Filmmaker Moore backs Obama, blasts Clinton's actions and words as 'disgusting'
Self-styled populist filmmaker Michael Moore is urging Pennsylvania voters to back Barack Obama today, saying that Hillary Clinton's campaign tactics have "gone from being merely disappointing to downright disgusting."
Moore, an Oscar winner whose documentaries have tackled subjects including guns and General Motors, said last week's debate was "the final straw" of Clinton and former President Bill Clinton playing "this game of appealing to the worst side of white people."
"How sad that I would ever have to write those words about you," he says in an open letter posted on his website Monday. "You have devoted your life to good causes and good deeds. And now to throw it all away for an office you can't win unless you smear the black man so much that the superdelegates cry 'Uncle (Tom)' and give it all to you."
Moore has far kinder words for Obama, but more so for the grassroots activism that his candidacy has energized. "What we are witnessing is not just a candidate but a profound, massive public movement for change," Moore writes. "My endorsement is more for Obama The Movement than it is for Obama the candidate."

I'm not sure which is worse for the health care delivery system in America: Michael Moore, Barack Obama, or Hillary Clinton.
They all support a government run system which hurts access and affordability.
It'd be great if they'd all consider moving to another country. Say, Canada?
Bill made a factual statistical evaluation, that if you win South Carolina on the black vote, LIKE IN FACT OBAMA DID, it does not mean you will win the nomination, just ask Jesse Jackson. Any of you super sensitive opportunistic WHINERS on Obama's side spinning this into something more are living in a fantasy world in your minds. Bill is a racist now? sure, and Reverend Wright isn't in your little fantasy world. Obama used President Clinton's factual and logical argument to enrage and aggravate people into racist hatred towards one another, SOME UNITER OBAMA IS. As a direct result of Obama's sleazy tactic, I will NEVER vote for him now. Hillary or Nader as a second choice for me and I strongly encourage ALL of Hillary's supporters to do the same. Make a stand against the lies and racism of the Obama campaign.
David,
The United States comes in 37th for health care. We pay the most & get the least with 47 million uninsured to boot. The healthcare system isn't working & it's due in large part because we allow pharmaceutical companies & insurance brokers to charge what they please. This doesn't happen in ANY other first world country. We need to move past the old 'Repugnican' tax & spend rhetoric here & realize our healthcare is in a crisis. Since we have government, we SHOULD demand they give us something other than $12 billion per month for an immoral war. 37th is unacceptable and 47 million uninsured Americans is immoral. We are supposed to be better than this.
Obama/Richardson 08
thank you moore i for one think the democrats big guys wanted clinton i mean the so called superdelegates they wanted clinton same old politics they cant decide because they owe everything to the clintons that should stop we are tired of that politics who ever is the demo nominee will win those big states, no matter what people are tired of the same old politics
To be honest with yourselves: The whole world know's that the Clintons (Hillary especially) are not HONEST! will do or sayanything to be in POWER! a BIG FRAUD! can't be TRUSTED! Make up STORIES! and HATE BLACK PEOPLE. Do for those black people who are voting for Hillary, if she wins which I doubt you will see her true color come out. You don't owe her or her husband Bill anything, just remember this when you vote today or anyother day. Hillary, (The Clintons) and people like the person as "Hillary all the Way" above will always try to keep the poor poorer, the rich richer, and people that are black or look black down. To them you are not worthy to have or do better then them.
Thank you Michael Moore for seeing and stating the truth.
Get over it, Obama will be the Democratic nominee and will become the first African America President of the USA.
barack obama is the only leader we need now. he is the leader who will give us real hope and real change at the time we need it most. he will unite, not divide. he will bring together the spiritual and the progressive like we need. he is the best candidate for the new world and also he will bring hope to the blacks and the blacks will finally get to have good familys and good comuniteis like the white people have been able to enjoy. he will help the african people and give them eduation and reform and money. and he can end the white peoples war too. obama is for true hope and true change and we can win. obama 08
I look at one main thing, OBAMA, has made his campaign around talking about the system, and issues that we face as American citizens, one being politics and how they have taken the average Americans focus away from the war, healthcare, and Out of control Gas prices.... Hillary has made a surge in her campaing by CONSTANTLY pulling up his past, mudslinging, and lying (remember her gettng out of the plane in Iraq under gunfire?) ... Hillary doens't even appeal to Americans on her own without pulling Bill along, imagine what impression she will have on other world leaders, and what's worse, is that she will have one of the world's strongest Military's behind her which isn't too comforting considering her influence on THIS war!
I'm volunteering for Obama but I'm not exactly sure how the "Uncle Tom" thing fits in. The Clintons are trying to paint him as a black radical, not an Uncle Tom. It was Obama who almost had to style himself as an Uncle Tom early in the campaign in order to be perceived as "safe" and "acceptable" to white voters. He's had to stay as far away from any black or progressive politics for fear of being mis-portrayed as the angry radical black man. Which is exactly what the Clinton's and Fox News have tried to make him.
Michael Moore blasting Clinton for smear tactics? That is rich!
Isn't Moore's whole career as a filmmaker based on smear tactics?
Stop making this election about race. Please!!! Life is hard for the human race, PERIOD. I want a candidate who will listen to her/his country's needs, and make the necessary changes happen. I feel that that candidate is Barack Obama. We need different perspectives to keep our country moving "onward and upward." I love the Clintons and what they did for this country, but a new generation is about to come of age. Growing up I always heard the song "I believe the children are the future" or whatever it's called, well those children are adults now and we are starting out and will have to take care of our aging parents and future families. Ask yourself, what you have in common with the candidates. The answers are inside of you, just take some time to really think about it.
Dear Hillary All the Way,
I believe in response to your comments about Barack Obama that he has put a lot of effort into not blaming racism for people's comments, but, perhaps, it is time that people examine carefully their motives and the words they use when they make comments. Instead of denying their origin and intent, they might heed the comments of others who, alas, are offended by their comments. The Clintons, unfortunately, have a well-deserved reputation for not being honest and for doing whatever it takes to win - not always taking the high road. I have noticed that Hillary Clinton will support groups and individuals on the one hand and then if they support Obama or if Obama does something that isn't in her personal rule book, she denigrates the organization or actions of her opponent, especially when she is losing. There is an old saying, "never corner a rat." I am saddened that she could not have run her campaign in a dignified fashion. This is one of the reasons people are so hungry for a change.
obamaBOO will be the GREATEST MISKTAKE IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICA. He's too raw and inexperienced. Also, he already displayed bad judgements in some ocassions.
It is about time that Michael Moore wised up and supported the candidate that happens to be the main demographic (young, left wing voters) for his movies. Good career decision.
Michael Moore is just as other stupid entainment stars to support Obama. He does not care the future of US, he just want people know he ia also popular as Obama.
Thank you, Michael Moore! Your endorsement of Obama will further ostracize him from mainstream, rational voters. Hillary should have courted you for the endorsement of Obama. Surely you have helped her campaign!
Michael Moore totally etrayed his own principles! I thought Micheal Moore's is so passionate about pushing universal healthcare for every American. I am wrong!! Michael Moore went totally opposiste to support Obama who IS NOT for universal healthcare, whose healthcare will LEAVE 15 MILLION AMERICANS BEHIND UNINSURED. Michael might not like Hillary personally but for god sake, if he is really wish the best for Americans to get universal healthcare, he should have kept silent not to endorse any candidate rather than going against Hillary who will provide universal hearlthcare. Now people can see Michael Moore is one of those HYPOCRITES saying one thing but do the contrary!!! Forget you, Moore!!!
America has already made the greatest mistake in history ....twice . It is called George Bush.
Michael Moore is quite obviously an idiot. Where was his outrage over Obama claiming every factual or historical fact was instead a racist comment? Did Michael Moore not know that Jesse Jackson won SC in a Presidential primary but failed to win the nomination? Did Michael Moore really think Obama would be in this race if he were not Black? Michael Moore wants universal health care but is dumb enough to endorse the only candidate for this nomination that has no chance of passing any kind of health care plan. I have now seen the last ever Michael Moore film that I will ever pay to see because of his endorsement of Obama the empty suit racist. AND TO THE BLACKS...When Hillary is elected please do not come looking for the next project you want because we will be there to remind President Hillary CLinton that she and we owe you nothing anymore!!
Totally agree with Michael Moore. Obama is the leader that America needs NOW.
Hillary voted for the Iraq War and Obama voted against it. She knew this war was wrong and she voted for it to position herself to be President. She's not honest & not worthy to be President. Think about the experience and credentials behind the Iraq War II (Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell, Wolfowitz, Rove) and know the limitations of experience before you decry Obama's lack of experience. Hopefully that will translate into few lobbyists calling the shots. McCain will continue the policies of a failed administration & this is our best shot to take back the white house. Don't believe the spin. 'Repugnicans' would much rather be facing Hillary than Obama. She is a divisive influence and her campaign has reflected that in spades.
Jodi,
You sound like the racist to me. David, get a life - as one from Canada who knows first hand the healthcare system, I rest peacefully at night knowing if I get hurt it costs me nothing for medical attention. Contrary to the misinformation out there, there are no massive waiting lists.
Hillary voted for the Iraq war - but won't admit that was a mistake; she lies about Bosnia - but she says she just mispoke (a whole story - five different times in a week) uh huh, sure. She won't release information on her tax returns (held nicely in the Caymans) She is a liar and a fraud. Jodi says Barak would never have got in for his skin colour, let me get way down to your level here and retort by saying Hillary would never have gotten her mercy senate position without Monica L. taking certain position on her husband. Now Hillary says she'll wipe off Iran from the map to appease her handlers - so, does this mean that once in office she'll be extra aggressive just to prove she has a set? She's not the man or woman for the job.
Obama is not only a leader that American needs now today; he is also being seriously considered as a great leader for rest of the world who has a great vision with hopes to show a true path for peace and happiness. Obama is the right choice for today's civilization. His vision toward humanity, development and drive to bring back of Americans lost image will, obviously, impact for other nations to re-think about Americans, as genuine friends for others. I urge all Americans to elect Obama as a new leader of White House
Jodi,
It's not that every statement or any statement of historical fact is racist. When Bill Clinton made his comment about Jesse Jackson, many people simply, and just asked themselves, "What does he mean by tha?" Many concluded that he was dissmissing Obama's victory because it came from black voters, which seems to indicate that blacks will always vote for blacks, which is historically not true, or that the black vote doesn't really matter. On that note, when YOU say "AND TO THE BLACKS..." what do you mean by that?
Not that an endoresement from Mr. Moore is all that great, being as controversial as he is, but he does make a good point about it being "more about the Obama movement" than "Obama". I agree and dissagree. Without Obama, there would be no "Obama Movement", so one equals the other, but not without the first.
I agree that Clinton is running a very negative campaign that the news media has run with. Focusing on silly things like a one-time comment about "gun toting citizens" of Pennsy (which most educated people agree with anyways, at least as a metaphore), or someone's outspoken minister are only two examples. The news is typically negative-spun, so logically they will focus on the negative candidate and their take on things or at least pander to the time-wasters who continue to ask questions like "are we done talking about his pastor yet?" When to ask the question is to continue the discussion. Idiocy.
For a while, it seemed - and, sadly, a short while - they were "accused" of having some sort of romance with Obama. Heaven forbid there be a positive candidate who has outwardly, intently, and with dedication - his natural instincts - tried to run a positive campaign with a positive message. Do you really want anything else?
How the Clintons are even involved in this country's political system is a disgrace to anyone that holds sacred a hint of family values, integrity, fairness, and the truth. Both Clintons are experts at manipulating words and phrases to mean something entirely different from what Webster or any self-respecting, honest human being knows to be right.
He committed adultry in the Oval Office. Should I get over that? I am. Should he or his wife be involved in American government from this day forward? Absolutely not. Perhaps Ron Jeremy is looking for a career change. He might make a good VP and offer a little extra-curricular activity for Mrs. President Clinton, if she's anything like her husband.
The Clintons are just non-sense. They threw a stick and the media is chasing it. I feel sorry for the less-educated who aren't prepared to engage the media with trained objectivity. The more you know about how the media works, the less influenced you'll be and the less time you'll spend watching and listening to the rhetoric. Moore probably knows something about that.
We watch shows like "Sex and the City, "Who Wants to Screw a Millionaire", and "Punk'd". Though entertaining, perhaps, if this is any reflection of the values we have as individuals and as a people, then we can expect a Clinton to be our next president. If we honestly think someone like a McCain and his seven houses, his desire to extend a war that is killing poor families' children, and his either direct or indirect disregard for the education system, fixing roads, and encouraging immigration of at least other countries' educated, if not the uneducated... then perhaps we aren't ready for Obama. He makes sense. And right now we are used to living in an environment that is the complete opposite of sense. May we be so lucky as to see when we need help. And not be afraid to ask for it.
The whole world needs Barak Obama, not just America, to sort out the incredible mess Bush has made during eight years of stupidity.
It is unbelievable that some people are so idiotic in their judgements...I mean really think on this Hilary is not BIll Clinton voted for him and loved him but his wife is not HIM please understand that our country is in such bad shape that whoever is put into office has a mess to clean up and furthermore deal with the issues...i got up early this morning to place my vote because I want CHANGE I'm tired of the same old same old you can bicker and state your views about Obama all day long and that my people will not change a thing, but Hilary is to close to the republican party she is only wearing the democratic name...it disgust me that the mudslinging has come to her being this ANGEL and him being so inexperienced BUSH was experienced what a laugh the joke of the day...look at us now...OBAMA in 08 for CHANGE not the man but the push to change...she can't do it THEE END!!!
It is truly sad that a good majority of Hillary supporters that I have heard on talk radio and read thier blogs, would never vote for Obama anyway, as much as you try and hide your hatered for him (which, if it's not about racism, I wonder what it is about). Time and time again Hillary and Bill have lied, said anything, tried anything and will do anything to win, this is not who we need for a leader. If Hillary is President, she just said last night that she won't hesistate to nuke Iran, she won't meet with other countries unless the bow to the queen. She needs to get over herself and so should her supporters, stop supporting lies, start working for truth... To Jodi, you are an idoit and deserve whatever comes your way, concernedvoter, act like a concerned voter, open up your eyes, see the truth and get over your fake outrage, and stop attacking anyone who does not support your liar of a canidate and husband too...
It's just this kind of viscious bashing of Hillary Clinton by fellow democrats that will insure that come November....Obama will lose.
As Obama supporters feel increasingly justified in acting with all the unfairness, reactionary bias, and vitrol of conservatives like Sean Hannity, they are driving moderate democrats out of the party.
If I am going to have to listen to nasty partisan rants for 4 years....I'd rather go ahead and vote for republicans.
When Obama goes down....thank supporters like Michael Moore.
Moore is absolutely correct!!! What Hilary and Bill are doing is disgraceful and has no place in modern democratic politics. Let's leave these tactics for our confused republican counterparts who can't find their way into the 21st century!
I can not imagine who would even care what a meaningless individual like Michael Moore thinks about anything
He is a clown who survives on hardship
First, Thanks Michael Moore, I believe in you and I agree AGAIN with your take on Hillary.
Second, Save your breath folks, blah blah blah. Its pretty much settled that Obama will be running against McCain. Get over it all ready!
Anyway, its somewhat fun to watch Hillary scratch and claw like the beoch she is!
Yeah, I used to like her too.
Gee, Hillary really pulled it off...Lets abandon this Well Grounded Storm Shelter and go get in the barn cuz it didn't get blown over yet!
This is a battle for the Democratic Nomination. It's a big deal. And in all fairness- both campaigns have played rough- but somehow it's only when Hillary's campaign does it that the media makes a big hay about it...
The Obama campaign does it in a more secretive way--like when they gave out free Dave Matthews concert tickets at a campaign event featuring Bill Clinton or when they blasted comments through a mega phone from a building next door from where Chelsea Clinton was speaking...the media doesn't cover when the Obama campaign does negative things like that....a double standard...I think Michael Moore should have done a bit more investigating like he does with his films before he called it for Obama..
Initially I liked both candidates equally. Due to Ms. Clinton's negative tactics and racist appeal -shame on you Hillary - I am 100% behind Barack Obama. Furthermore, I have never given my money for an election, beyond checking the box on my tax return that costs me nothing, until Ms. Clinton crossed the line. Last week I gave 50.00 and promised out loud that every time someone attacks Obama, I open my check book.
No one is seeing Penn for what it is, a battle ground where Obama was scheduled to be blown away by 31% widdled down to a 10% margin.
Go away Hillary, you are on borrowed time and out of real estate!
Play nice with Barack, maybe he'll throw you a bone when he becomes President of the United States of America. Perhaps a position on a race, ethnic panal?
Mike, could you please encourage Americans to give everytime Clinton or McCain crosses the line?
#22 "Obama is not only a leader that American needs now today; he is also being seriously considered as a great leader for rest of the world who has a great vision with hopes to show a true path for peace and happiness."
People like you who post irrational comments kill any chance for your candidate. How can you say such enormities? Obama wasn't able to do anything serious in his Chicago and now you expect him to change the world? He is using a typical socialist propaganda and you just believe it. Hopefully, Americans will start to see the emptiness of his speeches.
I won't vote at all in the general election if Obama is the democratic nominee. I refuse to choose the lesser of 2 evils.
In fact, Mr. Moore is not more than fat liar, racist and elitist. First of all, Mr Barac Husseim Obama is not US, is from Africa, were the politics be decided by the fire, second, looks his friends as his pastor waoo, an finally, looks when he becomes senator he it swore before the Coran and not it Bible!!!. Don't be blinds, be black is not a defect is a privilege but be stupid do not have cure, Mr Moore, due to this I supposed you do not have cure!!!
Sorry guys but no one has clean hands this year. Everyone has hit below the belt on occassion. What we need is for our lame democratic leadership to correct the mess they have created. Only those morons could come up with this stupid primary system in which two big states' votes and delegates don't count, the superdelegate situation and the ridiculous primary vs caucuses or both in the case of Texas. Remember we all are democrats and above all we must win this year! We have two strong candidates. A dream team. Somebody, somehow figure out how to put them together and then we are unstoppable! Get over the petty bickering and realize how much is as stake here. The world cannot take another republican administration so let's not blow it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hasn't the Democrat congress just done a wonderful job with our economy in just over 1 year? As far as far as the millions of uninsured, how many are citizens?
It is truly amazing. Go John McCain!!!!!!!!!
Dear Michael
As a Canadian I see our Health Care eroding daily. Our politicans would love to follow the American stye of Health Care for profit.
If I could vote I would support Ms Clinton because of her stand on Universal Health Care.
You have been a hero of mine but now you are making a mistake in not supporting Hillary.
The who slammed who in this race is not important, it is only the issues.
# 37 needs a dictionary.
"In fact, Mr. Moore is not more than fat liar, racist and elitist. go you for! speek king like, fun man. Koran, did you mean, ignorant one, says I. yer stupid. (now I'm negative
Oh, here is a real endorsement. LOL I could care less what Michael Moore thinks. We all know what a whacked out individual he is. I have only this to say. If Obama can not handle the slight negativity that Clinton has dished out so far, then how does the democratic party expect him to do when the republican party gets ahold of him. I mean do they really think he can run against McCain with no threats of negativity. I'm sorry but if you are running for office then one of the best strategies you can use is why the other candidate is not fit for the job. They are gonna slam him way harder than Clinton, she has barely scratched the surface. So, all this whining by the media and other types is just ridiculous. Leave Clinton alone and let her run her race, she hasn't thrown any slurs that wouldn't be brought up later in the general election. We don't spoon feed politicians here to a candidacy. Get a life Moore.
