Clinton emphasizes equal pay for women

Reaching out to her core female supporters, Hillary Clinton today kicked off a week-long focus on pay equity for women.

The Clinton camp launched a website where backers can compute their wage gap, find more information on the issue, and read daily blog posts from prominent national leaders.

Leading up to Equal Pay Day next Tuesday -- coincidentally the date of the all-important Pennsylvania primary, Clinton's campaign plans to host events highlighting that women make, on average. 77 cents for every $1 men make for comparable jobs. She has introduced legislation to strengthen enforcement of equal pay laws 45 years after the first major measure was passed.

"The Equal Pay Act was an important step forward for women," Clinton said in a statement. "It gave women a real chance to be full, equal participants in the workforce and to earn equal pay for equal work. Women have shattered so many barriers in the 45 years since the Equal Pay Act was enacted. But we still have work to do to truly level the playing field."
