Pressure builds on Clinton to drop out

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor March 28, 2008 04:15 PM

While many Democratic leaders would apparently be satisfied if the nomination fight were settled in June, two New England senators who back Barack Obama are calling for an earlier resolution.

Patrick Leahy of Vermont went the furthest, telling Vermont Public Radio that Obama, who leads in delegates and popular vote, is the de facto nominee and that Hillary Clinton "ought to withdraw" and unite the party behind Obama. "Now, obviously that's a decision that only she can make," Leahy added.

Still, Leahy said in the interview that he was "very concerned" about the trajectory of the race.

"John McCain, who has been making one gaffe after another, is getting a free ride on it because Senator Obama and Senator Clinton have to fight with each other," he said. "I think that her criticism is hurting him more than anything John McCain has said."

UPDATE: But Leahy issued a statement this afternoon that appeared to soften his position by not saying Clinton "ought" to withdraw. "Senator Clinton has every right, but not a very good reason, to remain a candidate for as long as she wants to," the statement said.

The Clinton campaign this afternoon rounded up some of its supporters' statements disagreeing with Leahy's call. "While I appreciate the loyalty Senator Leahy feels to Senator Obama and the concern he may have about his candidate’s ability to win, what he’s proposing would be like calling a baseball game in the 7th inning," Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said in a statement. "Let's play this out."

Chris Dodd of Connecticut told National Journal on Thursday that he'd prefer that the nominee is decided after the North Carolina and Indiana primaries on May 6 because a protracted battle would be "devastating."

But Clinton is giving no indication that she'll do anything until after the last primaries on June 3. Several Democrats, most prominently Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen, are calling for a primary of the 795 superdelegatess in June to put a candidate over the top.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean made the rounds of the morning TV news shows today to declare that it would be good if the superdelegates decided before July 1.

He also let on that he has urged the Clinton and Obama campaigns to cool it on the personal attacks, warning that they could demoralize the party's base. "I don't think the party is going to implode," Dean said on CNN.

  1. THE PARTY WILL NOT BE UNITED WITH OBAMA AS NOMINEE.

He is the most divisive force to rip apart the Dem party in ages.

The Dem.s are squandering this nearly certain, rare opportunity to grab the White House.

Obama will NEVER win the general election. The only reason he has so many delegates is because the media went easy on him due to the racial aspect, and bad stuff about him came out late in the game - more unsavory truths waboutoObama will

Moreover, Clinton supporters will flee to McCain [us included.]

  1. Clinton is hallucinating. She created sniper fire when there was none. As a commander-in-chief she will hallucinate in the middle of the night when the phone rings about North Korea and Iran pointing missiles at us. I don't feel safe giving her the codes to our nuclear arsenal.

  1. That is a great idea! The democratic party cannot take this protracted in fighting. The superdelagates should end this thing before it bloodies both canditates.

Many young people in the democratic party are disinfranchised by the structure of the democratic nomination process. If the superdelagetes take a proactive roll in deciding this thing early; the process will make a lot more sense to the youth of this nation.

  1. CLINTON'S PLAN:

    1. SENATE to Hillary in exchange for White House S3X

    2. 2000, Al Gore was not supported enough by Bill as he is TOO BUSY Cooking a VICTORY for Hillary in exchange for White House S3X

    3. 2001, Hillary VOTED for WAR so Bush gets backlash on WAR latter which is usual and can be used for herself

    4. 2004, Kerry was not supported early by Clinton or his Wing as Billary had plans for 2008 which succeed only if Bush wins

    5. 2008, Billary tried hard and CONCEDED a loss but not PUBLICLY. The plan is to make sure McS(h)ame get the Win so she has 2012 full secured chance as Failure of "YES WE CAN" means Voters of RACES,REGIONS,PARTIES will loose faith and not turnout to vote.

    AFTER ALL, THAT IS CLINTON.

Bright side of the story is, if You don't see OBAMA, VOTE McS(h)ame so you don't need to be ASHAMED OF in front of WORLD like BUSH made you.

WHEN WILL SHE KNOW THAT LEADERSHIP MEANS LISTENING!!

OFCOURSE, SHE DOES NOT EVEN BELIEVE THAT LEADER CAN CHANGE COURSE WITH WARNINGS BUT NOT LIE LIE LIE like she is doing on every aspect:
    Monica's
    Bosnia
    NAFTA
    Dream-Ticket
    Super-Deligates
    Pledged-Deligates
    IRAQ WAR VOTE
    ITALY PEACE.
    Falling Back on Wright
    Falling back on FL, MI
Not Telling TRUTH to Chelsey about how she let Bill have PLEASURES in front of her.

Infact, Her whole campaign took a U-TURN to "CHANGE" banwagon after seeing Obama's success.

a CLINTON can do ANYTHING (I MEAN "ANYTHING") to get "THIER" property (WHITE HOUSE) BACK.

  1. As part of the leadership of the Democratic party, it is Howard Dean's responsibility to bring this race to a close immediately after Pennsylvania. You almost get a sense that the democratic leadership is intimadated by the Clintons, and can't seem to take a decisive step and tell Hillary it is time to unite behind Obama. It is obvious what her agenda is, anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that.
One thing about Republicans, they are decisive, and you certainly wouldn't have Hillary still running in a race she can't win. No wonder we can't seem to put it together. I can guarantee you, if Hilary was in Obama's position, the party would have called this race and rallied behind her. Dean and his cohorts need to get som Chutzpah.

  1. If people really want to end the bitter in-fighting and unite the party, they should come out, endorse, and vote for the person, who has the most delegates, popular vote, and states: The should support Obama.

[ Supporting the runner up would only protract the conflict. ]

  1. Patrick Leahy of Vermont must be worried that Hillary will win over the Muslim terrorist Obama or he'd not have made the comment he did. I am so sick of simple minded Americans who only want Obama because he is supported by Oprah or because the Anti-Christ will somehow make the word such a better place. Most of them are kids who never voted before and have no clue about issues or the way government works. I was so right about George W Bush before he was even elected the 1st time, and mark my words I am right about Obama too. Wake up America! I am as liberal as they come and I don't really want 4 more years of this war in Iraq, but I will not hesitate to vote for McCain in a heartbeat if Obama is the Democratic winner. Hopefully he will slip up soon. He's not a saint! And if this doesn't get posted, I'll know that you are simpleminded as well.

  1. Yeah, I remember Bush putting that kind of pressure on Gore in 2000. Do democrats even know who the heck we are anymore?

We have the dilemma and the real possibility of the popular vote and the delegate vote not matching, and we all know how democrats felt about that a few years ago.

I think after this mess is over, we've got to get election reform. I like Sen. Nelson's proposal, because it does address having the primaries on different dates, thus bringing the candidates to the small states, etc., without it being the stupid, random, senseless idiocy it is now. http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/state/story.aspx?content_id=153bebbd-ae1f-4242-93d2-c1a93d052976 This isn't 1808, it's 2008. We're not communicating by carrier pigeon and traveling by mule. We don't NEED delegates and electoral colleges and caucuses anymore. One person, one vote - simple, fair accurate democracy. How much more of this are we going to stand for before we take back our elections?

If the Clintons had any concern about the Democratic Party or it's unity, Hillary would do the right thing and gracefully drop out and help unite our Party for the big fight this fall. 1. It's a shame that the Democrats, who seemingly had a shoo-in chance of electing the next President, have probably shot themselves in the foot by extending the protracted fighting between their two candidates. I normally vote as a fairly conservative Independent but was in hopes of a more viable Democratic candidate than the Republicans are offering. I don't now see that happening. I sure would like to see a candidate (neither party came up with one) that would be a fiscal conservative with a somewhat liberal social agenda but I guess it won't happen in this election. It would have been nice to be able to vote for a candidate that did not believe in legislating morals i.e. "Right to Life" or eliminating "Right to Die" and who would want to limit spending to what our income is.

  1. Silly.

Dem leaders can't see beyond the tips of their short noses
nor plan beyond next move on chessboard.

Both Hillary and Obama are damaged wounded goods.
For the good of country and party too - not important but imperative that
white house is wrested away from GOP and almost irrepairable damage
they are doing to Constitution and every American's belief that our country
has an obligation to represent decency, justice and the desrved respect of
    mankind.

Answer - while not without flaws - is out there, but requires leadership
of statesmen caring more for fate of country and world, than politicians
who narrowly focus on their own partisan electoral prospects

It is Gore! or perhaps, Gore-Obama! recognizing that his inspring
primary season was not an idle effort waged in vain.

Wake up Dem superdelegates! Make it happen before extending the Bush
governance disaster. We are in danger of seeing America become a memory of
what it once was and go off course from ideals that governed goals
destined to give meaning to our historical experiment in shaping
world's greatest opportunity to create a just humane society with respect
    for all families of man.

We've dug a ditch these last 8 years, before it becomes a deep hole it is imperative we empower a new leadership to start America on a way up again.

  1. Hillary Rodham Clinton is not about to "throw in the towel"! You must realize that in the Clinton's mind-set, this race is all about them. Both Bill and Hillary and now Chelsea relish the limelight. You must also remember that Bill and Hillary are from the 'ME" generation, (my generaton actually), I am sorry to say.

Hillary's quest is to become the first "woman" President of the United States. She wants her name in the history books for all time. This is what drives her and it is also what drove Bill Clinton. It is not so much about the direction and future of America as it is about the Clinton's selfishness. She is ruthless and cold hearted. One must look beyond the sensitive photo-ops that she displays before the camera and the shallow words she utters in her speeches.

We are in troubled times, but, we have seen bad times in this country and as a people we are able to rise above our misfortunes and come back strong again. Hillary Rodham Clinton does not have the experience or temperment to address the multitude of problems that exist around the world and more specifically here at home. Neither does Barack Obama, but the Democrats need a leader that can unite not just the Democratic Party, but who has the ability to unite all Americans behind a common endeavor. Had the Democratic Party been more insightful, they would have supported Joe Biden, (a man with a wealth of experience in both foreign policy and economic issues), but, the electorate decided they wanted to buy into this "Change, Hope, Let's Make History" rhetoric and they will find themselves losing come next November to Sen. John McCain.

    Obviously, America could do worse!

Democrats top leaders are guilty by inaction, They have selective blindness and deafness to the lack of discipline and erratic behavior that Mrs. Clinton is exhibiting in this campaing, it is an insult to the intelligence of the american people by tolerating the threats of this woman to go to a convention when she has awarness that the economy is sensible to race that equal poverty and social class, This woman has no capability to discern the flow of her campaign, her distorted perception of reality lead her to a tunnel vision to seek only what is in her best interest and not in the best interest of the country. I only hope that her unrelistic expectations do not leads her to an irresposable regretable act.

She is setting a bad example to american workers that it is ok to revolt even if the
cause is irrational, if this woman was my employee, I wood discipline her a long time ago. How are we going to hire a president with this type of resume? She is not receptive, she does not negociate......should we trust her with trillions of dollars, if you senators are unable to deal with this woman now, how do you plantto control any irrational decision in thie future?

It hasn't worked this time because even the "ignorant masses" can see Hillary has betrayed her party. Knowing she can't win, Hillary has tried to destroy a fellow Democrat as she elevates the Republican candidate. Hillary will try to sacrifice the Democrats and push one term McCain in the GE to make herself the 2012 candidate

If these new voters can be induced to vote in the general election, that's very good for the Democratic party.

  1. ABC’s Jake Tapper reported on an unnamed Democratic Party official saying that it's not a question of *if* Clinton can somehow secure the nomination. The question is -- what will she have to do in order to achieve it? The official's answer: She will have to "break his back," to destroy Obama and make him completely unacceptable. "Her securing the nomination is certainly possible - but it will require exercising the 'Tonya Harding option.'" the official said. Read full story here - http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/03/dnc-official-cl.html).

As the Clinton campaign spins Obama as actually being the reprehensibly negative player in this competition, and the media swallowing and regurgitating the most incendiary non-issues, (consider today's self-righteous "all I know is that if it were me personally, I would have left that church), I fear for the future of Obama's campaign, of the Democratic party, and the United States. I'm afraid we can't take another two months of the destructive Clinton ambition machine. Please contact the Democratic National Committee (http://www.democrats.org/page/s/contactissues) and let the party leaders no that we can't waste any more time; the train is nearing the bridge that's out, and it takes a lot to stop that kind of fateful momentum. Super delegates must decide *now*, not in August, to swing behind the best candidate in our generation so that the Democratic Party can look forward to the general election in November and beyond.

Then there is that bucket of bolts McCain (who backs illegal immigration and calls it amnesty) who is nothing more than a poster boy for AIPAC and israeli interests in the USA (who by the way should be on patrol in Iraq--but are getting the oil money and untold trillion out of the US) so this is one dead election. 1. I do not want Obama to be the candidate. I have voted the Democrat ticket since I was first allowed to vote in 1972. This is the first time I have had serious, fearful concerns about a Democratic candidate. I do not trust B.O. I believe he is being backed by very questionable sources that will use him as a puppet the way the Neocons have used Bush as a puppet. I believe he is entirely ambitioious the way Bush has been. B.O. is using the sway of his words to influence and move voters the way Reagan was able to do. Just to smooth and righteously, arrogant.
I know little of his background and experience, only what he has portrayed in his speeches, just a little too novelish to me...I know what I am getting with the Clintons, their good, bad, and ugly. I know what Hillary can get accomplished even in her abrasive way, but it is her. I hope she does take it to the floor and I hope more comes out about Obama's backers and background, it needs too, the good, bad and ugly, unless he is planning on sainthood...

  1. The DUMBING OF AMERICA! So this is what our great nation has come to: voting for a presidential candidate based on (1) his being Black, (2) having no national experience, (3) having a hateful pastor as mentor, (3) being Afro-centric Christian, with radical Muslim brothers, and (4) associating with a whole slew of shady people like Rezko, Farrakhan, Sinclair and Ayers. Wow! Obamabots are going about their political business in total DENIAL, as if nothing of significance has been revealed about their candidate. We didn't learn anything from the Bush Jr. years? Let's put another one on training wheels for the presidency - afterall, it's only the most powerful position in the world. NO, Senator Clinton must not withdraw!

Some of you people might need a refresher course, like watching the old Clinton Chronicles video. One could also just look into the Rotham family to see how she got her start in the political scene. Who are you voting for, and what do you really know about them you should really ask yourself that question or leave voting up to more informed individuals.

  1. This issue is absurd. A candidate can continue their run as long as they like, and so long as they have the money there is no need to drop out while they still have a chance. The odds may be steep, but there is still a chance (what if some new info comes out tomorrow that sinks Obama and gives Hillary her 60-70% margins), so the Obama supporters should just quiet down and let the process continue, unless they want to propose that their candidate step aside (since proposing that the other candidate step aside is clearly self-serving).

Btw, I notice that after mentioning that this race shouldn't include attacks, Obama includes attacks against Bill Clinton's presidency in his economic speech. I personally have no problem with that, but if that's acceptable (when Obama wasn't even asked a question about Bill Clinton) than I don't see why Hillary can't answer a question about Wright. Of course, Obama is then free to answer questions about Bosnia (but as his campaign is already talking about it, it's not like that would be a big deal).

Also, I find it ironic that after the Obama campaign quietly put to rest Hillary's hopes in Michigan/Florida (when he could easily have accepted a slight swing of that sort in Hillary's favor), everyone is largely agreed that Hillary's only remaining hope is to create the impression that Obama can't win in November (a strategy, btw, that the Obama campaign began against Hillary at least as far back as October when he started the "Clinton's are divisive" comments). Thus Obama has created the situation in which Hillary might have to at least make passing reference to the Wright issue, which still hangs around Obama's neck and will almost certainly be a big factor in the general election.

Obama should be trying to win-over the 28% of Hillary supporters who say they will vote for McCain. The way to do it isn't to smear Bill Clinton's presidency nor to have surrogates push for an end to the campaign (which runs the risk of leaving the impression with Hillary supporters that she was robbed -- fair or not).

Let's all try to calm down and let this thing play out. Obama and his supporters should be extremely happy with their situation (whereas they seem to be afraid and angry -- and rather eager to prevent the rest of the states, particulary PA, from having their say).

  1. Hillary needs to pull out. She has worked harder than anyone I have ever seen to manipulate, lie and coerce in order to get ahead - and she's still not ahead. People are truly tired of the Clinton steam roller coming through. They threaten, and twist information, this is as natural as breathing for them. I am an Obama supporter but I will admit that I wasn't always. I was at one time leaning towards Hillary. What this battle has provided, was an opportunity for me to really see her for who she is, and I don't like it. I have never ever felt that Bill Clinton should be back in the white house and now it is my believe that she should not either. She does not exhibit the personal ethics, nor the ability to pull this country back together. I think if nothing more the polls regarding how Americans see her honesty should be all the delegates need to put this to rest.

  1. RUN BILLARY, RUN!

I want to see this girl take this issue up to the very last moment of the convention so that in the end everyone can say it was the Clintons who destroyed the Democratic party and any chance that Obama had to become president.

Hillary's only practical governing experience has been as a senator for NY (about 8 years). Before that, she was Bills WIFE. She has never managed a large corporation as CEO, had to meet payroll, and governed a state, county, city, or any other government body. Obama on the other hand has less experience, and only knows how to vote "Present" when the actual phrase should be either "Yea" or "Nea"

For the life of me, I cannot see what the masses are orgasmic about when it comes to these two candidates, and Al Gore is the LAST PERSON we need in the Whitehouse.

Everyone complains about Bush and how he lied, but his decisions were based on bad intelligence, which isn’t that rare of an event. As a historian with a Ph.D., I could quote chapter and verse about how many world leaders in the last 100 years have made the same decisions based on the best available intelligence. Can anyone say Gulf of Tonken (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070602011441AAwoAUU)?

    Get over it.

McCain may not be the best candidate anyone would want, but compared to these two cowboys he at least knows how to make tough decisions, knows the difference between illusionary and actual sniper fire, and will put the interests of the USA before those of any other nation. As General Omar Bradley stated "true leadership is taking maximum personal risk for minimal personal gain..."

Both of these candidates are cut from the same bolt of cloth and are self-centered to the point of self –destruction. It’s like watching two lobsters in a pot pulling each other down into the boiling water just to make sure the other one doesn’t survive.

What’s that Cindy Lauper song….Oh yea True Colors

And I'll see your true colors
    Shining through
    I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
    Your true colors
    True colors are beautiful,
    Like a rainbow

  1. Well, NEITHER one of them has any experience (neither EVER ran ANYTHING) and both are UNQUALIFIED to be the Commander in Chief. Why should she get out? He's just as unqualified as she is? Both seem to be on a crash course to drive our country into Euro-socialism a la France. Who really thinks that is preferable to what we have now?

Hillary is only a potential nominee because she is the wife of a former president. She's as qualifed as Laura Bush -- that is, not at all (well, maybe a tad more due to a few years as a senator). If she was just Sen. Jones from NY nobody would even be considering her for President.

And Obama was only a state legislator two years ago. He's very young. Let him get some experience and let's observe him for awhile. He can run again in 8 or 16 years. He'll still be younger than John McCain is now.

Further, Obama's church is very racist and divisive. He has endorsed this hateful mindset by failing to divorce himself from that hateful preacher (his mentor and spiritual leader) and the radical church. It goes to his judgment. It shows a lack of wisdom and it makes him appear unready to hold the reins of power of the greatest nation on earth.

Even more scary is how anti-Ameirican his friend and church seems to be.

I think we need to beware of the enemy within. The enemies abroad are already trying to kill us all, why speed it up by handing the keys to someone who doesn't believe in our survival? I'm not saying Obama is as radical or dangerous as his pastor seems to be, but who really knows what he really thinks? He's gone squirelly on the the whole topic and it's hard to judge. His recent disavowment of it all seems very contrived and untrustworthy. Let's watch and see. Too early. Too risky to hand Obama our keys just yet. Let's not be stupid, people.

McCain -- even though I dont really like him either -- is the ONLY grown-up in this bunch and the ONLY candidate who will keep us safe and will keep our country on the right track for now.

  1. I believe that the only possibility Hillary has of becoming a respected elder
statesman (statesperson) and of a future in national and world politics
is to do what would probably be the toughest and perhaps best thing
she's ever done. And that would be to sacrifice her ambition for the
presidency in 2008 for the good of her party, her country, and even the world.
If done with the grace and wisdom that she is undoubtedly capable of,
she would be transformed from an ethically questionable fighter in this
tragic civil war to a virtually heroic figure. Let us hope that she can find
the strength, the courage and the wisdom to do so. Alan B.

To all the Americans: If it is not the constitution of United States, I bet Bill Clinton would be still the President for the last 8 years. If then...the Iraq War would be never happen;the government would have budget surplus; the government would be able to save the mortgage crisis in a serious mannor....
So why don't we give the Clintons another chance. If they can't do is, who will?
Think carefully, what exactly Obama can CHANGE in D.C. The consistitiution of United state of America? The President is replaced every 4 or 8 years, but game of Wagshinton doesn't change. At least Hilary knows how to play the game better and get things done!

  1. My appeal is to Clinton supporters. If a person lacks integrity, i.e. honesty, as Hillary has shown on Bosnia, it's simply a matter of time before their downfall. We cannot afford to look the other way and bury our heads in the sand. If we do, our country will pay for it. Our country cannot afford her. Siding with misrepresentation is not a risk, it is a certain loss. So, even if Hillary goes on and becomes president of this country, our country still loses. If this type of behavior is repeated, it's just a matter of time before our country plummets to a new low. It’s now our responsibility to take responsibility for our future.

  1. Well, I don't see how anyone who has really watched McCain over the years and the way he is acting now can see anything but Bush-III on the horizon if he is elected. How is falling lock stock and barrel into the waiting arms of the 'current occupant' and parroting everything given to him in any way being heroic?

I was skeptical of Senator Obama early on, but his efforts to sincerely listen and bring out the truth of things in the country is compelling. It won't convince any cynics out there, if anything they'll be more convinced he's a fraud. But it seems to me there was another junior congressman from Illinois in our country's history in a not-so-different circumstance, who was also a gifted orator, also lacking in 'experience' when he ran for office, and who happened to save the nation from certain self-destruction. It's hard for me not to be reminded of that when Obama is consistently putting forth very similar themes and requests to his listeners in his speeches. (Geez, could we even recognize Lincoln if he were alive today?)

As for Hilary, whom this article is centered around; if you scratch beneath the surface, beyond all the media fury, and actually look around and talk to people, much of the perception of it being a close race is really being whipped up by media sentiment and interest in keeping a story going. Add to this Hilary's unrelenting efforts to bend and go around the rules established by her party and quietly defame her opponent (worse than open confrontation) in order to get the nomination at all costs, including that of the health of her party. Maybe she really is a Republican. It would certainly mean 32-36 years straight of Clintons and Bushes up in one of the two highest offices in the land, something that is bothering me more and more as think about it.

However... the primary must be played by the rules of the party. Obama doesn't yet have the numbers. If the party needs to finish the primaries earlier, let them change the rules next time round. Hundreds of superdelegates are sitting on the fence for a purpose. Obama should try to convince them, not the Clinton team.

  1. I’m a strong Obama supporter, but I believe at this point, it would be the worst thing possible for him if Clinton withdrew from the race. With the race as close as it’s been, I think he needs the legitimacy of beating her fair and square on delegates (including the supers). I think her supporters will be more likely to support him in the fall if they feel their candidate got a fair shot, and lost fair and square.

I’m not worried about this hurting Obama or helping McCain. He has to fight until November anyway, so why not fight against Clinton right now? We’ll have plenty of time in August, September, October and November for the general election fight.

It will divide the party more if they try to strong-arm Senator Clinton into pulling out. I am a strong supporter of hers and if they pressure her to quit or attempt to it will make me less apt to vote for Obama (if he is the ultimate nominee) not more.

  1. Wow, no wonder the US is viewed in such an unfavorable way by other countries. This country is so divided and the citizens are so hateful that perhaps it should take away the 'United" and instead replace it with "Divided" It amazes that Obama has lied about his accomplishments in Congress, about his knowledge that he was present when Reverend Wright said those hate speeches, and in the eyes of idol worshipping supporters, he can do no wrong. My advice to Hillary Clinton, is "Don't Give In to Nancy Pelosi, Patrick Leahy, Bob Casey, Bill Judas Richardson, John Loser Kerry, and Ted Backstabber Kennedy. Fight to the finish, and forget about tearing apart the party. The democrats have designed their primary this way and neither candidate has the number of pledged delegates to cinch the nomination. If the Big Wigs in the Democratic party were so concerned about the Republican candidate being able to choose their candidate early, then they should have designed the primaries with winner take all. Then they would have had their nominee a long time ago. There are about 10 more States, excluding Fla and MI who want to have a chance to select the candidate. If Hillary drops out now, in order to unify the Democratic party, that does not mean that all of her supporters will automatically support Obama, even if she begs them to. In addition the people who say they cannot forgive Clinton for her Iraq vote need to look to the future and consider how to bring the troops home. Also Patrick Leahy, Nancy Pelosi, Kerry, and the majority of Congress voted Yay on the Iraq resolution, yet the voters chose to reelect some of these representatives to another term despite them voting for the war. Many of the posters on this blog are more venomous than Hillary Clinton. One would think that since the majority of US are christians that they would not harbor such hate in their hearts. Then they pray for God to bless America, but in order to receive blessings from God we first have to forgive other humans for their transgressions. It would seem that no matter what this woman does she can never be right in the eyes of her haters. Why is she judged so harshly? After all no one is perfect, we all sin by word thought and deed! IT IS TIME TO STOP THE HATING OF HILLARY CLINTON. Why carry around that heavy burden of Hate? The bible says to love even your enemies and do good to them that hate you. You will be a better person if you do.

  1. Why are we rushing into this decision? The election process gives the Presidency to the winner of the Electoral Vote after the conventions nominate the candidate best suited to win the general Election.

Senator Clinton has won the states that the Democrats have a chance to win in the general Election. Senator Obama has a less than 10% edge in the delegate count that comes from his wins in states that are not going to vote for the Democratic party in the general Election.

I believe the process is outdated and needs to be updated but it is the process. The Democrats need to take back the Presidency so we can get back to a healthy country the way it was in 2000. The Republicans have clearly shown in their history since 1900 that they are not the best party to run the country with their insistance on "trickle down" policies that clearly are another way of gaining more power and wealth.

  1. We sure are getting a lot of people screaming very loudly for Hillary to drop out before you and 9 other states get to vote. Do you think this is because they see her coming out with the popular vote lead and a gain in delegates that when put with Florida and Michigan would give her the delegate lead also? That at the end when looking at the winnable states for Novembers general election she will have won more of those states which would giver her the bigger possible electoral votes. So if they do not stop her before Denver that by the time Democrats get to Denver she will have the popular vote and the delegate count lead and the most wins in the right states and that would force the supers to vote for her and not Obama. Where is this article at? The math is easy to do. Oh also in Denver with the popular vote and a close enough delegate count to where if FL & MI are counted it would put her over the top it will be very hard not to seat them if a motion is brought to the floor on National TV to have them seated. The louder they scream the more afraid and desperate they are!

If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..

    You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)

    Best regards

  1. Yes, she will likely take Pennsylvania by 14% and gushes before the media, but it will not alter the delegate count or popular vote significantly. They split the rest. Nothing changes and the Superdelegates decide..
I can understand someone with her ambition doing anything to win and holding on until forced out. The Presidency is the most powerful job on earth, so one should not expect her to play by some set of mytholgical ethical rules of fairness, or care about the Democratic Party. I would expect a number of new endorsements by significant party officials to begin going to Obama, unless she wins big in North Carolina. Highly unlikely in view of the domographics.
I don't think that it hurts the Party in Novemeber if she stays, and helps Obama get better known and experience defending attacks. However, if she keeps up the scorched earth tactics, it may hurt. And senior party leaders should tell her to lay off the ugliness because she has lost, or they will end it immediately after the last primary. Possibly in an unflattering manner.
Bill was popular with people on the street. Just a shameless good-ol-boy that you wanted to hug and forgive him his sins because he didn't really mean it. The Democratic party machinery was never fond of Bill. Possibly they saw the self interest and his minimal concern for the Party. Hillary was never popular outside her core, which is not the party professionals
I would like to see how the Superdelegates explain to the average voter that they gave Hillary the nomination because she won the 'important' states, even though Obama had the most delegates. These are professional politicians who are the most risk-averse people on earth. One cannot imagine them risking their own jobs for someone to whom they have no loyalty.
They are not about to split the party at a time when there is a liklihood of winning. They will find a compromise to seat the delegates from FL and MI so that their voters are not too aggravated in November, but in a manner that does not affect the nomination. Her current approach seems to be that she has won the most states with large electoral votes . The problem is that her argument assumes that Obama will not carry those same Big states against McCain.
So it is very easy for a lot of party professionals and former Clinton supporters to drift away from her as it gets ugly. The tide turned when cracks in her supposed invinciblity appeared because of the string of losses, and Obama showed electability across broad demographics. The Richardson endorsement was important not because of Latinos, but because he is another old friend of the Clintons and Party Leader publicly saying that he will not support them.
And it is a signal that it is nearly time to end this before we all lose our phoney-baloney jobs. (as Mel Brooks would say and the super delegates must be thinking)
For a real dream ticket... Obama, plus Sen. Diane Feinstein, Sen. Maria Cantwell or Spkr. Nancy Pelosi. Real experience without the exaggerations, scandals and divisivness.

  1. Obama belongs to a church pledged to advance Afrocentrism............he is therefore, a man on a mission.........it is purposeful that he, a multi-racial as most of us are historically, presented himself on a partial truth of being black.

Race was NOT in the 2006 mandate, broken government, the war, the ecnomy, immigration were and remain so today.

This man has a narcissistic personality disorder (NPD-see DSM IV). In his quest for power he uses people, winks tothe lobbyists, will do anything....It is all for SELF, not for this country. Yes, it is PERSONAL and PROFITABLE.

Race is NOT the issue. Churches attended mostly by persons of African descent are Not the issue,

HATE SPEECH anywhere, anytime, by anybody IS THE ISSUE....Obama's "church" is far from being a church at all...it's tax exempt status ought to be removed!!!!

OBAMA, and now his list of Congressional endorsers, have failed us in NOT demanding a Congressional investigation into this particular church and preacher.
    What a bunch of NON-PATRIOTC, NON-PRINCIPLED, JELLYFISH!

We now know why Obama voted AGAINST a Constitutional ammendment to BAN BURNING OF THE U.S. FLAG!

So I ask Americans: Isn't it time for a CONSTITUTIONAL AMMENDMENT to have TERM LIMITS for ALL in CONGRESS?

and, would the CURRENT CANDIDATES be in support of such an ammendment when it reaches the Oval Office?????

  1. If this person happens to be somewhat reasonable and sane, she would have bowed out by now or will do so if she fails to perform miracles in PA and NC. But we are dealing with Hillary Clinton and the Clintons never know when to go home. Every morning, I switch on the computer, expecting to read ' Hillary finally goes home' or something similar. Oh god, please help us. Why are you doing do this us?
