Clinton optimistic about Ohio and Texas
By Susan Milligan, Globe Staff
HOUSTON -- An upbeat Hillary Clinton started campaigning early today on what she called another chapter in "a long process'' to winning the nomination -- and one that might not hinge on winning both Texas and Ohio today.
"I feel very good about today,'' Clinton told reporters after shaking hands with supporters at an elementary school serving as a polling place in East Houston. And while both Texas and Ohio are "really important,'' Clinton said, she dismissed the idea that she should get out of the race if she loses one of the delegate-rich states to Barack Obama, who leads among pledged delegates.
Her campaign "is just really hitting its stride,'' she said.
The Clinton campaign is bouyed by late polls showing the New York senator gaining in both states. But since hundreds of thousands of people voted early in Texas, neither campaign knows how relevant those polls are today. "Let's wait and find out what the voters have actually decided,'' she said before heading off for last-minute campaigning in Dallas.
Clinton staffers are clearly more confident about winning Ohio than Texas; the senator is set to spend election night in Columbus, while Obama plans to hold his campaign party in San Antonio. And Clinton refers more often to Ohio when assessing her chances.
"You don't get to the White House as a Democrat without winning Ohio. And we're going to put Texas in play,'' she said.
Clinton hopes to press ahead to the April 22 primary in Pennsylvania, but the campaign appears discouraged about her chances in Mississippi and Wyoming, which hold contests before then. Clinton staffers are in both Wyoming and Mississippi, but "I think those two states are likely to favor Senator Obama more than us,'' said Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson.

Give 'em hell Hillary. You're the best and we all know it.
I hope Clinton does press on and ride out the irrational exuberance of the Obamaniacs. I'd like to see a democrat in the Whitehouse, and Obama going to the general election will almost certainly mean 4 more years for the GOP. Conservatives for Obama? You bet! They can't wait to squash him.
People must think so they can really be color blind.
I wish Hillary the best and I pray that if it is Gods will, then she will turn out to be our next leader! Nancy
Best of luck to you Hillary...your success is our success. You are an inspiration and we need you to be our president.
Don't quit...please...even Huckabee, who is so incredibly far behind, isn't quitting; as he says, what 's the hurry? Many, many months until the election.
I am so thankful that you are running; it has been a long wait to have such a credible candidate.
Yeah I'm from Ohio and last time I voted for Kerry but unfortunately Ohio went to Bush. Sadly I think I'll get the same disappointment again. Oh well I support Barack Obama not because I support his popularity but his ideas and views. He is definitely the best candidate. Peopel who are voting for Hilary are either out of fear or stereotype of Barack's name and race. I have seen so many idiots posting comments that refers him as Osama... How immature can one get?! This is like middle school bully tacitc. Yeah make fun of his name, make fun of his color, just do anything except reflecting upon his issues right? Because we're voting for president of United States so we obviously have to get the most sensational gossip out of this as much as possible. Sorry, I can't help but being sarcastic.. haha.. so sick of Hilary's 'kitchen sink' crap.
Obama '08
Clinton discourages millions not to feel and then today she says she feels good about the Tuseday. After all that vicious acts of her...
She surely does not believe in a superior power that will prove her wrong.
Hillary is the only candidate who has proposed "real answers to todays problems.
Obama is a wonderful candidate as well, but truly lacks the experience, no matter what anyone says. We need someone ready on "Day One"
Go Hillary
Hilary Clinton really needs to close her mouth, every photo of her has her mouth wide open as if to say "trust me". Not good for someone seeking the presidents office.
go hillary go!
CAN SOME ONE PLEASE TELL ME WHY KERRY KEEPS FLAPPING HIS PIE HOLE FOR OBAMA, WHEN HILLARY WON MA. BY A LAND SLIDE?
PERHAPS KERRY SHOULD RUN FOR SEN. IN A STATE THAT SHARES HIS VIEWS.
I don't care if Obama lied about NAFTA, I don't want Hillary to win.
We live in a spiritually bankrupt society that insists on fighting one another, and that couldn't be more evident than in this political race. We need to unite and be inspired toward change in this country, and Hillary isn't going to bring that because she tends to divide and demoralize. Obama inspires and unites. I haven't felt this inspired and driven in a cause since I joined the church of Scientology 5 years ago. We must unite as one voice, and let the world know we will never again stand as a divided society. Yes, we can.
I believe Senator Hillary Clinton will win 3 out 4 States holding their primaries
today namely; Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and losing only to Vermont.. The
momentum is going on her favor, probably because of the timely exposure of
Obama's NAFTAA trade policy and Resko's campaign contribution and close "dealings" relationship. The American voters do understand and realize
the seriousness of these two issues affecting Obama's credibility. So, get out
and vote, every vote counts. Your vote really matters. May the best candidate
win! Good luck!
Hillary is a divisive to the party. She relies on the spin of untruths and distortions to obtain votes. People that have not done their research fall for it. Even if hell froze over, I would not vote for her in the general election. Beware: She is running her campaign like she would run the country. Obama has been attacked from every corner of the earth and he has remained steadfast and positive. He is highly intelligent, diplomatic, has been State Senator for eight years and U.S. Senator for four (thus, throw out the inexperienced card). His ethics are stellar. This is the type of President that Americans need.
CAN SOMEONE PRESS THIS IDIOT HUSSEIN OSAMA/OBAMA ON THIS :
No one has ever said anything about.....Obama's Kenyan MUSLIM FAMILY
BACKROUND IN PUBLIC.... the MEDIA is all tight lip about it...THE FACT, that BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA was asked to CHANGE his REAL name several yrs back and decline because, HE WAS PROUD OF HIS FATHER MUSLIM FAITH !!!!!!!!!!!
AND THIS AFTER 9/11 ????????????? WOW !!!!!!
HOW CAN THIS MAN BE SO PUPULAR IN OUR COUNTRY??????
HAVE WE ALL GONE CRAZY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm happy that her campaign is finally hitting it's stride of using smear techniques and spreading negative memes to attack the character of Barack Obama.
Up untill now she was just attacking his "experience" and "lack of policy substance", so when he proved formidable in policy discussions during the debates things were starting to look bad.
If you can't beat em, destroy em!
Destroy them? Not a bad idea. Both are political and dishonest slime who would do or say anything for a vote. Both would destroy our energy companies, open the floodgates to more trespassers, embolden our enemies, increase handouts to the undeserving, and payoff their political cronies. Racist blacks and bin Laden would vote for Obama. Angry feminist losers and Hugo Chavez would vote for Clinton. Real Americans will vote for the man who believes duty, honor, country.
Anyone who actually reads the congressional records for these two candidates will be blown away by the incompetence of Hillary Clinton. Go ahead, read it for yourself. Ignoring every time they sponsor the same bill, all you're left with is Hillary's toothless unsupportable limp temporary measure versus important sweeping changes proposed by Obama and co-sponsored by 4-40 other senators. There's absolutely no way that Hillary has anything useful to contribute. She's a part of the machine, Clinton II just like our current Bush II.
Quit listening to pundits and arguing over sex and race. Read the record and be disgusted: http://thomas.loc.gov
The only bridge between Hillary and the presidency is/was obama, the gap is/will be gone after tonigh.
She will crash Mccain.

One comment by Reggie above said that Obama "inspires and unites"...so did Hitler!
That can also be a very scary thing for someone in a powerful position that lacks the experience to lead our country. WAKE UP PEOPLE!
It's time to put our country back together again!
It is very disturbing that the media appears to be shaping this campaign. So many people have "herd" thinking and find it easier to follow the media's distortions. Obama is incredibly articulate and thinks quickly on his feet. As an unknown, he makes me uncomfortable. Hillary has a proven record and is also extremely intelligent. However, being female, she has so many strikes against her. I, for one, am voting for Hillary. GO HILLARY!!
We need hillary clinton so she can clear the mess these republican made in the last 7 years. And as for this obama fever these are just an empty speeches and phony charm. And an empty suit will not pay my bills. So Hillary Clinton don't give up on us the little guys.
I don't trust Hillary, I don't respect her (look at the way she has run her campaign!) and I don't like her. And, should she be the nominee of the Democratic Party will not vote for her.
Let's see what spin she puts on this latest primary. God knows she is a master at the spin.
Obama inspires me and thousands of others. I hope we give him a chance to help us heal this country.
This woman and her husband will do anything to win. If Obama had lost 11 straight races there is no doubt in my mind that there would be a deafening hue
and cry form him to step aside. She arrogantly predicted back in December that
this race would be over on February 5th. She's more than a little p...off that she
underestimated not just her opponent but the will of the people in their desire to
have someone other than another Bush or Clinton in the White House. She's
divisive in a way that only one other person in recent political is.......Karl Rove.
For her to disrespect him by stating that she has experience and Senator McCain
has experience but Barack has a "speech." is inexcusable to me as a Democratic voter. The " wealth" of her experience was with the Rose Law firm in Arkansas.
As
All you saying Hillary is holding punches because Obama's "black" are full of it.
if they are punches that offend blacks, hispanics, asians or whites why in the hell would you be throwing them in the first place? We all are american voters the last time I checked.
Whats really crazy about this election is that you don't hear anybody from the Obama camp attacking Hillary just countering and its probably because they don't need to. Hillary's got so many skeletons in her closets that they keep falling out. You don't even need to look for them and you will end up tripping over one.

I can't stand to hear Hillary Clinton run her mouth. She is the typical lying, deceitful, politician running for office. Obama is so refreshing because he is truthful, smart and not your typical lying, politician. The people who are turned away because of his name are ignorant and I am sure it was Hillary's campaign people who started the rumor about him being a muslim. He is not a muslim. Do your homework people. I want to see someone in office that is not your typical politican. WE NEED A CHANGE. That is what Obama is offering since he started campaigning and now Hillary is using that in her campaign speeches. You won't get change from a person who has been in politcs as long as she has been in it. Her years in politics are worth nothing. Have people forgotten how badly she screwed up the health insurance reform she worked on when Bill was in office? Obama is going to win, NO DOUBT.
Hillary is the only candidate for me!!!
Rhetoric aside, the only one who has proposed how they plan to put in place their strategy to heal this nation is Hillary. Her health plan, alone, is the only way to put affordable premiums into the hands of Americans, by providing a large base to draw from for catastrophic and long-term care, and by eliminating the "hidden cost" that has been consistently passed on to the insured in America. Without a broad base, affordable premiums for all is an impossibility. Assuming that someone will voluntarily elect to carry health insurance for themselves or their children has already, historically, been proven an invalid assumption in the majority of cases.
That’s why we are voting for Hillary.
And not for Obama.
THE MASS HAS BEEN FED THE BS – THEY ARE EATING IT UP CAUSE HE TALKS THEIR TALK – HE WOULD HAVE TO BE PRESIDENT 17 TERMS TO DO WHAT HE PROMISES!
WOW - - - - IT’S SO TRANSPARENT, BUT STILL IT’S CUTE TO SEE ALL THE CHILDREN IN THE CANDY STORE! GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO EAT IT!
Good luck Hillary
Narrow minded people live in the past. I can't for the life of me figure out why any one wants to vote for BILLARY!!! She is the biggest liar there is besides our IDIOT president BUSH! She always talks about her experience, WHAT EXPERIENCE???
She was only the first lady whom was put in charge of health care that FAILED during her husband’s term as president.
BILLARY does not come off presidential not in the least. Remember people, IGNORANCE is blind. She wants us to take a blind eye to what she hasn't done and take her word for what she plans on doing. Hate to tell you folks, her husband will be running the country behind the seen. She comes off as the cold, calculating, backbiting person I thought she was. Why are us women making this out of a FEM issue? I doesn't matter the sex of the person that is running, we must chose the best suited for the job.
Bill and Hillary thought they had this election in the bag. They did not count on Obama receiving the number of support he has. I am sure it galls them to no end that this man has captured many votes and has tapped into her supporters. Dirty politics at its best.
GO OBAMA!!!!!!
As a member of the Church of Scientology I am steadfast in my belief that Barak Obama would be an excellent choice for the U.S. Presidency. We have a lot of confidence in his leadership potential.
Wasn't anyone else entirely turned off by Hillary's disgustingly fake condescending remark at the TX debate. You know the one - I am honored, honored to be here next to Barack Obama. That drove me once and for all into the Obama camp. Given that their plans are almost identical, it came down to which candidate I found more genuine and Barack is that man. By the way, enough with the Muslim references.
This AM there was a article by Barak saying that Clinton need to with both states by double-digits. So he is now an expert on these things?
Hillary might have experience, but that experience tells me I don't approve of her much. Add on the negative adds and the other desperate acts she's been committing on the campaign trail just reinforces my view of her.
Obama needed financial aid to get through college. He just paid off his student loans. He is young, but it seems to me that he is an intelligent man who is a quick learner. His speeches show that a lot of thought was put into them, not that he is full of empty promises. (Though he is optimistic. I think that says more about how cynical the entire nation has become than about some kind of naivety on Obama's part.) And with so many small donations coming from so many citizens, he won't be reliant on lobbyists and corporations for funding as Hillary is.
It seems to me that Obama remembers what it was like to be a normal person. Hillary has been in politics for way to long and has forgotten how to connect with the everyday person. She seems more "desperate" and "cornered" rather than experienced to me.
Yo KH(#15)...you're a clown. You are a flat out clown. And it brings a smile to my face knowing how terrified you are of having a black president. LOL!!!
That's the history that is being made here; racist cowards like KH who doesn't have any balls are over there pissing themselves right now. That's why people are voting for Obama. People are tired of your ingnorant ass!! LOL!!!
I keep my fingers crossed for Hillary AND she will sweep up in PA !!!! Go Hillary !!
