Faith forum scheduled in Pennsylvania

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor April 7, 2008 06:27 PM

It won't be a full-fledged debate, but Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will be on the same stage in Pennsylvania to talk about faith and moral issues.

CNN announced today that it will air the event at 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 13 -- three days before a face-to-face debate in Philadelphia, and nine days before the crucial primary in the Keystone state.

Obama and Clinton won't address each other directly but will sit down individually at Messiah College near Harrisburg, Pa., to talk to CNN anchor Campbell Brown and Newsweek editor Jon Meacham.

Sponsored by Faith in Public Life, the 90-minute forum "will consist of wide-ranging and probing discussions of policies related to pressing moral issues that are bridging ideological divides now more than ever, including poverty, global AIDS, climate change and human rights," CNN said in its announcement.

  1. If Messiah College wants to have a discussion about "human rights", maybe they should start in their own back yard. Check out www.gayatmessiah.org for details. The College is simply trying to gain national exposure with this little stunt and isn't concerned about real issues. Tune into CNN and find out which candidate can act the most "Christian" for 90 minutes!

  1. I just finished viewing the entire faith and politics forum this evening onCNN April 14, 2008 with Senator Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama. I enjoyed the forum but did not enjoy Barack mentioning several times about being a devout Christian. I have seen many debates but when did faith come into Politics? and also choosing who gave the answer most favored for the Missiah College Audience. I did not feel that Senator Clinton was given equal time as Obama did at the end of the forum were he signed autographs and spoke with the audience.
The forum should not have taken place in a Christian College but rather a public auditorium.
