Obama launches registration drive
Barack Obama hasn't quite clinched the Democratic nomination, but he's already laying the groundwork for the November election by trying to energize new voters and by providing an avenue for donors to give even more.
Today, his campaign announced "Vote for Change," what it described as an unprecedented 50-state voter registration and mobilization drive. The effort will launch with at least 83 events across the country on May 10 and has already launched a website. Four days earlier, if Obama can defeat Hillary Clinton in both Indiana and North Carolina, it's possible, though not likely, that he could force Clinton from the race.
"If we’re going to push back on the special interests and finally solve the challenges we face, we’re going to need everyone to get involved," Obama said in a statement. "Over the next six months, Vote for Change is going to bring new participants into the process, adding scores of new voices to this critical dialogue about our future. I started my career as a community organizer, and I worked to register voters in communities where hope was all but lost. I’ve seen what can happen when Americans re-engage and take ownership in the process."
The campaign takes credit for registering more than 200,000 new Democrats in Pennsylvania, more than 165,000 in North Carolina, and more than 150,000 new Democrats in Indiana. Obama has won the overwhelming majority of new voters in primaries and caucuses so far.
Also, Obama's campaign is setting up a joint fund-raising committee with the Democratic National Committee, according to the political blogs of the New York Times and Time magazine.
The arrangement allows donors to write one large check to be divided between the candidate and the national party, which can use its share to help the candidate, with some restrictions. The contribution limit is $28,500, compared to $2,300 for the general election for donations directly to a candidate.
John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, and the Republican National Committee already have a joint committee. So far, Hillary Clinton does not have the same arrangement, usually done for the nominee.

Boy this guy is not kidding... He has got this down... while McCain is on holiday, Obama is preparing to energize the whole country into voting. No longer will we be able to say that only a small minority of voters get to dictate who our president will be.
The Obama campaign has proved to have superb organization, be innovating, energizing and creative.
Where do I sign up to help. I have been energized by Obama for months now and I can't wait to follow him in improving he country. The United States cannot take any more of this same old same old Washington insider governing. We need his leadership and management and I am glad he is from the heart land. He understands us. I am from a small state and we are just as important as those big states hillary claims are the most important. Enough of her ruthlessness. Lets get on with business, our Country can't wait. any longer.
THE BEST WAY TO DEFEAT HIS [HILLATY AND MCCAIN] OPPONENTS IS TO GO FOR RESOUNDING CHANGE. THAT IS [CHANGE] WHAT OUR GREATGRAND NATION NEEDS TO ADDRESS OUR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CHALLANGES PRESENT AND FUTURE.
.
The guy has no command of economics as he shown this week in his comments regarding the price of oil and market shifts related there-to-fore...He will in no way be ready on Day One to sit opposite our adversaries and protect our sovereign interests. His association with the Rev. Wright and with Bill Ayers are frightening thoughts...Heck, Trent Lott was thrown for the Senate for his stupid comments on the Civil War et al...
How can a man with so little experience be this close to the White House????Thank you Boston Globe, Washington Post, NBC, CBS, CNN, ABC et al
Frankly, Obama is a socialist and we aren't a country prepared to move in that direction, thank you!
Barach Oboma was a follower of the Reverend Wright for a number of years and has talked on the good things the minister has done (in his opinion) but not much about the false accusations made by him and his church concerning their concern for the egregious acts they claim were committed by the U.S. Govt.
Now Barrach is affiliated with George Soros –his second and current mentor- whose views about our society and politics are well known by the liberal community. The latest speech made by Barrach closely reflect George’s views on our country and his political science views namely the validity of our constitutional rights including- the right to bear arms and freedom of religion. Both of these are basic rights and not up for debate by anybody including junior senators.
I remember the Communists used to refer to our freedom of religion as a narcotic of the masses’ .I am concerned that Barach’s speech was a trial balloon to see how the public will react to Barach’s/ George Soros political opinions and the direction they want the United States to go. From what I have heard, the response has not been favorable to the Oboma / Soros remarks and has instead resulted in a greater scrutiny by the citizens of the United States of Oboma views, friends and fellow travelers.
