Clinton hits double-digit lead in bellwether poll
Hillary Clinton could snag the double-digit win she wants in Pennsylvania today, according to an election-eve poll of Democrats in a bellwether county.
She led Barack Obama 52 percent to 40 percent in polling conducted Sunday and Monday in Allegheny County around Pittsburgh in a Suffolk University survey released today, a slightly larger margin than the statewide Suffolk poll done over the weekend.
Suffolk pollsters say they used similar bellwether counties to correctly predict results in prior Democratic primaries in New Hampshire, California, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Ohio. They picked Allegheny County because its election results mirrored the statewide results in the 1988 and 2000 Democratic and Republican primaries.
“A cautionary word or two: Past bellwether performance is a guide but not a 100 percent guarantee of future performance,” David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, said in a statement. “New bellwethers often are created every election cycle as people migrate and as development and geography-driven issues emerge. In addition, local endorsements from popular people can skew margins.”
Other recent polls have given Clinton a single-digit lead heading into today's make-or-break nomination contest, the first in six weeks.

As a Clinton supporter, I hope this bears out at the end of the day. My concern where this could fail to come through is in the same vein where the National Polls show McCain neck & neck with the democratic candidate. I believe those polls continue to contact the same voters as in 2000 & 2004 & therefore are not considering the large number of new voters, & in Pennsylvania, not only is there a significant number of new voters whom tend to be Obama supporters, but there is a large number of voters whom have switched from the republican party to Democratic. Do we really have a true indication of who these voters are leaning toward? Either way, I don't see how the Republican Party can think they have a chance in November when you have so many new democrats, unless the Democratic Party does alienate the voter.
Hard to believe when all the other polls show 6--9% and one with Obama leading by 3% (although I don't trust that one either). If Mrs. Clinton gets more than 10% I will be very surprised.
CLINTON WILL WIN BIG IN PENN
OBAMA HAS HIS CAMPAIGN STAFF WILL LOOK INEPT AFTER SPENDING MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO WIN THIS PRIMARY WITH THE POWER OF MONEY INSTEAD OF WINNING WITH THE POWER OF PRINCIPLE AND SUBSTANCE. THAT'S OBAMA'S M.O. - MONEY WILL BUY HIM THE NOMINATION BECAUSE HIS INEXPERIENCE AND LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY PALE IN COMPARISON TO CLINTON. JUST LOOK AT OBAMA'S SENATE VOTING RECORD: "EXTREMELY POOR COMPARED TO HIS SENATE PEERS".....JUST WHAT WE NEED...ANOTHER MEDIOCRE PRESIDENT WITH NO REAL EXPERIENCE AND QUESTIONABLE ACCOUNATBILITY ISSUES.
These "polls" are as often wrong as they are correct. They are useless to the general population and serve only to create hype in the media. The real news will be the actual results that are reported tomorrow morning.
The real news is that both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are just about as equally matched as could possibly be. They are basically pretty much together philosophically. The fundamental differences are in the perceptions people have about their personalities.
Personally, I like both candidates and I would be really happy if both candidates were on the ticket in November.
Its very simple, Mrs. Clinton must win....as a life long supporter of the GOP its obvious that when this brusing primary finally does end, either democrat will win in November, last night on Larry King Mrs. Clinton was gracious and too the point, that should she not prevail, she will, along with her husband campaign too the end to support Senator Obama...having said that, Obama will not be as gracious...he is a sham, of no virtue, the classic carpetbagger, dishonest, and perhaps, just perhaps too much of a dove for the doves in the Congress...he would be a diaster as President, unable to make a decision, unable to build international alliances and would destroy whatever prestiege this Nation has in the world by traveling for sit downs in foriegn countries with rouge leaders thereby giving them legitimate status in the world...he talks a big game, a big game about his single parent home, how he relates to the commuinty in chicago, WHAT? he came from surbaban Honolulu....he aspired to the finest schools in the land, and good grief, look at his home, it is a gated mansion....all of these things are good things, things we want for all americans and their futures, but simply dont tell us you can relate, when you never experienced.....I came from a single family home and stood in surplus food lines before the advent of food stamps and the independence card....he has not, and will not....sham, pure and simple, this is why Mrs. Clinton needs to win, she is what she portrays herself to be, the same with Senator McCain, he is what he says he is....at least you know what you will get....
Why must all Clintonites respond in caps ? Time to realize that doomsday is near and soon a concession speak is near. Obama is leading in popular votes and in delegates, can you hear me now ? Good.
The super delegates reason for being is to keep the Democratic Party from nominating an unelectable candidate. If Clinton wins another big blue state, the supers should start to question the electability of Obama in the general election. If she wins the big blue states head to head, why risk losing states like Ohio and Pennsylvania and likely the election with Obama heading the ticket in November?
Hillary Clinton recent claims to obliterate Iran or bomb any country that threatens Israel shows that she's becoming completely unhinged. She is playing a dangerous game in order show she has balls and get herself the presidential nomination. It is all self-aborbed political grandstanding. She will either win or lose and take the entire democratic party down with her.

No matter who ends up getting the nomination - Obama or Clinton - they are going to be hacked apart in the presidential race against McCain for dragging out a long and bitter fight. If the democrats lose to McCain - you can thank this dragged out primary face for it. The democrats should show solidarity soon, before they do more damage to their party...
ooohhhh plllllease!!!!!! How many polls are there? I just finished reading an article in the Chicago Trib that says Obama has shrunk the lead to single digits. The polling is out of control... either that or people are so ridiculous that they continue to change their minds.
And those who think McCain will be able to beat either of these candidates, you're seriously mistaken. He really has no chance against either of them. Were you around in 2000 when he let Bush basically make up lies about his POW status and his service? That was then when we he was relativly young and had some fire. Now he's in his 70's and looks like he needs someone to help him up and down the stairs. The guy is OLD! He may be able to embrace his age and joke about it.... but his mis-statements and diffiuclty remembering simple things like who is fighting who in Iraq is going to bury him.
Lets not even discuss the economy.
An unbelievable poll. Don't compare with other more creditable polls.
McCain will likely be the winner in 2008. Obama's ties to radicals and racists will sink his chances. The Democratic electorate has unfortunately not embraced Hillary Clinton as strongly as they should have. It has both strengthened the weaker candidate (Obama) and angered Clinton supporters. Obama is a strong liberal and the country would never vote for a candidate like that. Hillary has a stronger chance of winning in Nov. Too bad more people don't see that. Unfortunately it will be McCain in 08.
