McCain's sentimental journey
By Brian C. Mooney, Globe Staff
Reintroducing himself to voters as the Republicans' presumptive presidential nominee, Senator John McCain will visit several states next week in what his campaign is billing as a "biographical tour."
Each stop will represent a chapter in McCain's life and military career, be used to emphasize a "service to America" theme, and to highlight issues and aspects of his character.
Logistically and thematically, his campaign continues to make the transition from securing the nomination to girding for a general election contest against the Democrats, who have not yet settled on a nominee.
Final details of the trip were still being worked out today, but some tentative stops were already posted on McCain's campaign website and more were expected to be added. The tour will extend over five or possibly six days.
The stops include a Monday morning speech in Meridian, Miss., not far from the naval air station where McCain once served as a naval flight instructor and McCain Field is named for his grandfather, a Navy admiral and native Mississippian.
Two Florida events are scheduled later next week -- in Pensacola, where, as a hard-partying young officer, he underwent flight training at the naval air station, and Jacksonville, where, after his release as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam, he became commander of a large air group that trained crews and pilots for aircraft carrier assignments.
At the end of the tour are tentative stops in his home state of Arizona, including Prescott, where in 1964, after winning the Republican nomination, Barry Goldwater launched his general election campaign. McCain succeeded Goldwater, who is credited with starting the conservative ascendancy of the GOP, in the Senate.

Dear Senator McCain:
Congratulations thus far in winning in New Hampshire and South Carolina and for being the frontrunner for the GOP nomination in 2008. I think you are a great American, courageous and a good leader.
You displayed your leadership and courage when you managed to somehow survive 5 years in captivity as a POW during Vietnam; even turning down an early release (after your 1st year as POW)offer because the Commies wouldn't also release your fellow POW's as well as you demanded. This is quite noble and brave; very few people would've been willing to spend any extra 4 years in captivity (as you did) for your noble demands.
Well, best of luck in your campaign. I think if elected you would make an excellent President who I would be proud to call my Commander in Chief - much like Dubya (President Bush). You still have a lot of work ahead of you to get the nod, but I predict you will do it-mainly because of your perseverance and determination as evidenced by your previously surviving 5 years held captive by the enemy as a POW in Communist North Vietnam. Don't forget however, whoever gets nominated, they have very Big Shoes ('W') to fill; much like when Reagan left office in 1989 and Ike left in 1961.
Sincerely,
Manny Gomez
By the way, although I like Chuck Norris he is dead wrong about you. I have no idea why he supports Huckabee either. You are the real life American hero Braddock (from Missing in Action) not just some 2nd rate actor who played the character behind the friendly confines of a Hollywood studio. There was no director yelling 'Cut' (as Chuck had the luxury of having) when you were out there on the Real battlefields in Vietnam. As I recall, during the Vietnam years Chuck was too busy filming and getting beaten up by Bruce Lee (in 'Way of the Dragon') and Jackie Chan in Karate movies.
Dear Senator McCain:
I am happy to see you are ahead in the polls of the the Democratic nominees for President. We need a strong, experienced and patriotic individual like yourself to keep winning the War on Terror and finish rebuilding and democratizing Iraq and Afghanistan much like President Bush has done so far. I applaud you for travelling to Iraq and Afghanistan and meeting with our troops. I also applaud you for talking tough (much like Bush has) to Communist nations and their leaders such as Castro in Cuba and Chavez in Venezuela and Kim Jong in North Korea and not appeasing them as the Dem's have. I encourage to to also support our ally Colombia and their leader Uribe in standing up to their neighbor Chavez and Venezuala by demanding that Chavez supported communist rebels (FARC)in Colombia release US hostages, clergy and the like in their country.
As far as Running mate is concerned I urge you to consider the following loyal patriots and GOP candidates:
former Congressman JC Watts, Sec. of State Condi Rice, former Sen. Bill Frist and former Sen. Rick Santorum. I think any of these four would be a great VP and would surely help you win against the neo-Marxist liberal Democrats in November.
Unlike the Left (Dems. Etc) and most of the the rest of the world GOP isn't afraid of these towel headed muslim terrorists (redundant). America is much more powerful than them and we can whip them bad just like the we did to the supposedly tough Taliban and Saddam & Co. If we want to we can wipe those muslims of the map; no doubt. It would be nice. mohammed is a child molesting pedophile. Bring it on towel heads! You (Jihaders) will soon by joining the like of Al-Zarqawi, saddam and his two sons. Let's take them the way of the Dinosaurs!:)))Oh yeah! USA!USA!USA!USA!USA! God willing!
Remember though, a vote for Obama is a vote for Osama; don't forget that. Al-Qaeda also wants the dems to win! They fear the GOP. The fear Dubya and McCain that is why they have not struck since 9/11 ! They know Dubya and the GOP will retaliate with overwhelming force! Perhaps nuking Muslim holy sites is not off the table even. if we get hit again; it's been mentioned by some congressmen . Mecca might look like the Grand Canyon after! During the Hadj would be a good time I think. I would be dancing in the street and millions of americans would be too. God is great!! McCain all the way! Just like Muhammad is in hell! So are many treasonous American muslim leaders such as Malcolm X, Elijah Mohammed and later on Louis farrakhan and honorary muslim like Jeremiah Wright and Jesse Jackson
As far as Education in our public schools is concerned; I believe it is pretty poor especially in the inner cities. I believe you need to uphold President Bush's No Child left Behind program as most GOP legislators and some Dems have (ie. Sen. Lieberman) have. I think we should have set standards at each grade level and allow for school prayer as well. School vouchers /school choice should also be championed to allow disadvantaged kids (living in poorer-inner city areas)to go to better schools'; this is very important to ensure we develop future productive members of society instead of criminal anarchist/gangster types! Teachers Unions (ie. NEA and AFT)need to be eliminated or at least dramatically reformed I believe; they are very corrupt and do not focus on students well being but rather on the teachers' well being which is unfortunate.
As for National Security, I believe like Bush did you also need to increase the size of our Intelligence Agencies (ie. CIA, FBI and NSA) by hiring more agents and analysts and those linguists skilled in languages spoken by Islamic terrorists such as Arabic, Farsi and Pashtu, etc. Thanks to President Bush's efforts in this area we have not been attacked in 6+ years since 9/11 and numerous terrorist attempts have been foiled. You must continue this tradition for America's and our allies sake. You must also continue to work with the Sarkozy government in France and the Merkel government in Germany and Gordon Brown in the UK as well as PM Harper in Canada in combatting Islamic terrorism through shared Intelligence and the like. Also, keep aiding and advising developing nations in Eastern Europe such as Georgia, Poland, Ukraine and other former Soviet rebublics in both combatting Islamic terrorism (redundant) and defeating Communism as well by training their military (as we are doing) and sharing Intelligence. Also, keep up the good work in the Phillipines in fighting Islamic terrorism (ie. Abu Sayyef) and Colombia in fighting Communism and I beieve they could use more funding to improve and increase the size of their military and Intelligence services as well. This will pay off in the long term in protecting America from any safe havens for militant anti-American terrorist groups. 'No safe havens' as President Bush has said. We should also continue our long lasting friendship and support of Israel and continue to share and improve Intelligence with them as well as improve their military to combat Islamic terrorists. We should also adapt some anti-terrorist tactics that the Israeli's aboard their airlines and and airports, etc. use as well I believe. Ours are pretty good but could be better still I believe; see El Al Airlines.
WE should also start issuing a National ID card as soon as possible now that we have the technology needed to track would be terrorists.
I encourage to you also adapt the conservative traditional measures President Bush has on moral issues and that our Founding Fathers most certainly would have. Do this by proposing to ratify the Marriage Amendment (out-lawing same sex mariiages), opposing abortion (pro-life) and appointing constructionist judges like Bush did in Alito and Roberts. Stand up to the atheist ACLU and try to disband the Liberal 9th circuit court of appeals by permitting Christian symbols and organizations such as the Ten Commandments and the Boyscouts to remain in public places.
Also in terms of immigration, we should keep hiring more border patrol agents and keep building the fence and punish those employers who hire illegal aliens. Perhaps we could also
entice these illegals to stay in Mexico by giving aid to Mexico's northern border states to help develop their infrastructure and economy and even encourage US companies to relocate there to provide more work for theses Mexicans that way they will be more apt to stay in Mexico and not cross illegally into the US. In the long run, this should definitely work (I believe) to dramatically reduce illegal immigration and may even cause illegals in America to head back home to work in their country legally instead of ours illegally.
Of course, we must continue to build up the Military as Reagan did in the 80's and as Bush has done and increase it's size and continue to issue education, monetary (bonuses) and other incentives to join as well. As far as energy is concerned , I believe we should try to reduce to price of gasoline back somewhere between $1.25-1.50 a gallon again. If this cannot be done with gasoline than do it with an alternative fuel which offers the same fuel efficiency MPG or better as gasoline does. We have the resources in the US to provide our own gasoline we just need to be bold and take on the Greenies (Environmentalists) and start drilling for oil from coast to coast and offshore also as well as in Alaska and ANWR. Remember it's all suppy and end demand ; in order to bring the price down we need to increase the Supply -- and we can! We also need to build more refineries; none has been built in over 30 years (since 1976). America currently imports 80% of its energy in Oil; this is deplorable. We should strive to only import say 20% at most. But we need to stand up to the loony Environmentalists to do this and I believe you can do this. All the Global Warming hype is way, way exaggerated and I believe it is at best only 10-20% as bad as the Alarmist 'Experts' say it is. I recommend you read up on this hype in such books as: 'The Skeptical Environmentalist' and 'The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming' and others. Many members of Congress including Oklahama Senator James Inhofe even endorsed some of these books. We also need to focus on alternative fuels such as Coal and Nuclear power which we have abundant reserves of. Technolgies such as Wind farms and Hydroelectric dams which harness energy are also important and we should build more of these.
In wrapping up, keep up the good work and I hope you could put some of my suggestions to use someday. I will continue do my best to help you get elected President and have already signed up as a Volunteer and have donated to your campaign and will continue to do so and urge others as well. You are a great American for your military service and all your years in Congress as well as standing beside President Bush on important matters such as National Security (Patriot ACt and FISA)the troop surge in Iraq and winning in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Global War on Terror and a true hero to millions of Americans, including myself.
Take Care and God Bless,
I like Panama Mac. I think it is sick that those Ron Paul types attack him for being a bad pilot who hit the wrong button and killed a bunch of his own men. And then they go on and attach his wife for steeling from charity and using drugs. She admitted to those things so let them be. Now leave Panama Mac and his sick wife alone please. He is a good man who did the best he could for his country.
