of the recession...but then wants to continue spending billions of dollars every month on the war? Where does this money come from? Then he doesn't have the courage to defend himself against Romney's critiques about his co-authored legistation about campaign contributions, immigration, and the like. Romney has so completely transformed himself into a faux conservative that he can't make sensible statements anymore about anything. It really amazes me how the Republican candidates have to pander to the social conservatives, too. It's disgraceful. Fred Thompson thought had had a chance by merely trying to be the only true conservative in the race. Giuliani foolishly thought his faux 9-11 leadership could propel him somewhere, even though he knows very little about so many things.
Romney's obviously a smart guy and could grown into a Presidential person, but he's screwed himself by following poor advise, and now people are defaulting to McCain - who doesn't have a chance in the general election because either Obama or Clinton will make him look like the out of touch person that he is. McCain simply is not a born leader, and this country will not benefit from a McCain presidency. Very sad choices.
When choosing between McCain and Romney, I'll vote Romney. He is a well educated, civil man; McCain graduated at the BOTTOM of his class and showed little interest in learning. Do we really want a verbally impoverished, forgetful, flighty president? I don't think so. If Romney doesn't win; I'll vote Obama.
The Journal is right about Romney. He'll say anything to get elected. Remember what he told those desperate auto workers in Michigan? The Republican Party has spoken. This Tuesday John McCain will emerge as our nominee. There is room for all at the table. If however, extreme voices like Rush Limbaugh's convince a few extremists to stay home on election day, it won't really matter. John McCain has enough support among Independents and Reagan Democrats to build a new coalition. Perhaps that's the best possible outcome for the future of our party anyway. http://mccainforprez.tripod.com/
For all of you Romney bashers out there I ask you to consider the following:
What does a successful, rich business man have to gain by becoming President? Do you think he cares about the potential couple of hundred thousand dollar salary he is going to make? Do you think he really cares about the money? Why would he invest a good portion of his own fortune and his children's inheritance? Because he loves this country and his family and wants to do everything in his power to try to turn around a nation quickly going into the toilet.
Mitt is a good man and an American patriot. If you'd rather elect another stupid bumper sticker politician then go with "what kind of Change?" Obama, "35 years of Experience (really???)" Hillary, or "Why the hell am I a Republican?" McCain.
The only reason the liberal media endorses McCain is that he could not win. He is a very good human being, but father time is no match for anybody.
John McCain is 71 years old and appears tobe in his 80s due to a rough life and the Arizona sun. If he were 10-20 years younger he would have a chance, but he is too old to be the president..
Mitt Romney's worst enemies are the religious bigots that hate Mormons, and they could make it really rough for him to win..
Bad bad bad. And add a Boo to that. Romney is our best choice, and he should be our ONLY choice. add another boo to mccain, another for guiliani, and a double load for huckabee
APOLITICS NOW!

Soupy's comment about mormons and cults shows that this world is still full of idiots.
I belong to the LDS church as well and the only things that factor (at work) into my decision making related to my religion are my sense of honesty and my moral grounding.
IF that makes me (or Romney) a member of a "cult" then so be it. But Soupy's till and idiot.
Romney is nothing more than a retail politician practiced in the art of "bait & switch". Voters see through this. in spite of dumping tens of millions more into his campaign than the other candidates he will lose. His words ring hollow to informed voters.
Everybody should see reality. The country LOVES McCain! He is the true, true conservative. He is the master of self-control. He never fibs. He never stutters or forgets what he's talking about. He is such a straight talker that no matter what he says, truth or lie, by very definition it is STRAIGHT talk and is coming from the only true patriot, who should never be questioned. Most republican senators think McCain is a great LEADER! Most governors couldn't picture themselves in the presidency or an administration. They want to leave it to McCain who will likely do two terms. Besides, with McCain in, no matter which way the General Election goes, America wins! McCain or Hillary - I'm happy either way. I might not even vote.
Romney claims to have saved the 2002 Winter Olympics, but with a $1.2 billion federal bailout, http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3720/is_200203/ai_n9074409/pg_1
anybody could have saved the Olympics. Also, he never mentions Fraser Bullock, his hands-on COO/CFO and the millions of Mormon volunteers who would have done anything to avoid embarrassing Salt Lake City with a failed Olympics!
As for Bain, it's easy to get people to work 18 hours a day if that's what it takes to affect a turnaround in the private sector. I worked for a consulting firm & they fire you if you don't produce. If you think this translates to getting the public employee unions in DC to support any program of change, you've never been to Washington. Oh right - like Romney. A President needs to know how to lead for results in the public-sector culture. Read “Citizen McCain” if you want a taste of what it takes to get anything done there. I might hire Mitt to turn my company around; but I wouldn’t follow him across the street.
Very interesting interview Shawn Hannity from FOX News had a few nights ago with Jack Kemp, who supports McCain. They discussed McCain has problems with the conservative base and his record on tax issues.
According to Kemp, McCain says voting against tax cuts was a mistake. McCain has seen the light and is now for tax cuts.
McCain now says the McCain-Feingold was a mistake, now he is against it.
McCain was against repealing the death tax… now he is for it. McCain wanted to increase Social Security Tax …now he’s against that.
I am waiting for McCain to change on immigration next.
Kemp emphatically stated that McCain admits he made a mistake in judgment. Now that these issues are a problem for McCain he has changed his mind.
Again, according to Kemp, that is OK because we all make mistakes. I do not know, but are we suppose to believe that McCain really saw the light and changed his mind or is this a flip-flop on these issues to deceive the voters so that if he becomes President, he will do whatever he wants anyway.
McCain, a big part of the KEATING FIVE scandal, is a big part of the "do-nothing" Congress. If elected, it will be business as usual in D.C.
Romney will clean our fiscal house and bring the economy back.
I for one would never trust McCain with the highest office in the land. This is the first time in years that I am finally proud and confident to cast my vote. I take nothing for granted, Romney needs my vote and yours to become the next President of the USA.
A NEW HOPE
We all have been living a nightmare. A vision D. Eisenhower warned of in his 1961 farewell address to the nation. In his address, Eisenhower warned of the corruption of our government, our society, and our culture by the MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX. It seems that, as a nation, we have not listened. Eisenhower’s dire vision has become our reality. And from this fearful dream, this nation is waking. Our eyes are opening to the truth collectively for the first time. WE THE PEOPLE are finding that we have been subjugated, placated into ignorance and fear, lied to by the very people we have entrusted to preserve and protect our rights, liberties, and our constitution. Many will turn away in fear of truth and close their eyes once again. To open our eyes to this reality, is to also understand that we are all responsible for it as well. complacency and dependence upon the machine keeps THE PEOPLE in line because it is convenient and safe. We have sold our souls. We have as a nation let this happen to ourselves.
My heart breaks for the people of this nation. Our government wages war upon our freedoms, liberties, and our constitution. I watch our republic’s destruction, not to the sound of guns or bombs, but to the sound of thunderous applause of those held captive by terrified patriotic blindness, guided by the propaganda of fear, as we give our rights and even the lives of our fellow man for the profit of the corrupt. A fear that is erasing our great history of freedom and repeating itself 70 years later with another dictatorship of war, under the guise of homeland security and the protection of the people.
BUT THERE IS STILL HOPE.
With love and openness, we can overcome ignorance and fear. It is our right as the people, and my duty as a United States MARINE written into our constitution by our founding fathers, entrusted to us, by the people, to ensure that our liberty, freedom, and the constitution never again become the subjugation of the corruption that we have wrought upon ourselves. We must take back our country, and give it to the people. So let us open our hearts, take responsibility, and make our HOPE become our reality. Lets begin REVOLUTION. His name
Dr. Ron Paul
