If Mitt Romney isn't auditioning to be John McCain's running mate, he's doing a rather good impersonation.
On National Journal On Air today, Romney strongly defended McCain's tax cut policies and promoted his promises to slice spending.
The former Massachusetts governor also took a whack at Democratic front-runner Barack Obama, saying that recent controversies are showing who he really is and calling him inexperienced and a "quintessential politician."
"Now we're getting a better view of Barack Obama as not just the liberal, but the political liberal that he is," said Romney, who is campaigning for McCain and has said he would be honored to be asked to be the vice presidential nominee.

The fact of the matter is, if we as republicans don't become united behind McCain, then we fall come next fall, where is Huckabee, Guilianti, Thompson, at one point they wanted to lead this nation, so where is their leadership in getting behind the GOP nominee to unite against the Democrates. So are they leaders or are they sore losers. I wish they were more like Romney. Let's pull together.
Mitt is the perfect VP. He is the only one that understands the economy. I am a dem and wont vote for stupid Hillary he is owned by the drug companies and I wont vote for a moron like Obama who doesn't understand how to budget his own money. I am a democrat who will vote for mitt is he is the VP.
I think Mitt Romney would be an excellent vice president and an excellent president. He can really help this nation.
do it McCain. Just announce that Romney is your veep of choice, and you'll open the fundraising floodgates.
In the words of the 80's Nike commercial:
Just Do It.
yes yes, yes mitt romney for vice president
For the sake of the economy and leadership Romney is the right choice.
The fact of the matter is, folks, that if you don't start saying no to the lesser of evils now, it is only going to be greater evils to choose between next time. Why? Because you keep giving them your permission to be evil.
For God's sake, gather up some courage and say no! Vote Libertarian.

Romney has my vote, along with whoever comes along with him for the ride.
If Romey's not on the ticket in November in some way, shape or form, I'm writing him in.
I was wondering myself about the animosity several of Huckabee's buddies still exhibit against Romney (nomittvp !! And this animosity in the name of religion...PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!?!?!) Huckabee could show some character by requesting his buddies to drop the "hate" against Romney, and let McCain choose the VP he thinks will be for the best of the country. But....is Huckabee really looking out for the good of the country....or the good of himself? I was a Romney supporter, but haven't thought much on the VP. But I do know I have little respect for the "no mitt vp" group of evangelicals...and their Huckabee friend!
If People knew more about Mitt Romney, his morals, his character and his religion and how he lives it to the fullest, they would have no doubts about him being the vice-president or the president. Not only that, he is smart on money management and how to get this country out of the financial mess it is in.
Wait, Obama can't budget his money? Are you sure you don't mean Romney, who spent $45 million of his OWN money and still managed to lose the nomination? Obama has raked in plenty of money in fundraising and didn't have to borrow money from himself to run his own campaign. As these campaigns are the only major political entities that any of these candidates have ever run, this should probably be an important consideration.
Having said that, Mitt makes sense as a VP if the Democrats are still divided enough that his net negative impression (elitism, religion, etc.) can be offset by his perceived economic know-how. I still see McCain going with someone a bit more electable like Charlie Crist.
Mitt Romney will be my running mate you heard it here first
Im voting for Romney for President whether he is running or not running. Why aren't we organized?
McCain is an old man, slow of thought and mean spirited. Do you honestly want him near the button in the case called the football? Besides he sounds more like a Democrat.
Huckabee believes the end is near. Do you want him near the button in the case called the football? Based upon Huckabee's conduct and statements, I would say his organization promotes hate. Somewhat like Obama's organization.
Romney continues to promote democratic principles based upon honest reporting of facts, vision directed plans, and integrity for the Republican values as he continues to support McCain.

I really hope that John McCain has the vision of being President with Mitt Romney as his Vice President; It is a win-win situation; McCain needs Mitt in order that conservatives feel better when giving him their vote in November; he is actively campaigning for the democratic votes; with Mitt on the ticket, the conservatives will jump on his wagon and vote for them in Nov 08 believing that it will be for the benefit of this nation. I really believe that Mitt is his winning choice.
The current state of affairs in the nation reflects the usual low-expectation politics: dialogue, discourse, pronounce, pontificate, promise, orate, and grand stand. For a politician to actually DO what they said they would leaves established punditry befuddled, stupefied, and suspicious. Their cynical minds can’t process the truth that Romney is acting on core convictions, not posturing or personal aggrandizement!
If ever there were evidence that Romney is not an inside Washingtonian or a career politician, this is it! Mitt’s life has been and is filled with “producing.” Romney is the definition of doing, accomplishing, battling, achieving, incentivizing, motivating, proceeding, stimulating, engaging, promoting, working, and executing.
Romney is action. Mitt is a VERB. We need Romney on the Republican ticket. Let’s “mitt” this thing done!
I think our country will be in a mell of a hess if Mitt Romney doesn't come to the rescue with his expertise and high moral character. He knows how to get things done. And he is the only one it seems who is helping the Republican party of the drop outs. I'm voting for Mitt, even if it is a write-in!
He understands choice and accountability, a very responsible person indeed!
Mitt Romney has a very sound judgment among all the candidates (including presidential candidates).
