McCain, Obama say Bush should keep boycott of Olympics opening as an option
Both John McCain and Barack Obama have come at least partway in joining Hillary Clinton's call for President Bush to skip the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics because of China's policies in Tibet and Darfur.
While Clinton this week urged the president to boycott the ceremonies as a sign of US concern over the Chinese government's treatment of Tibetan monks and its ties to the Sudan regime and that government's culpability in the Darfur genocide, McCain and Obama are taking more of a wait-and-see attitude. They say Bush should boycott if China does not change its stances.
Obama issued a statement late Wednesday that said a boycott should be "firmly on the table, but this decision should be made closer to the games."
McCain said Bush should monitor the situation and keep his options open. Today on ABC's "The View," asked what he would do if he were in the White House, McCain replied, "Unless they change something pretty quickly, I would not go to the opening ceremonies."

America should boycott the whole, freaking thing. With the human rights abuses in China, they never should have been allowed to have the Olympics in the first place. It's sad to say, but things were better off when America dominated the Olympics selection process - and I say that as someone who's fiercely liberal and mostly thinks highly of the way Europeans (who now dominate the selection process) do things from national health care to actually taking global warming seriously.
Can you say CON ARTIST? can you say COPY CAT? Everything original idea Hillary comes up with, Barrack then copies. This is the biggest con artist this country has ever seen, and we've seen some! Saturday Night needs to do another segment!
This guy is intent on buying his presidency, saying anything he can and then will take this country down -- he will destroy us from within. He and Michelle HATE America, and they HATe WHITE AMERICA.
Obama Insidious Affiliations
The only possible reason why anyone would vote for Obama is because he is black.
This is the most insidious form of racial discrimination.
There is no way a white man with the same background and credentials could have even been considered as a senator.
Look at Obama’s affiliations:
- Mr. Rezko a major mob figure
- Mr. Auchi a billionaire and major funder for Obama’s campaign.
While working with Saddam Hussein, Auchi made his money through the sell of arms in Iraq and by stealing money from the Oil for Food program (no wonder Obama voted against invading Iraq)
- Mr. Wright a racist who hates America and whites and is reminiscent of Hitler
- Mr. Meeks who hates whites and gays and is one of Obama’s major supporters and super-delegate
- Mr. Ayers members of the Weather Underground, a group that killed police and tried to bomb the US Capitol
- Mr. McPeaks Obama’s military adviser and national campaign co-chairman who claims that American Jews are the "problem." and “Christian Zionists were driving America's policy in Iraq to benefit Israel.”
- Michelle Obama who trumpets Obama as “the second coming of the messiah,” and also states she “has never been proud to be an AMERICAN in her adult life".
The list goes on. Am I missing something here?
Obama and McCain are more sober on this issue. They didn't say anything about boycotting the campaign, but the media forced and induce them to voice some opinions to have their scoops.
If there is anybody think that America should boycott the whole thing, I'll say they are too naive because this is simply cold brutality to those athletes who have been training for years for this Olympic game.
And boycotting the ceremony is far from an original idea from Clinton. I mean, come on, how can this be original. A lot of senior officials in Europe have put this possibility on the table way before Hillary's phone call to Bush.
