Murtha endorses Clinton

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor March 18, 2008 08:09 PM

US Representative John Murtha of Pennsylvania announced his support today for Hillary Clinton -- and endorsement that is noteworthy on a couple of levels.

Murtha, a veteran congressman, is one of only two superdelegates to come out for Clinton since she saved her bid with victories in Ohio and Texas earlier this month. And the former Marine is a vocal opponent of the Iraq war who can help protect her on a key flank -- her 2002 vote to authorize the war that rival Barack Obama continually criticizes.

In a statement announcing his endorsement, Murtha said he believes Clinton can forge a consensus on healthcare, education, and the economy, as well as Iraq. Murtha's support will also boost her for the April 22 primary.

  1. WONDERFULL! Other super delegates must look up to Senator John Murtha, the most respected veteran and politician. Hey, pensylvanians, joint in with Senator Murtha to elect Hillary. Pensylvania will joint OHIO and TEXAS to write a new page in the history. Congratulation!

  1. Rep. Murtha's endorsement of Sen. Clinton is a disappointment to the many who see her vote to go to war in Iraq as a failure of leadership. The Clinton healthcare proposal of the early nineties is another glaring example of a failure of leadership. It was not only her secretive manner in developing her plan , but also the effort to divide healthcare providers from patients in order to sell that plan, that doomed that effort. The Clinton style of leadership can be described as "divide and conquer" and contrasts sharply with Barack Obama's efforts to bring people together to solve problems.

  1. Time to get beyond just the Simple Math. Who can solve Multiple Simultaneous Algebraic Equations?

    Murtha + Clinton = Pork + Corruption

    2 X (Vote For War - Complain Later) = War

    War = -$3 Trillion

    -$3 Trillion / Every Man, Woman and Child in America = $10,000 per person

    170 Delegate Lead + Clinton Win in Pensylvania = 160 Delegate Lead

    The solution?

    Obama = Next President

  1. Mr. Murtha's endorsement of Hillary is a mistake, and probiliy levered with pressure from the Clinton Campagin. For the same reason, to give Hillary some creditability in her VOTE to send our country to WAR. Mr. Murtha an Marine Venteran that has defended Our Great Country, why would he endorse someone that VOTED to send Our Great Country to War, after a report that Hillary was suppose to read stated that the reason for War was propabily not true! If we as Americans ingore this fact, and Hillary as Commander-in-Chief does not read a report and sends Our Great Country to War again, then it can be what she has stated abount John McCain, that Vote ordesussion just might take us into a 100 year War. I Deeply care for and Love my Country, and will not be taking this chance with Hillary. Mr. Murtha is either ingornat to this fact, or wants someonre in the Presidents Office that will Send (Vote) our soliders to a baseless War, was potically pressured in order to srtengthen Hillary mistake Vote for War, or just does not care about America. Well this American does, and I will along with 10 of Millions of other Americans, will be VOTING for CHANGE.
    BRING ON THE CHANGE, OBAMA 2008!!

  1. it seem to me that rep.murtha picked a key time to get his name out there in the headlights-i am totally with his disenchantment with the iraq war-but a nagging part of me says"he wants his 15 minutes of fame"-after i'm sure he's had his 15 minutes but just wants a few more......................

    Seems as the varnish is slowly being stripped from Obama, people are getting a sense of who he really is..and Hillary is starting to look a Lot Better!
    Looks like the tide is changing in Senator Clinton's favor. :)

  1. Hillary is not the moster that was said she is! Infact why don't people go look back when she was 10-14-16 and so on up todays date.Hillary in her schools days was for equal rights for the black/whites for all the people. If you people think she was so races,why did she baby sat for the black folks so they can go to work,and why did she fight for education then to.Now Hillary has done so much for the people.Look it up!
    Now---RevJ wright's he is a true racist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He dammed the white people,Dammed America. Obama,said he had never heard anything bad from Rev J wright's. Maybe saying that,you think Obama doesn't think it's bad.It came out.what else is Obama to do. He was there July 22 when Rec J.Wright's said these horrible unhuman like words. But, now Obama amittes that yea at times but still duck'n and putting the truth on the back burner. Obama sure he turned in 07 taxes which was said he turned in 8 years of taxes . his campaign,come to find out Obama only turned in 07 and bits and peices of the rest .He Obama does not say he did when ask if he did this or that.Oh no,Never..but has to come up with the truth when he is caught. I just think that any person who no matter white or black stays in a church who talks about this as Rev J.Wright's did has me thinking ummmmmmmmm. What this did.We were closer then we have been on race.Sure race is still around but,it's both sides black ,white or any color. Now what this did is I feel took where we were today and made steps miles long backwards. And I am so sick of the race playing card on any side. I have many friend who are of both colors and people white or black alot looks as oh wow....My vote is for him/her whoever.The thing is we have really inportant matters to address in war,education, health ect.Race I feel is being used as a way of brainwash'n Hillary has not really did anything wrong.It was said to be Ferraro,who said a comment.,Rev J Wright's took it so far.The race came started out from the get go.A video of Obama talking in his chuch about RACE.'REMEMBER i DID THIS AT THE END OF HIS VIDEO" to all the black folks in this church. Remember what? He is the one who is letting the black think that race is so bad now.it's not.He's is going back to the days.Going back.... What the Hell did we come so far for if he plays the way back then race card. Sure blacks are going for him.That's ok.But I wish we will take the time to listen to both people,remember who they relly are.what they stand for.. Obama is playing more of the race game.and useing us blacks to do it to become the first black president. Being the first black president or the first women president is what many thought would never be.Including myself.That's how far we had come.Let's not take miles back. I have not voted yet. I have not picked who,McCain,Hillary or Obama. Who ever I do.I hope he/she can do for our county.

  1. I have listened to many Black ministers defending Rev Wright on TV. They connect him and themselves to Black Liberation theology. I found this of interest because as a Catholic we have Liberatioin Theology. It is also concerned for the poor and seeks to empower them and is especially active in Hispanic and Brazilian Catholicism. Nevertheless as I have listened to Black ministers on Black Liberation Theology it is very different. Catholic Liberation theology is rooted in Christ's teaching in the Bible. As such it is based on love. I have not heard this in Black Liberation statements but I heard it in the words of Rev Martin Luther King. What happened to his preaching? He strongly preached the abuses that Black Americans suffered and called on the US government and the American people to live up to our great liberty documents. But he did not preach hatred nor dam the US and whites.

  1. This ATTACK on Obama is a concerted undermining of Obama's Presendential effort by the NATIONAL NEWS MEDIA!!! It is Wrong for the Media to continue to associate Obama with ANY citizen exercising Free Speech.
    "Every Black Minister goes off every now and then....including Ministers of all faiths and colors.
    Its easy to be in a large congregration of church members and NEVER hear the Pastor go off! But every now and then,most go off, not being Unpatrotiac,but speaking from the Bible truth to Power!
    Get off of this Unnewspaper worthy fixation on associating JW with BO.
    Focus on what BO has accomplished....We know who BO is and if you STOP smearing him YOU will now also.
    GIVE US A HISTORICAL BACK GROUND CHECK ON EVERY CANDIDATES MINISTER...when is that coming?????
    What you are doing News Media is worse than those words that JW spoke.
    Let it go and focus on issues important to all of Americans!!!
    I am NOT red or blue , nor am I liberal,conservative or color conscious. I am All American!
