Debate over debates
Get ready to hear the numbers 21 and 4 over and over again during the next few days.
Twenty-one is the total of Democratic presidential debates over the past year -- and Barack Obama says that is plenty.
He says he's not ducking another debate and has not closed the door to one after the Indiana and North Carolina primaries on May 6. But he and his campaign say they want to spend the next nine days talking directly to the voters of the two states.
Four is the number of head-to-head debates between Obama and Hillary Clinton since the rest of the field fell away for the nomination -- and Clinton says that is not enough.
She is challenging Obama to face off before May 6 anytime, anywhere and one-on-one without any moderators. She says voters in Indiana and North Carolina deserve their own debates.
The last debate, April 16 in Philadelphia, was also the most watched, drawing nearly 11 million viewers to the first aired on a broadcast network during weeknight primetime. Critics, including Obama and his supporters, said the debate focused far too much on the controversies of the moment and far too little on substantive issues.

Why should Barack engate in a bar-room brawlike Debate to make himself look Less Presidential? Besides Lincoln and Douglas were gentlemen with morals and ethics, something the Clintons sorely lack!
Dear Fellow Americans,
Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America
is and will face very critical "Challenges" in coming
years and decades.
The Problems will be tough and solutions would not
easy.
The key will the cool, calm, and collectedness of our
next President[ What I call Presidential Temperament'
The one remaining candidate who has consistently that
Presidential Temperament is Senator Obama.
His message of change makes sense. We have to stop
doing business in Washington old ways. The new ways of
lifting each other up and stopping tearing each other
down will not held our Great grand Nation. The
Terrorists around the world[real] and inadvertently
assisted by some shortsighted media [Who are party to
this perpetuation of psychological terrorism of
mis-information, dis-information, and duplicity], that
is what we do not need.
In order to send the message around the world that
America is get Senator Obama our next president. At
least on thing he has shown consistently is the
presidential Temperament. The Temperament of our next
president is very critical address internal and
internal challenges. Let us defeat real external
terrorists snd internal psychological terrorists once
for all.
God Bless out Great grand Nation, its diverse people,
and Senator Obama. He is the ans her to our future
stability, security, safety, and regain our status in
the world.
Yours truly,

To Obama :
As I say to my children - practice makes perfect....you could use some debate practice (not to mention a nap....).
To the people:
We need a President who savors work because there's so much to be done to right (not 'Wright') in this country in the coming years. Hillary is just showing us how hard she works and will conitnue to work towards the betterment of the country for all. We need Obama too - make him VP so he can practice more.
If Hillary miraculously becomes the nominee,do you think that the Obama campaign will lend her money ?
Hillary Clinton rides a horse.
Why should Senator Obama agree to something that is likely to descend into a guttersnipish political debate. His time would be better spent getting his positive message out to those that are still on the fence.
This race has been long fought. Clinton is on teh upswing and Obama appears to be getting tired. IF he can't handle these last few months... how on earth will he handle dealing with republicans, the media or other leaders around the globe. Denying an opportunity to discuss the topics he cares so deeply about seems a little strange. This is even a different format - why not give it a shot. hell you did 21 why not 22? I think Obama is a little scared that people are starting to see through the ideology vs reality.
I BEG OF EVERYONE - LET FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN COUNT.
Allow us to speak. Allow us to be represented. Allow us to be free.
HILLARY NOW!
HILLARY NOW!
HILLARY NOW!
I think it would prove beneficial to Obama. Hillary is so spiteful and lacking in both tact and integrity that her character would undoubtedly be her undoing in an unstrucured debate where canned responses won't fly. Regardless of one's opinions of the candidates, Obama is clearly better equipped to calmly and convincingly navigate a self-moderated format. She'd be on her heels and wildly lashing out immediately.
What a turtle he is... just because he can't handle the lost... he refused to do it. What kind of loser he is???? Should we vote for a loser as our president?
Obama is a joke...
Let them debate. The voters will have a chance to hear each candidate unfiltered by the press and unprocessed by their campaign committees.
What's wrong with being plain spoken and direct? A debate is the best 'no spin' favor a voter can ask for, no tricks, no gimmicks, just give us a chance to see for ourselves what these two are about at the human level.
We are picking a possible president here- no need to go into hiding.
America has a VERY short memory.....
The Clintons have, consistently, shown that the most important agenda is "their agenda". Have you forgotten that when it came time to run for the Senate, Hillary turned her back on her home state, in favor of the more politically perfect New York state? Has everybody stuck their head in the sand and stopped noticing that she rarely answers questions that are sensitive to her position du jour? Does the American public not notice the embarrassing position Bill, consistently, places her? Elaboration unnecessary...but in addition, look what he's done on the campaign trail! Her claims that Obama can't handle McCain are unfounded. That fact that he choses not to roll in HER mud, is just an indication that he's familiar with the "Clinton way". If you just take a good look, you'll see the Clinton pattern of attack. No sale here!
Who says she loves children but votes to continue using cluster bombs to maim them?
Who says the Iraq war was a mistake but voted for it?
Who killed Vincent Foster?
Who treats average working Americans like disposable commodities? (i.e. Fires all the average Joes and Janes working in the White house travel office as soon as she moves in?)
We will remember.
"She is challenging Obama to face off before May 6 anytime, anywhere and one-on-one without any moderators. She says voters in Indiana and North Carolina deserve their own debates. "
You know, Hilary, we do have televisions here in Indiana... the previous debates are just as much "ours" as any other state's.
Obama will regret this decision. He is playing right into Clinton's hand. He cann't see the forest for the trees. I give up on this guy.
he is running away from detailing what "change" really means!!
One of the greatest failings of our current leader is his style of decision making. He likes having few choices, little input from diverse opinions and then having his staff spin and pitch his decisions to make them the best choice. Most of our best leaders have encouraged all applicable perspectives to be presented in order to best understand the negatives as well as the positives of any decisions.
One of our three choices seems to have this style, while the other two are more in line with our current leader's style. One has detailed plans and intends to start implementing them from day one. In other words, that candidates knows what we need and intends to force it down our throats for our own good. I'd rather have someone with less experience, but with a better decision making style, and someone who doesn't believe that war is a first solution to international disagreements.
Senator Clinton went to Washington to make change and make a difference as the presidents wife. She went there with ideals of changing the way Washington works and making things better for our country, just like Obama claims he wants to do. She soon found out that changing Washington politics is easier said than done. I believe Obama is very naive, just as she was. But, Clinton has learned that it isn't easy, and that no one is going to waltz into Washington and change everything. She knows how it works and what it takes to make changes. She learned the hard way how to play the game to get bills passed and make things better in our country.
She also cares about ALL underpriviledged people, not just african-american. Most everyting that Obama has done has been to benefit the black community. What about the whitch children who are suffering from poverty and discrimination for their social status?
To Cathy:
Hillary needs practice with managing finances. She can't even keep her campaign in the black - how is she going to improve the finances of an even larger organization, the USA. Hummm.
The time have come for Obama to ignore the Clintons' games. The establisment for the past, like on cue, are doing to Obama, what they tried to do to Dr. King, kill his public character by association. How conviniently they forget Hillary used to work for a legal firm defending radicals, or that Bill went to England to avoid the military draft.
If we are serious about a change, Hillary is not the choice.
AS THE FRONT RUNNER WHY WOULD SENATOR OBAMA WANT TO DEBATE HILARY AGAIN. A REQUEST TO DEBATE IS MADE ONLY BY LOSERS NOT WINNERS AND HILARY IS A LOSER. I UNDERSTAND THAT SHE THINKS SHE'S THE FRONT RUNNER BUT SHE IS ONLY DELUDING HERSELF AGAIN. SHE KNOWS THAT SHE IS GOING TO LOSE NORTH CAROLINA AND QUITE POSSIBLY INDIANA. A LOSS IN EITHER OF THESE STATES WILL BE HER FINISH AND SHE KNOWS IT. SHE WANTS A DEBATE TO THROW MORE S**T ON THE WALL AND SEE WHAT STICKS. THIS IS WHAT THE CLINTONS DO. THEY LIE, CHEAT, SAY THINGS AND THEN CLAIM THEY NEVER DID, AND BACK STAB ANYBODY THAT DOES NOT AGREE WITH THEM...TYPICAL SLASH AND
BURN TACTICS.
THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND THEIR PLAN, WHICH IS OBVIOUS, IS...IF WE CANNOT WIN THE NOMINATION THEN LETS MAKE SURE THAT SENATOR OBAMA LOSES THE WHITEHOUSE...AND THEN HILARY CAN RUN AGAIN IN 4 YEARS. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THAT THE
CLINTONS HAVE BURNED SO MANY BRIDGES THAT AFTER HER TERM IN CONGRESS IS OVER SHE WILL BE LUCKY IF SHE CAN GET ELECTED DOG CATCHER.
HILARY AND HER LOUDMOUTH HUSBAND BILL ARE BOTH LOSERS. THEY LOST THE BLACK VOTE BY THEIR OWN ACTIONS, NOT BECAUSE SENATOR OBAMA IS BLACK. PEOPLE, BLACK AND WHITE ARE FINALLY SEEING THE TRUTH ABOUT THESE 2 POWER HUNGRY IDIOTS.
IF BY SOME CHANCE HILARY DOES WIN THE NOMINATION THEN I WILL VOTE FOR SENATOR JOHN McCAIN. I WOULD RATHER HAVE 4 MORE YEARS OF GEORGE BUSH THEN 1 HOUR OF HILARY.
Hillary, Hillary, Hillary.....
When you ran for office in New York, how many times did you get challenged to a debate by your challengers? How many times did you ignore the challenger? Records show she normally ignored her challenger's request for debates.
People look up her own record on this matter of front runners choosing not to debate.
With her low credibility ratings, who believes her sincerity she's doing this for the people?
Why not debate....... because he is a politician and knows that it is not good for him to debate. If he is supposed to be like lincoln why not debate like lincoln did?
Second, I am tired of placing all the blame on washington.... the same old washington politics.... come on..... it's like trying to rally the troops against a common enemy(i.e. washington)---- Granted there are more fools in washington than anywhere but going in as a neophyte is not good. What experience does Obama have? I agree with previous post that they should elect Clinton as she is getting older and in another eight years will not be able to run. Then Obama could be vice president....... he would be totally 100% electable in eight years with the vice presidency behind him. It would be interesting to see what he says about change then.
Let the crazy loon debate herself.
I'm sick of hearing her!
A horse rides Hillary Clinton
I'm pretty tired of debates and political commercials both as well, so I can understand how Obama feels. Now if HRC was to offer to have a debate sticking strictly to real issues - world food shortages and food riots, spiking oil and gas prices, a US dollar dropping like a rock in value, skyrocketing home foreclosures, high unemployment and CPI increases WITH the cost of food and energy put back in, the ever-expanding trade deficit and national debt... then Obama would probably agree to a debate. As long as it's going to be idiotic gotchas about flag pins, spiritual mentors (David Coe, Hillary? Like he's somehow better than Wright?), and the like, why should he?
Winners don't cave to the losers' agenda. Good job Obama!
Kyle:
Hillary has repeatedly requested a debate about the unique issues to your state....what other candidate has ever offered that, especially without moderators? Obama could care less about the unique issues in your state...he just wants your vote....that's all.
Obama is:
A: a flake that only cares about winning, B: a dummy that cannot talk on his own without prepared speeches because he always seems to "say the wrong" thing,
C: He is terrified of a truthful and sincere candidate (Mccain or Clinton)
D: feels above any real discussion about who he really is....
Take your pick Obama idiots
You have been been brainwashed....that is what little brains of intellect you ddo possess He is
If Obama had won Michigan and Florida, would Hillary be so passionate about "counting" them? Would she disenfranchise them, dismiss them as "do not count"?
You see, the real reason of pushing to count Michigan and Florida is not because they matter, but that they matter only because the majority voted for Hillary. We need a president who follows the rules of the game. You all know what happened in the last 7 years when a president did not follow the rules. Of course the establisment wants Hillary and McCain to be the nominees, since they will continue the abuse of power, because they have been bought and paid for.
~ J
Any unbiased observer knows that, were the positions somehow reversed, Clinton would do nothing but ignore calls for a debate. The only advantage Obama could get from it might be that Clinton would have to make attacks herself instead of having her lapdop George do it for her.
If Obama is nominated everyone I personally know is voting for Mccain....If Obama could not UNITE democrats, independents, and republicans throughout his campaign with all of his oil and lobbyist donated money then he will NOT be able to to do so for the election...or even after! The only people that will vote Obama are those who support him now, there will be no crossovers. He has LIED, he does NOT have the ability to UNITE, UNIFY, and CHANGE...he has worked to DIVIDE this nation and could care less about anyone beneath himself.
It doesn't seem like another debate would matter. From the looks of all these comments everyone's minds are already made up.
Hillary is a liar and a cheat. How could you vote for someone like that?
Hillary Clinton is only interested in one person....Hillary Clinton. She does not care about you, or anyone else. It is about emassing power. I don't like any of the candidates, but no one is more unbalanced than her. I would love a woman President, just not that one, and certainly not Bill running around with nothing to do. Its especially interesting to see his lack of self control now that he is "on his own" and not putting on the face he wore as President. We are truly screwed in this election all over again. Bush sucks.....and so do these three.
Enough already. We have had enough debates and contests between Hillary and Obama. there is nothing more to say. He is a great candidate. Let's start fighting John McCain so we can get down to business and take the White House. A more protracted Democatic Debalce serves no ones interests. ...not even Hillary's whether she knows it or not.
Obama has actually lost every debate so far, he knows it, she knows it, we know it and yet we don't want to really consider that Obama thought he could spin us all and keep his history a secret, at least until after elected. I don't want to vote for Ms. H, but I have to thank her for hanging in there and at least letting us know who he really is. I was fooled. Darn me once and it was so hard to see it and I still don't want to see it and I am black you know - I feel bad about this, but I can't agree with this man, not any more and I don't think he will be elected and honestly don't think he will be elected to anything else ever again. We have only seen 6 weeks of some of the "real" Obama and I fear what we don't know yet. He has played us for fools of hope and you know what, many of us are still falling for it. I pray for all of us, this guy ain't really black and he ain't really white - I don't know what he is...
DO YOU?
Obama is afraid.
The Democrats have two choices. Either to break with the past or continue the same old politics as before, divisiness, sleasziness and lies and turn the White House, the peoples' house into a house of ill repute once again. Our Country is suffering. Our economy is shattered. The war has soaked us in quagmire and dirt. It is sucking our blood dry.More than four thousand of our youth have been killed and over hundred thouasnd more wounded. And many more are going to die if we don't stop this insanity now.We are broke, physically, morally and economically. This crazy, uncalled for war costs us one billion dollars a day. What a waste, while our people go hungry, jobless, homeless and sick without insurance. And yet Senator Clinton says that is not enough. She says she is ready to bomb the entire Middle East if she got her way. Is this what we want?Ignore the Clinton selfish ambitions. The country comes first. No one family has a hold on the White House. What are the super delegates afraid of ?The truth ?Your cushiony political positions?Shame on you.Don't you have any sense of desency or patriotism ?
to bomb the entire Middle East. Is this what we want?Ignore the Clinton selfish
ambitions. The country comes fisrt. What are the super delegates afraid of ?The truth?Your cushionypolitical positions?Shame on you. Come to your senses.
Hillary needs to debate. She needs the free press. She ran out of money because this was never suposed to go on this long. She thinks she has earned the right to be president and no one is going to stand in her way.
We had impeachment, scandals, and lies with the co-Clinton presidency in the 1990s. WHY do we want them back again?
The only real choice is Senator Obama.
This woman always presents herself as DESPERATE,,,She just win the Pennsyvania, because Barck fumbled, and CNN, and Wolf Beitzer, Lanny Davis and their srews amde wild allegations to the JEWS that Obama thinks he is the messsiah and should be CRUCIFIED...It worked in Hillary's favor, but it was HYPOCRITICAL... Obama is a DECENT gentleman, but if I were Obama I would debate her, and expose her in every way possible..Even her pressure on Vincent Foster to commit suicide, She MURDERED Foster and lied in court., It is a SHAME that this lady is running for PRES., and these stupid people support such wickedness.,,In the last debate Obama was a GENTLEMAN. She was a DEMON..
The facts:
97% of the Black vote goes for Barrack
...he never grew up in the "hood," he CANNOT identify with the "black experience" and needed to attend a white hating church in an attempt to and still cannot.
...he had to marry a black woman who hates the US
...he consistently supports his crazy black uncle for his bizarre and off the wall racist and anti-American sermons because they are all inclusive with the "black experience" he claims to identify with...
...he grew up white, with WHITE parents (mother, grandmother), in a place unique to mostly well off people on vacations...
...he lived the WHITE experience, and yet the respectable African-Americans of the US are going to give their vote to this jacka** who has NO experience, not even identifying with his "brothers" because of his skin color?!?
Get real....this is 2008, not 1750
Hillary just does not want to spend any money on ads. She is broke. I don't know why people trust her to fix the economy when she can't even manage a campaign budget.
The real Lincoln-Douglas debate let candidates speak for up to one hour, uninterupted. Clinton wants each candidate to speak for two (2!) minutes at a time. To pretend that she is following in Lincoln's tradition of presenting substantive information to voters is ridiculous. What she wants is a machine-gun-like flurry of sound bytes. Voters are not well-served by such nonsense.
BARAK OBAMA
Integrity for a change!
He is in hiding and the facts are clear...
- I think people forget that in the debate before April's the previous was highly against Hillary.
- I think people also forget that over 70% of the press are Obama supporters and tend to cast Hillary in a false negative light, this was casted upon a few monthes back and although toned down, ultimately failed because they just toned down the play on Obama's Black Panther racist/hypocritical preacher, but destroyed Blll Clinton's image...now tell me is that really fair?
- Obama knows Hillary would destroy him in any kind of debate because we all are aware he is a style guy, a character, an actor, and she's the one behind the scenes, wic is what we need. :et them debate, they are presidents not actors tehy need to know the issuees and need to make theirbiews public not just press images

Obama Now Hiding from the Press
Ed Lasky
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/04/obama_now_hiding_from_the_pres.html
Barack Obama has glorified the role of words in moving history. He has relied on his oratory to propel his campaign. He has also advocated transparency and openness. Indeed he has made the public part of his campaign (Yes We Can).
Nevertheless, in the wake of a series of embarrassing media performances -- highlighted by his fumbling responses during last weeks debate with Hillary Clinton, he has now gone into hiding, avoiding the press and the pressing questions journalists may ask about his associates and his plans.
He fumbled the Charlie Gibson question regarding capital gains tax rates and showed himself to be out of his depth when handling policy questions without his handlers. This avoidance of the press is clear. He has not made himself availabe for questions from the press for 10 days now and the number looks to go higher
When asked about the endorsement by the Hamas terror group, he had a snippety answer, "Why can't I just eat my waffle" which echoes his behavior when confronted with questions about his ties to Tony Rezko, now on trial in Federal Court in Chicago. He avoided answering those questiosn and then stalked off from a press conference whining to the reporters "C'mon guys. I answered 8 questions."
Now comes news that he will not participate in a debate with Hillary Clitnon before the North Carolina primary. This refusal to answer questions from the press puts on display once again that Barack Obama tends to lose his appeal when he is without his teleprompter (see "Obama Unplugged" by Dean Barnett) and when he is not in front an adoring audience or a fawning press.
If he cannot handle the press and answer their questions-the man who thinks words are so important-how will he handle the world's tyrants?
Is he really ready to assume the Presidency?
I feel sad for the Democratic Party and it's supporters,
in that all they have to offer the American Public for there final choice of the Democratic Presidential Nominee process, are these two clowns named Clinton and Obama.
This Democratic Circus Show event has done nothing more than divide the Democratic Party.
I look foreword to when this Democratic Circus Event between Clinton and Obama has run its course.
I feel sad for the Democratic Party and it's supporters,
in that all they have to offer the American Public for there final choice of the Democratic Presidential Nominee process, are these two clowns named Clinton and Obama.
In my humble opinion these two clowns named Clinton and Obama have done nothing more than divide the Democratic Party.
I truly look foreword to when this Democratic Circus Event between Clinton and Obama has run its course.
We are witnessing what too much campaign money and a much too lengthy pre-election campaigning agenda brings--confusion, misstatements, and growing lack of interest in the process. We need senators on the hill rather than running from state to state saying the same thing over and over again. Also, I believe that Senator Obama would be foolish to be party of yet another of a nearly endless series of debates. Cannot the Democratic party realize that interparty bickering and mudslinging is playing into the hands of the Republicans and destroying the chances of Democrats winning in the Fall!
Obama. It is said. if you can not stand the heat get out of the kitchen If you can not beat a woman one to one . How are you going to beat an old man. When the going gets tough the tough get going. If you want my vote get tough and debate her
The problem with the Clintons, and this latest absurd gambit further proves the point, is that THEY are the elitists, not Senator Obama. It is the Clintons who prey on people's stupidity. "The people of Indiana deserve their own debate." Are you laughing as much as I am at the transparent idiocy of her attempt to isolate and divide Indiana's (as, one prior poster put it, they don't have television and didn't see the other 4 debates)?
Hillary is losing the primary. She stands nothing further to lose if she has a bar room (no moderator) brawl with Barack. Also, as another poster accurately attested, this would give her free press, free air time. The Clintons throw anything and everything at their opponents, in the hopes that something will stick.
I hope Indiana (and Oregon and the rest soon) show this miscreant wannabe coat-tail riding nothing that her dreams of power are best left to the kitchen where she herself says she belongs.
Obama in '08 and FOREVER we can put the race thing behind us!!
Don't do it, Senator Obama!
The Moderators of the last debate demonstrated that the media has little left to ask the candidates that hasn't already been explored. Additionally, I'm not sure the American people benefit when celebrities pose as journalists and dump on the few candidates left in this grinding process.
Shame on Senator Clinton for slinging the mud just to create the appearance of a continuing primary. While I respect candidates right to run and right to decide when to suspend their candidacies, it's unfortunate when a candidate like Senator Clinton uses the 24 hour news cycle to perpetuate myths about Senator Obama so as to breathe new life into a campaign on life support. Demanding another debate is disengenuous at this point.
Please no more debates. Hillary isn't interested in debate, she just needs another opportunity to sling mud. We are tired of not hearing about the issues and prefer to go to the candidates web site.
hillary - can't take care of her husband, can't take care of our country
What more can Hillary say. Throughout these debates she has continued with the constant negativity. She just does not get it, we need positives to begin to come about in a consistant manner. America has gone through enough negatives. Where is her honor and dignity. If she were to get into office, what in the world do you think she would do. Sit and spit out a bunch of negatives to everyone that she comes in contact with and does not agree with. Obama has shown that he can more than hold his own, that he does not result to insulting a person's character just because things are not going there way. America needs to come back up in the standard of how we treat other.
Obama campains against two big rivals at the same time : Bill and Hillary . It is David vs Goliath . When Hillary is Président , Bill will ask his share of power , a strange double-headed presidency in the White House ?
David posted: "I pray for all of us, this guy ain't really black and he ain't really white - I don't know what he is..."
So if you could just figure out what his skin color is, you'd know what he is?
Well, I don't know what *your* skin color is, but it's pretty clear what you are.
Barack Obama, John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Al Gore all end up in front of St. Peter at the same hour. St. Peter looks down at them from his throne in front of the gates of Heaven and thunders, "What have you done in life to deserve to enter here?"
Barack Obama says, "Well, I helped the poor and disadvantaged on the south side of Chicago and I brought people together across the country."
St. Peter taps the left arm of his throne and says, "You may enter. Sit on my left."
John McCain pipes up, "Well, I fought for and protected my country by serving in the military."
St. Peter taps the right arm of his throne and says, "You may enter. Sit on my right."
Then Al Gore tells him about his work in trying to save the planet from global warming and St. Peter taps the left arm of his throne and says, "You may enter. Sit on my left."
He then looks at Hillary, who seems to be chomping at the bit and he says, "And you?"
Hillary explodes. "GET OUT OF MY DAMN CHAIR!"
Even Sean Hannity now agrees Sen. Clinton is ahead in the popular vote when you count Florida and Michigan (which by the way are also states in our union). Dean also says now that the delegates of those two states WILL BE SEATED so If the delegates are going to be seated then the votes will also have to be count therefore Clinton IS ahead as of today in the Popular Vote and has won ALL the big states which will decide the general election in the fall. On top of that the newest polls have her 10 points ahead of McCain while Obama is in a dead heat with him. If you want to win the White House back then the best bet is Hillary. Obama will be forced to debate since he is no longer the favorite.
It must look so Presidential to American voters, not to mention the rest of the world, to see a candidate SO transparently scared of debates.
Whatever his reason, he looks like he's ducking debates, and given his last debate performance, it looks like it's because he's scared that he will lose.
Even the Daily Show noted that he was an incoherent, stammering, repetitive mess in that last debate. If that is the lingering image that he wants to leave almost 11 million viewers pondering, that is his choice. That, and his posture of fear in refusing to debate again.
Do people forget there are more than just Democrats and Republicans to vote for? These two parties have held the White House for so long, maybe it's time to wake up and realize a candidate from an INDEPENDENT party could be the answer.
J Duffie @53 makes a great point. This is NOT Lincoln's day. There are plenty of opportunities at each candidate's website (as well as other, objective sites) to compare their platforms, things not readily available in the 1800's.
Hillary, with nothing left to lose (since she's already lost), is trying to throw a "Hail Mary Pass" with her bar room brawl style with the hope (her only hope) that Barack slips on a bit of wet floor in the bar and she can keep kicking him over issues all ready asked and answered.
Go away, Hillary. No one trusts you. Not to do the right thing with your family. Not to do the right thing with your country. Just go away, you talentless bag of hot air.
Obama didn's seem to have a problem accepting debates when he was not getting tough questions. Now that he didn't look so hot in the last debate, he doesn't want to debate anymore. The kitchen is only going to get hotter if he is president so he better jump in an debate or get out all together. Terrorists and foreign leaders are not going to give him the same soft treatment the media does.
I'm going to agree wtih COL.[retired] A.M.Khajawall. Barack Obama (also) represents a new persona of actual(real) change.
___[]-[]ooa[]-[]____
"you can't teach an old dog new tricks," how can someone who has engaged in classic "normal" politics, suddenly change her way of doing politics and just so happen to claim (and slightly modify) everything Obama says? It seems somewhat ridiculous that everyone seemingly overlooks the fact that Hillary Clinton lies and "steals" everything Obama does. Hillary began speaking about "change" after Obama had shown success with the concept/plan. She copies Obama. What about that sniper incident? If she lied one to american public,She'll do it again.
Playing the game to "not lose" is dangerous. Playing the game defensively is also dangerous. Trying to stay clean while mud-wrestling is impossible. The "debate-no debate" question is a lose-lose for candidate Obama. Hillary can mud-wrestle like a demon from hell and that alone qualifies her for the presidency in some minds and totally disqualifies her in others.
I wouldn't mind an hour-long presentation, where each candidate was given half to make a case for my vote, free of each other, the press or anyone else. The tripe required of the candidates in the circus of the campaign doesn't really give me a picture of the candidate as president.
I just don't get Hillary's supporters. Why are you guys so dumb? Can't you see that Hillary can't do anything right. She spins things around. I just can't imagine Barack losing this nomination.
Another note, why suddenly have a debate with no moderator now? Where was that idea in the past 21 debates???
I DO NOT HAVE NOTHING AGIEST MR.OBAMA!BUT HE IS NOT THE PERSON
FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THIE GRAT NATION,PERIOD?
SORY!
No "DEBATE!" I served ! but not for "HILL''BILL'' and thier Draft dodging, Her - Iran kill em all, thiefing, lieing, rule changing, ------ is this "America?" Gosh I thought I went through enough at the Veterans Adminstration fieasco for my justice! I`d much rather spend another 1125 days Spec.Ops. not knowing if the next instant I was gonna still be alive, than even allow the word "Klint-con" in my house! Whats she got to DEBATE? I love "America" and our "Citizens"! Don`t dump them on us again! PLEASE !!!
To those of you who call Mr. Obama "scared" I would disagree. I want my president to be smart, don't you? Of course, you do, that's pretty much all you've been rattling on about for the last 7 years.
So I ask you? Is it smart for Mr. Obama, when he's going to win the primary, to put himself into a position of uncertainty, when he has everything to lose. And Hillary has nothing to lose?
I want a smart president, a strategic one (not a "stragerie" one), and one who WHEN HE'S WON (either for himself or for our country) DOESN'T THEN THROW IT ALL AWAY BY BEING GOADED INTO A STUPID DECISION BY HIS OPPONENTS.
He's not scared. He's smart. Figure out the difference.
To Cathy: Get your information correct when it comes to "THE CLINTONS" especially Hillary! The LOOONG history of CORRUPTION, LIES, SUSPICIOUS BUSINESS DEALINGS and practices AND SCANDALS that have yet to decease, continue to plaque these people. It is obvious that you bump your gums about things you actually know nothing about, rather convenient to be a PARROT. Investigate the Clintons history!
Hillary has yet to be transparent, WHY? Why has she yet released her 2007 income tax return or her earmarks? Something to HIDE, of course! And you back Hillary or McCain that continue to be Bush?
Hillary is telling Americans to believe her that she will bring back American jobs and WASHINGTON needs to do something about the NAFTA treaty and Colombia Free trade. Well, she sucked a good one when she said she was against NAFTA, but, yet bamboozled you to go for it and it would be a good thing and pushing for trade with COMMUNIST CHINA, increasing the H1B visa to outsource more American jobs to businesses that Bill Clinton has and is affiliated with in India and Communist China ( because Americans are too stupid to fill the HIGH TECH demands according to the Clintons and corporations). All the while Bill Clinton was in Canada IN 2007 telling the Canadians that she was only positioning and Bill Clinton and MARK PENN pushing for Colombia trade, HUMM, Suspicious? No wonder why this country is going downward and have complications with our international relations and allies when the blind eye has voted for G. W. Bush and Bill Clinton, Hillary and John McBush have FAILED with their 3am calls, Iraq, Iran, lack of diplomacy, acceptance of lobby money, being corporate WHORES and mouth pieces.
Want to be a true American? Be a good steward of our country and investigate what our candidates are about and their history, don't be BLINDED by false patriotism, ask questions of your state representatives and CHANGE your OLD ways of HATE (BIGOTRY) and acceptance of propaganda, most of all quit being IGNORANT! factcheck.org and snopes.com are a few sources for FACTS.
Rev.Wright said is the truth and if you did not take the time to hear the WHOLE sermon instead take everything the news media propagates then you are part of the problem and why we are in this situation. FALSE PRIDE is one of the roots of evil and our country has a lot of roots there and we must turn the page and change the direction we have been and start a better chapter of where we are heading.
Take the time to listen to the whole sermon and keep an open mind to the truths that are being mentioned about our country. By the way NO, we are not the richest country in the world. but have become the poorest and deadbeat that has more debt with COMMUNIST CHINA and Saudi Arabia, including Germany and other European countries that are buying up our money, businesses and our lands! NO, we are not the strongest country in the world either, but have become the most vulnerable, Go Georgy and Dicky boy!
And by the way, I am Native American (Yaqui)! Obama for President 2008!!
E Pluribus Unum- OF MANY, ONE
On a Side note, i keep seeing all these comments about how people will not vote for Obama if he gets the nomination...
Fools is what you are, not so much racists, but fools, go ahead and vote a republican into the presidency, just like it was done these last 8 years, vote for someone who serves you no purpose, but keeps putting money on the rich clowns that charge you $4 for gas...
... Good luck shooting yourselves in the foot...
i can not listen to hillary, i have to mute the tv when she comes on to avoid hearing her constant lies so a debate would be frustrating having to mute, unmute, mute etc.
Let's see how "democratic" HRC is in wanting to count FL and MI:
Caucus states don't matter. Red states don't matter. Black people don't matter. Young people don't matter. Activists don't matter. Just how exactly does she plan to govern by alienating so much of the Democratic party? She says Obama can't win states that she has won. Let's think. California, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey. She's delusional, along with her supporters, in her argument that Obama can't win those states. She's also delusional if she thinks she can unite the party after disparaging much of its core. Stupid, white, blue collar workers are a small subset that is dying off. This is her, and their, last gasp as a new generation of Democrats takes the reigns and elects its nominee, Barack Obama in 2008~
Here's a relevant number: 0. That is the number of debates Hillary participated in during her campaigns for Senate in 2000 and 2006 against her primary opponents. They too challenged her to debates, but she had other priorities then. Wonder why she loves debates so much now? Could it be she's only eager to debate when she's losing?
This is not an election for "most argumentative person". This is an election for President.
The one we want for President is the one who can best manage the country, not the one who can argue better.
Obama has managed his campaign well, an indicator of how he might manage the country.
Clinton has management of her campaign is dismal at best...
Good debaters belong in the Senate! Managers and critical thinkers belong in the White House.
Obama is a chicken. He's afraid to debate a girl!!! What are you gonna do when you have to debate a man?
Enough debates. Does anyone really think that much has changed in two weeks that we need to have another meaningless discussion between these two? This is a laughable attempt by Hillary to do one more "gotcha" as her campaign fades.
Well, here we go again. A debate on debates. Will he attend under pressure or will he cower in true Kerry Style? Is Hillary butch enough to wear the pants in Washington? To COL.{retd]A.M.Khajawall : You endorse this man who will not properly salute during the national anthem and who thinks it should be changed to reflect a less aggressive posture, oh like "I want to teach the world to Sing"? You're a disgrace to your uniform and country. How dare you even suggest that this man is right in his demeanor. You vote for this idiot. You got what you wanted from this "GRAND OLD COUNTRY" so to Heck with the rest, you're supporting a ethnic cause and not one of true patriotism. People have been clouded by rhetoric and not reason. None of these politicians are suitiable for office and yet we're having to choose between the lesser of evils. When are we going to get politicians that care about America and not their own bank accounts.
I say paint guns at 20 paces and be done with it. Anything else, after twenty some debates in the bank, is just too little to consider
MJW - You gave a multiple choice question, yet only gave choices A, C, and D.
You show the intellectual grit of a true Clintonista.
You HRC supporters amaze me. Always threatening to vote McCain if Obama makes it. Are you honestly that much of as simpleton? You prefer a continued Iraq war? You prefer a continued economic policy? Please get real. Moreover, regular folk (who aren't even paying attention to the elections now), will vote democratic, if their democratic. Period. Go on and make your threats, and keep being in denial.
Directed at Stratus and blatantly the issue at hand: This may sound crazy, but if we don't take care of our country, and elect a strong and effective leader, there won't be much honor left in our beloved flag. It'll be ridiculed, looked down upon, and beaten down to cloth on a stick. We need a leader who will support the country and maintain the worth of the Great American Flag and all its worth. (Stratus,) Don't say someone is a disgrace to a uniform unless you've worn it. Khajawall held the rank of COL. which is an O-6 and quite respectable (just under a general).
“I acknowledged the mistake of not having put my hand over my heart during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner,” Obama said.
“I’m gonna look at all of you at a ballgame one time to see if you always
get it right.” ---The questions have been answered and the issue overcome.
What about hillary lying to the public? I find it unacceptable to blatantly and
lie; Obama came clean. Hillary lied intentionally to get votes, showing her
mentallity ('do anything to win'). We need someone fresh, with new ideas
OF HIS OWN, WITH HONESTY.__hooah__
Regarding Wade's(#59) comments about Hillary and the popular vote. It is true that Clinton would be ahead in the popular vote if Michigan and Florida was counted, and now it looks like, according to the DNC chairman, the delegates will be seated from those two states. So in effect no matter how many delegates are seated ALL the votes of those states will also be counted in the total. So Senator Clinton would at this time be some 200,000 votes ahead of Obama in the popular vote. Obama and his campaign fear that even more than the few delegates gained by Hillary since you don't actually get much of a reward for winning anyway as is the case with the republicans under the winner take all format and is the same in the general election.
Hillary Clinton is worried about another debate......People in North Carolina don't want to her that same old rhetoric anymore. GET TO THE DAMN ISSUES! What about oil prices, crime, recession, etc.
OPERATION CHAOS IS WORKING.
Lovin' it....
A salted slug could win against McCain. All McCain has to do is try to garner support for 100 years of war.
Hillary is demented, desperate, and not even finding her own voice. She's letting her ex-Prez husband play dirty, dirty games in her behalf. That is stank. Every photo shows her with that wild-eyed power-hungry look on her face, and I'm frankly not sure of her motivation for wanting office, or her motivation for letting her husband do all the dirty work for her (who's the chicken? Hillary babee, you're the chicken -- tell your hubby to go rest, and do your own dirty work), or what she hopes to accomplish except more debating with a Congress that doesn't support her. She's out of her league with Obama. I'm not sure of the motivation of the women who are rabidly supporting her either, and I'm a woman. I HOPE it's not: "because we want a woman to be President". That is so freaking scary. If women are voting for Hill just because "it's a woman", our country can look forward to a terrible four years at the Bush-Clinton Timeshare, Years 21-24. Hillary did, after all, declare war on all the Middle East at the PA debate...
Forty million Independents have NOT been counted yet. When they are, Obama will win by a landslide.
How are these debates if they are run by a closed commission which does not allow third party candidates to particpate?
There are actually people who beileve Michele Obama "hates America." There are actually people who would post such an inane statement. We don't deserve an honest man like Obama as president. We deserve four more years of descent into a Bush-like abyss. I'm so afraid we haven't reached bottom yet.

DEBATE! DEBATE!! DEBATE!!!
It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.
Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her Pennsylvania victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources.
But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.
Hillary Clinton say's that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.
Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton's have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.
If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.
Sen. Hillary Clinton: "You know, more people have now voted for me than have voted for my opponent. In fact, I now have more votes than anybody has ever had in a primary contest for a nomination. And it's also clear that we've got nine more important contests to go."
Sincerely
Jacksmith... Working Class :-)
If you want to count all the votes then you need to add in the caucus states' vote totals too. Clinton seems to want to disenfranchise these folks. She is a tool.
