Debate set in Pennsylvania

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor March 13, 2008 05:02 PM

Meet me in Pennsylvania.

Hillary Clinton just jumped first, announcing that she has accepted an invitation from ABC for a nationally televised primetime debate in Philadelphia before the April 22 Pennsylvania primary.

UPDATE: Barack Obama has accepted the Philadelphia debate as well, scheduled for April 16. He has also agreed to an April 19 debate in North Carolina, which votes May 6.

Before the Ohio and Texas primaries on March 4 that saved her candidacy, Clinton challenged Obama preceding debates in Austin and Cleveland, saying, "Meet me in Texas" and "Meet me in Ohio."

"Hillary is prepared to show she has real solutions for the problems facing residents of the Keystone State," Clinton's campaign said in a statement.

  1. Oh great more empty words from Clinton. I hope this time Obama brings along her WI and NH mailings; airs her words about fighting special interests in DC then just one: Hoffman La Roche's two $21,000. donations to her in 2004 and 2006, followed by the clip from the first or second debate vowing she would continue to take lobbyists money. Like the master chess player is, I am sure she has planned some more kitchen stink to "create enough doubt" in her power hungry quest for her self proclaimed seat on the throne. If she cared about citizens so much she would not be trying to jam Bill down our throats for another 4 long insufferable years or their corruption and drama. Hello President McCain, hello Iran and thank you megalomaniac Clinton.

  1. She might have "real solutions for the problems facing residents of the Keystone State," but her track record shows that will never be able to bring people with differing views together and get these "solutions" done.
She is a divider. Whenever confronted with opposition she resorts to n the Saul Alinski tactics that she learned while at Wellesley. She demonizes her opponents.

In her senior thesis at Wellesley " There Is Only the Fight," she wrote about the political organizer Saul Alinsky from Chicago who used tricks and smears to demolish his opponents."Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it." This is what Hillary gained from studying Alinsky. She has never changed. Now Barack Obama is the "target."

Please no more Clinton polarization and shenanigans in our White House

  1. DON'T BE DUPED!!!

Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And because they feel that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket would be unbeatable. And also because with a Clinton and Obama ticket you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very soon.

But first, all of you have to make certain that Hillary Clinton takes the democratic nomination and then the Whitehouse. NOW! is the time. THIS! is the moment you have all been working, and waiting for. You can do this America. “Carpe diem” (harvest the day).

I think Hillary Clinton see’s a beautiful world of plenty, and comfort for all. She is a woman, and a mother. And it’s time America. Do this for your-self, and your children’s future. You will have to work together on this and be aggressive, relentless, and creative. Americans face an even worse catastrophe ahead than the one you are living through now.

You see, the medical and insurance industry mostly support the republicans with the money they ripped off from you. And they don’t want you to have quality, affordable universal health care. They want to be able to continue to rip you off, and kill you and your children by continuing to deny you life saving medical care that you have already paid for. So they can continue to make more immoral profits for them-self.

Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama’s. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!

As much as 30% of Obama's primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.

Hillary Clinton has been out manned, out gunned, and out spent 2 and 3 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton.

If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is. YOUNG PEOPLE. DON’T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose.

The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. I suggest a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket now! Everyone needs to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton NOW! So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.

I think Barack Obama has a once in a life time chance to make the ultimate historic gesture for unity, and change in America by accepting Hillary Clinton’s offer as running mate. Such an act now would for ever seal Barack Obama’s place at the top of the list of Americas all time great leaders, and unifiers for all of history. But the time to act is soon.

The democratic party, and the super-delegates have a decision to make. Are the democrats, and the democratic party going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee to fight for the American people. Or are the republicans going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee through vote fraud, and gaming the DEMOCRATIC party primaries, and caucuses.

Fortunately the Clinton’s have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton’s. Only the Clinton’s are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.

“This is not a game” (Hillary Clinton)

    Sincerely

    jacksmith...

  1. If you can't win an election on your own merit and have to result to desperate fear tactics and gutter politics, then perhaps you are not the right person for the job...

exagerrated claims of "experience"; play victim when you get caught in lies and act as if everyone else is crazy; preach about transparency in government, but doesn't demonstrate it; divide and conquer the country, and the Democratic Party; try to seat ineligible delegates; smile in your face while stabbing you in the back... Get lost Hillary!!! Enough is enough!

  1. Go Hillary! Obama can't win the delegate race either, so ZIP it! If it's Obama, I'm afraid it's going to be another Republican win come November. The Republicans will run him up the flagpole on (lack of) experience and hang him out to dry.

  1. jacksmith has it right. The republicans are counting on obama to get the nomination. they have made a joke of our election process. they know if hillary gets the nomination they lose the white house. now the democrats are worried because if obama gets the nomination we lose the white house. the super delegates need to get their s--- together to make sure this doesnt happen. either way there will be no obama in our white house. in light of all the recent news about obamas connections to the racists pastor and the slum lord i say have a good debate hillary and stay on the issues that is all you have to do. americans are not stupid. God Bless America. Not God d--- America.

  1. Obviously Jack Smith is a Dittohead plant. His statement that Republicans are voting for Obama because they feel he is easier to beat than Clinton is the exact opposite of the truth. He's saying support Hillary NOW! Very clever how he trashes the Republicans for trying to "fix" the Democratic primary, accusing them of voting for Obama when the exact opposite is true.

  1. No one is talking about the fact that Hillary has incredible name recognition and has the feminist, I'm just voting for her 'cuz she's a woman, vote. Obama has made some serious ground and is actually beating her going into the convention! He's like a boyscout. Read his books. He is the type of politician that is finally not a freak'n politician. Call it naivete or inexperience... he still believes that good can be done. I was originally going into this election to punish the republicans for flushing this country down the toilet. He has turned me around and made me realize we need to strive for dream... keep reaching. Peace.

  1. RESPONDING TO NO. 17 - Yes, the trial is coming. On April 25, the judge will set open the way for discovery and hopefully set the trial date. Hillary is finally going to be under oath in August. The voters are finally going to see what she has done. The greatest campaign finance fraud will be hidden no longer. Our 13-minute segment from HILLARY! UNCENSORED was leaked on a website in October. Since then, over 6.5 million people have seen it. Has it done damage? Absolutely.

  1. By many different scenarios: winner take all, counting MI and FL, doing away with undemocratic caucuses--Hillary would be the clear front runner by now. The Obama campaign has "gamed" the system, and now they think they can "game" our psyches. Well, psych Obama, Hillary won't back down, and she will use the debates to prove that she is a person of substance with the toolkit to effect real change. Obama is being propped up by a machine and by loser politicians using Obama as their puppet. We need to see Hillary and Obama, mano-a-mano, to remind the nation who has the heart and the gut to lead this nation to greatness. Now, everything I've stated here is fact. It amazes me how many supporters of the "post-racial" peace-and-love candidate Barack Obama spew the most evil, hate-based, personal attacks on these websites. If this is what the Obama campaign unleashes in people, he should not be President.

  1. Evening all..
You know I am so tired of these debates. The problem is that the dems are divided. The world at large does not respect us as a nation. It's funny how everyone thinks Hillary has some type of experience. She does, as being the president's wife and a senator. She has no real world experience running a country unless she was running the country with her hand stuck up Bill's back and him mouthing her words.. like a puppet.

We need to stop bickering. We need real solutions in this country. I am here in Pennsylvania and there is death and destruction all around me. As a mother to a murdered child, there is no government here to support us. We lose a black child a day and some days more than 2. There are no real jobs because we have no industry. I work 2 jobs and can't hardly pay my bills because my "real job" was outsourced to a 3rd world country making me the one who is struggling. Who is going to speak for us if we don't. A grass roots effort to turn things around is ambious to say the least however, a fresh pair of eyes may do wonders and we we the people would be right up front. It will take more than 2 terms to undo the mess George Dubya put us in. Another republican can't help us. We are in too many places doing too many things. I agree it's time for a change.

    1. Bring jobs back to the US. Stop giving money to companies to move them overseas. Develop industry. Creative people need jobs. Who said we couldn't make toys and paint them without using lead paint? I think we can do that.
    2. Get tough where it counts and stand you ground. Don't let companies negotiate what's best for them.. when clearly they have no agenda to include us.
    3. Come up with sweeping solutions that will cut down on crime. If thugs think that it is old home week at the prison, they don't mind going. What happened to "chain gangs"? Oh close your mouth.. thugs don't have rights. No body needs to try to save them. That's where my money is going to house them and my son is dead at the hands of a thug who will be released next year. How about the punishment should FIT the crime? What a deteriant huh?
    4. Bring our troops home. We have senselessly lost over 4000 young folks.. devastating their families and for what? Safety ... didn't he say "fight them there so we won't have to fight them here? I disagree.. we weren't fighting the right person.
    5. Challenge cities and state to provide for their homeless and the poor. Many of the homeless lost their jobs due to outsourcing.. Crap does run down hill.

Don't give up. Politics is about mud slinging in my 58 years I have read and followed several elections. It's what they do.. don't let it sway you. Stand convicted to beat the Republicans and kick that smirk right off of George Dubya's face.

I am making the choice for the best person to do the job. I know it won't be a REPUBLICAN ... Mother of a Murdered Son.

  1. I missed part of the interview on faith and religion. I saw that Obama was asked about Rev. Wright and his "bitterness" statement. I did not see if Hillary was asked what her religion's position is on lying (or should I say "misstatements") ie Bosnia, NAFTA etc. If she was not questioned on truthfulness that night, I would like to hear her answer tonight. I was originally torn between voting for Hillary or Obama. No longer. I am disgusted and disappointed in the way she is running her campaign. I am especially troubled by what I am seeing as her lack of truthfulness. I guess I am not what the media perceives as the "typical" Obama supporter. I am a 60 year old, white woman. I would love to vote for a woman president. Just not the kind of person Hillary is showing herself to be. Thank you.

  1. Question for the group: Has Hillary ever had an experience where she WAS under fire while leaving a plane and was forced to run into her car to be wizzed away? Has that ever happened to her anywhere?

Did she mix up the events in Bosnia with some other time she was shot at?

If not......then HOW could she mis-characterize or mis-speak about what really happened in Bosnia when her statements are a complete fallacy? It's not like she mixed it up with another time when she WAS getting shot at......she MADE IT UP! It's a total lie.

Please - does anyone know if this has happened to her to I can dismiss her mis-statement as a simple lapse of memory? If not how can I believe that she simply "mis-spoke".

I like her as a candidate, but how can I trust her?

I'm Superman faster than the speed of light.......oh wait I'm sorry I mispoke.

  1. This debate is a mud slinging contest that has not even focused on the real issues of healthcare, jobs, or the economy. They finally mentioned Iraq after several questions on past accusations made by each campaign. I suspect that this cannot be good for either candidate. The questions are strategically beneficial to the Republicans.

  1. Since Hillary no longer has any valid reason to continue to bash Obama for his comments
without the public looking back at Bill Clinton's statement while running for president, "
The reason (George H. W. Bush's tactic) works so well now is that you have all these
economically insecure white people who are scared to death," Clinton was quoted saying
by the Los Angeles Times in September 1991. I guess now she will accuse him of plagiarism,
since her husband made a similar statement first. Read this article.
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/13/bill-clinton-flashback-al_n_96433.html

She has never apologized for her repeated lies. If saying,"I misspoken" or "This proves I'm
human" is an apology.. then she has gotten by with another.

If Bill Clinton can make such a derogatory statement and not only be forgiven but elected
president, What's the big deal with Obama... Clinton should know, oh so well, He misspoke!
    It's proves he's human.

  1. Pat Buchanan's comments about Hillary's attack on anyone who attacks Israel (or other allies) need to be followed up. On one hand, she introduces a nonbinding resolution telling Bush he cannot proceed with attacks on Iran without congressional approval. On the other hand, she is continuing the Bush policy of ignoring the constitution's requirement of congressional approval to go to war, especially when we have not been attacked.

I was surprised when she said it. Both Pat and Rachel Maddow picked up on it but no other news organization or talking head has picked up on it.

Clinton's pledge to destroy Iran came from the following Washington Post article:
    The Holocaust Declaration
    Charles Krauthammer
Thirty-seven words that this president, and every future president, should say to deter Iran.
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/10/AR2008041003271.html

Hillary voted to authorize the Iraq war without reading the classified report, defended that vote and that invasion for years, supported the Lieberman resolution encouraging the invasion of Iran, introduced a powerless resolution on Bush needing congressional approval for foreign invasions, and now claiming a president, without a declaration of war, can annihilate Iran if they attack any of our allies in the Mideast. Wow!

I think it is fair to say she is a warmonger.

  1. Both Hillary and Obama are capable of beating Mc Cain. Considering the way our favorite president Jorge W. Bush and his cabinet ran this country, it would take a lot to get Americans to elect another Republican. To be honest, I don't think Mc Cain is that republican. Therefore, this race is really between Obama & Hillary. Beside, Mc Cain interest is not one that's in correlation with the citizens of this country. During an interview with NBC, he called for an increase in U.S Troops in Iraq at a time when most Americans wants to retrieve from the war. For Mc Cain to asked for more Troops when Americans wants out of this war is an illustration that he's obviously out of touch with the American people.
