Hillary parties at non-union hotel

Posted by Sasha Issenberg April 22, 2008 07:34 PM

PHILADELPHIA -- Local Democratic operatives expressed surprise when they heard where Hillary Clinton was hosting her Philadelphia election-night party: the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue, a grand old building on Broad Street that Democrats usually avoid because it is a non-union hotel.

In fact, the only Pennsylvania politician who uses the Bellevue for election-night events is a Republican, Senator Arlen Specter. Governor Ed Rendell, a Clinton supporter, has his Philadelphia office on one of the building's non-hotel floors, but he hosts victory parties a few blocks away, at the Warwick, a Radisson hotel with unionized employees.
