Obama's barber says speech made the cut

CHICAGO -- Zariff, who mans the scissors at the Hyde Park Hair Salon on Chicago's South Side, cut Barack Obama's hair when Obama was a state senator, a failed Congressional candidate, and a US senator.

Now that Obama is making a run at the White House, things are different, and yet they're not. Obama was in Zariff's chair on Sunday, getting his latest trim, like always. "We gotta keep him looking good," said Zariff, who goes by one name.

What is new is the wall-to-wall coverage of Obama beaming down from the barber shop's TV sets. That was especially true today given Obama's big speech on race. Not surprisingly, Obama's barber gave him high marks.

"He said what needed to be said," Zariff said. "He took what a lot of us feel and expressed it nationally."

He added, "It touched a lot of people. It was beyond the normal political jargon -- it was personal."

  1. Yuck! If Obama is such a unifier, why then did he not spend time to unify black and white america within his own church? Instead, he sat on the sidelines and was a participant.

No more double speak , PLEASE.

  1. Lynn, tell all the Hillary supporters that it was not even the racial remarks that Obama's pastor made that were so controversial; in fact, as a white male I can even understand why some of the comments against white were made by a black male who grew up in the 50's and 60's. The comments that are controversial were the ones that were 'anti-american', and even these were mere expressions of a political viewpoint not condemnation from the mouth of a terrorist. I'm so tired of people using the tiniest little things to justify their doubt that Obama is an amazing candidate and an amazing man, so I hope your foot tastes good because you're all going to have 'em in your mouths when he wins.

  1. I think Obama turned the tide with this speech, the more air time it gets (and it is catching) the more the news media is going to feel a real backlash. Fox is about to feel like they've been punched in the face.
