Pelosi not in favor of 'dream ticket'
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has said she doesn't believe the so-called dream ticket of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will happen, went a step farther today and said she doesn't want it to materialize.
"I don’t think it’s a good idea," she said in an interview to air tonight on CNN's "Larry King Live."
"I think that first of all that the candidates, whoever he or she may be, should choose his or her own vice presidential candidate," the California congresswoman continued. "I think that’s appropriate. That’s where you would see the comfort level on not only how to run, but how to govern the country and there’s plenty of talent to go around or a good strong ticket. I’m not one of those who thinks that that’s a good ticket."
Some Democrats believe that because the coalitions of Clinton and Obama have been so different in the nomination contests so far -- older, white, and blue-collar voters for Clinton, and younger, black, and more affluent voters for Obama -- having both on the ticket is the best way to unite the party for the fall.
Pelosi, who will be chairwoman of the Democratic National Convention in late August, reiterated that she wants the nomination decided well before then and does not want a brokered convention, which she said would give the nominee too little time to mount an effective campaign against Republican John McCain.

Long ago in a land far away, well the one in fairy tales, I thought that a Clinton presidency for four years with Obama as vice president to get some foreign policy exposure and on the job seasoning under the belt would be a dream ticket. After four years Clinton would graciously step aside and Obama would go on to win two terms as our "peace and prosperity" president. That was before this demeaning primary season and the fracturing of the thin veneer of both candidates. I will hold my nose and vote for the Democratic victor and wish I had slept through the whole thing. OC.
Hilary is so yesterday.....that said I think an Obama/Clinton ticket would be a living nightmare. Any respect or trust I ever had for her is long gone as she has degraded herself to a degree I'd not thought possible. She would drag him down and he's too classy for her. BTW I'm a white middle aged women and everyone I know is an Obama supporter, so I don't understand the tedious spin about "white older women" . Hilary is more ' male' than most men I know. I would never trust Hilary that close to the White House. Obama is the first breath of fresh air and hope I've seen since Robert Kennedy. Obama envisions a new approach to government and the way we live and relate to our world and each other. There is a movement stirring and at some point nothing will be able to stop it--whether it will be Obama or not. Check our Walter Winks': Engaging the Powers or Cornel West, there are many others as well. The world is shifting and our future depends on doing things differntly.
For the united elitist Democratic/Republican party Barack Obama was never really a realistic consideration. He was put there to inspire an appearence of election legitimacy only. Hillary Clinton is destine to take the presidential seat. Pelosi is reflecting this sad reality. Hillary Clinton is the only candidate who will further the elites globalist agenda while helping the expansion of Israel. With Obama as the president and Hillary as vice president, or the other way around, the Bush mafia's number one girl Hillary Clinton could not effectively conduct further attacks on the American Constitution, rule of law and long appreciated way of life.
I'm on same page with OldChap and Hyatt. Lately I am thinking so, okay, if these tactics and racial prejudice deprive of us a greatness such as comes with Obama, perhaps the door has opened this much now. All the ignited youth will only grow in experience and awareness. Us elders can provide historical perspective and wisdom. If this insanity steals our hopes this time, it will only be a moment as the old politics slowly self-destruct.
If not now, tomorrow. The whole drama is a learning experience. We are seeing all the elected people respond to it and in that we can learn their quality and meaning. The fierce urgency of now has to do with the needs of the planet, and for the future to have meaning, we must be responsible, sharing, including, mature, and wise.
None of those things come with the Clintons. Not one. All come with Obama, and more. So if the fierce urgency of now has to be later or never, then all we can do is learn, hold accountable those who dissemble for advantage and power, and keep on learning.
Oldchap, you took the words right out of my mouth. I thought both Clinton and Obama would be the enlightened candidates of the future, changing politics forever.
Hillary crawls through the muck and is dragging Obama down with her and its business as usual. Hold your nose is right, just like the last 3 Presidential elections.
Why can't this country believe that we deserve better!?
Why do democrats care about Bill Clinton? He cost the democrats congress after only two years. He squandered the country’s attention to social programs with his sexual follies and humiliated the office of president by his lies. Now he wags his finger and reveals his sociopath behavior by blaming the victim of his, Clinton's, own racial slurs by saying the equivalent of ‘the devil made me do it’. He is a liar with no moral base and so is Hillary.
