McCain starts veep talk

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor April 2, 2008 09:54 AM

John McCain said today that he has started putting together a list of possible running mates and hopes to pick one before the Republican national convention Sept. 1-4.

"If I had a personal preference I'd like to do it before the convention to avoid some of the mistakes that I've seen made in the past as you get into a time crunch and maybe sometimes don't make the announcement right or maybe they have not examined every single candidate," McCain said on the Don Imus radio show.

Meanwhile, one possible name, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, talked up McCain, talked down the Democratic contenders as "unelectable," and downplayed his own vice presidential prospects during an appearance on MSNBC.

Romney said he does not expect to get that call from McCain, though he campaigned with McCain last week in Colorado and Utah and has said he would be honored to be asked.

  1. Mitt Romney is an intelligent problem solver. He is articulate and successful.

Too bad people don't like him.

  1. "Not like" is way to mild an expression when it comes to how I and a lot of other GLBT citizens of this state and other like minded equality sensitive people of all states feel about this jerk. Good God, send him back to Utah where he can flip flop all he wants.

  1. The purpose of governement is not to make billions of dollars for investors. It is to serve the people. Romney only knows how to serve shareholders. He was a terrible public servant to the Commonwealth...thats why people don't like him. Its a myth that succesful businessmen automatically make good politicians. Thats why we've only had ONE MBA as president of this country, and look at the mess he got us into.

  1. Conservatives recognize Willard for who he is. Of course, running to the left of none other than Ted Kennedy and then permanently infringing our Second Amendment for an entire state of America were rather large hints. ROFL!

  1. romney is a flip flopping, tell you what you want to hear person that did not solve any problems in Massachusetts, was pro-gay, pro-abortion, anti-gun control. he told the people in Michigan that he'd do everything possible to get their jobs back (automotive) and they believed him (while McCain told the truth (some jobs are just not coming back)).

    and he's a Mormon!

  1. McCain should pick the do-nothing flip-flop former governor from Massachusetts as his running mate. This guy has made a reputation out of being a venture capitalist. He may be good in business, but his signatured, fabled story of starting Staples leaves a lot to be desired. If it weren't for selling cheap inferior Chinese imports, Staples would have been out of business long ago.

On second thought, McCain should probably pick someone else.

Being from Arizona, McCain is going to have to pick someone from a large state who can deliver the state's electoral votes to the Republican. He will need someone either from Texas or Florida in the South or New York or Pennsylvania in the East.

Otherwise, he will lose by a larger margin.

  1. Wow...........

Mitt Romney is out of the race and the moonbats still feel threatened by him as evidenced by the idiotic posts before this one.

Hopefully Mccain is not as stupid as I sometimes think he is. Hopefully he will realize that he has to pick Romney if he wants to win.

There are millions of GOP voters like myself out there who supported Romney in the primaries that are prepared to stay home in november unless John Mccain does the right things and names Mitt his VP.

Mccain/Romney would hand destroy Obama Bin Laden in November. Osama Obama is a political hack who does not have the leadership expereience of either Mccain/MItt, the understanding of global affairs and keeping America safe that Mccain has or the comprehensive understanding of economics that Mitt has.
